Spend within your means

If you can't afford it at the moment, wait until you have enough money to buy it.

Waiting is better than being buried in debt.

I just read one of the recent articles in NB on fans getting loans just to buy gifts for celebrities.

Until now, I still can't grasp K-fan culture.

How they turned buying gifts into a competition...

How it is alright with them to work two jobs to pay their loans and debts just because of these expensive gifts...

It is like... they are competing for the idol's affection or attention.

But celebrities who ask for these gifts or give a list of gifts to their fans are much worse.

How can they ask their fans, who are mostly students, for gifts that they can afford?

Asking them for gifts to give their parents...

It is just wrong.

I am glad that there are still celebrities like SHINee who return the gifts or GD, Yoseob, Siwon, among many others, who prefer gifts in the form of donations to charities.

Here in AFF, we also have a currency. It's the karma.

Spend within your means.

I think the gifts for parents is exclusively a Korean thing, because I know when birthdays come around, many fanclubs end up getting presents for the member's family members as well, even though it's not their parents/siblings birthdays.

I know Infinite tells their fans to donate to charities and stuff as well.

But really, these idols would be perfectly fine with a couple trinkets and letters instead of a huge amount of gifts... Unless you get the bad seeds that actually like to take advantage of people.

I can understand giving small gifts or even homemade ones, but things like computers, cars, etc... seems like too much. Especially when you have fans that give multiple big gifts... Like what idol would need 5 laptops, unless they were giving it to charity. (Not going to lie, but if I was an idol and people gave me too many gifts, I would just give it to charity.)

I also heard that some fanclubs ask their members for donations and expect people to donate big bucks, especially if you're an older member and most likely have a steady job. Like a student could get away with donating 20 dollars while the person who works full time at a coffee shop that's like 25 has to pay 100 dollars instead... That's a bit messed up. I mean, yeah they have money, but it's like their expected to give ten times more money just because they have a job, even if it's not the best paid one.

Sadly, a couple of idols do that or they tweet about it a thousand times to get fans to realize they really want it. I know for sure that Soohyun from U-Kiss did it because fans got one of the other members this limited edition game and he wanted one too, but as soon as a fan said they would get the non-limited edition game, he complained... Eventually he got the game he wanted... Wasn't too happy when I heard that, especially since U-Kiss has some decent music and deserves to be recognized. But when they do things like that, I don't really like that.

I can't remember this particular actors name but I always remembers what he said to a particular fan.
That fan had bought him an expensive branded tie. When she tried to give it to him, he rejected and asked her," have you ever given your father something like this? He raised you and deserves it unlike me."
