Thank To. . .

You know, I've always been kind of pissed at the people who can't write. Like, I'm sure that's going to sound mean, but literally, how hard are capitals and periods? AND THERE'S FREAKING SPELL CHECK TOO! Technology makes it so easy to make an average story and for people to awe at it, even if it's not even remotely good.

I can put up with terrible plot lines. Everyone hates Mary Sues, the oppar fanfics, the OMO!!1! i'M LIVING WITH A vAMpIRE!!! aND THEY'RE MY HUSBANDS?//?/?

Go away, guys, no one likes you.

But I suppose for struggling writers, they're the best thing that ever happened. Look! A story that pretty much writes itself! Who doesn't want that?

And besides, everyone actually secretly likes them. Secretly, then we make fun of them.

I used to part of that group of writers that would go around and just gossip about how terrible some stories are, like, how could they write such crap?

But then I kind of thought. Whenever I read these stories, I can't help but think, "Wow, this compared to Clandestine," or even "Wow, this author is terrible with her words, not like the author of Touch of Fear." I even compare their sense of humor, saying, "She's trying to hard. The person who wrote ExoGeneration + Facebook=?! doesn't write like this."

So these writers, with their terrible grammar and weirdly boring fonts and pathetic story lines, actually set the standard. These amazing authors, they are popular and amazing and incredible because of the fact that they are so much better than the other fanfics on this site. If the Mary Sues weren't here, all the other layered characters become the norm, so we have no marvelous people in our lives.

So, basically... Stop making fun of the people who might not be the best writers but still want to share their stories, ideas and dreams with you. It's okay if you don't read their work, but there's no need to hate it. Otherwise, you'll be finding yourself bored with all the fanfics that are left here when the bad ones go.

The best part of a good fanfiction, in my opinion, is the feeling you get when you find it. Triumphant, proud, and a little bit humbled. It's beautiful. Amond the rocks, there is always a gem. But there's nothing wrong with rocks, ever.

I do find it upsetting that other people start to copy others.

Wow, I really agree with this. I write on other sites as well and I also blogged about this problem on one of them, haha. But I agree with your points, although before I started writing I was of course just a reader, looking and critiquing at fanfics, like "ah, this one could've made the character a bit more like this" and "Hmm, I would've worded that better" and it got a little frustrating but then I realized, hey I have a lot of ideas and I've learned a bit from reading all these so why not write them down and begin as an author? It's a bit embarrassing because my stories aren't much to awe at, but the point is, in my opinion, writers should cradle their works and send them out in pure perfection instead of riddled with mistakes. Otherwise, I guess instead of just starting off as a reader, people like to engorge themselves right into writing. lol, tldr; I agree for the most part.

It's kind of frustrating, finding a fic that I actually like to read; but whenever I find one- or someone recommends something to me; it's the best thing ever.

Also, a lot of people start copying others when they start writing- because they don't really know what they're doing. It's a process and one day, they'll break free from the cliche stuff.

♥ Thanks for the compliment - I almost fell from my chair lol
