Kyung Joo is known around the village by just Joo. This is probably because she went through a big change at some point in her life, she was no longer the fun-loving Kyung Joo that had once ran around the vilage with a happy smile on her face but changed to a more quiet and secretive Joo. She now walks around the village with an expressionless face, she's independent and prefers to be alone most of the time, she thinks if she trusts someone there's always a chance of them dissapointing her and breaking her trust. 

She's usually quiet and stays in the background, especially during gatherings, yet everyone still notices her because she normally has this smirk on her face, showcasing to everyone how stupid she thinks the other girls are when all they care about are boys and make-up. However, when she does speak, it's even worse than her just sitting in the background looking on people and judging them. If she strongly disagrees with someones point, she'll speak up and won't back down until she's won the arguement. When she puts her mind to something, she'll become determined and won't give up half way. Her words can come off as sarcastic, blunt and insensitive, but that's only because she hates beating around the bush and sometimes she feels a little guilty for making them feel as if she was rude on purpose, it just comes out without warning. 

On those rare occasions when she doesn't hate everything, you might see her smiling. Her smile is rare, but it's not non-existent. Her smiles and laughs are usually for only a brief second, but it's genuine and sweet. There was once a time when she walked around with that smile instead of her current expressionless face, and people wish she would come back. She hates those moments. Even she knows her heart won't heal that quickly and she probably won't be the same ever again, but that doesn't mean she's unstatisfied by who she is now. She prefers to be alone now unlike when she used to always be surrounded by friends, faking her smiles and pretending to agree on their opinions, now she has the courage to stand up to them and tell them they're wrong. She used to be totally dependent on her parents and friends and could barely do anything without someone by her side, now she doesn't need anyone and she's happier this way. background : 

Joo was born into a happy family. She was loved everywhere for her beautiful eye-smile and pampered heavily by her parents. Until her cousin was born and moved to her house. Growing up, she was always compared to her. "Soo Yeon this. Soo Yeon that." She hated it and she grew to hate her too. They were only two years apart in age yet everyone switched their attention from her to her cousin. She wouldn't really have care, if it hadn't been for her cousin's facade. Whenever Soo Yeon was around adults, she would always cause trouble and put the blame on Joo Hyun while she acted innocent and sweet. But when they were alone, Soo Yeon would bully her soft-hearted, sensitive older cousin. She would talk about how much better she was and how she always had the support of adults while everyone though Joo Hyun was a trouble maker. Despite her bright eye-smile, adults prefered Soo Yeon over her for a reason purely because they were biased. Then one night, her life took a huge turn. There was suddenly a huge fire on their house and everyone managed to escape, apart from Soo Yeon and Joo's grandmother. They used to be inseperable. Her grandmother was Chinese and Joo learnt the language because of her, she called her 'nainai' and they only talked to each other in Chinese, so no one else would know what they were talking about. She was the only one who loved Joo more than Soo Yeon and supported her no matter what she did. On her 10th birthday, her grandmother gave her a duck necklace which she never took off, even to this day. After she and Soo Yeon died, everyone started suspecting that Joo set that house on fire on purpose, because of her jealousy for her cousin. Everyone started outcasting her, including her own parent and they wouldn't even listen to her protest. Why would she want to even risk killing her own grandmother? Joo's grades dropped drastically and though she spent some nights crying, she became stronger and talked less. No matter how hard she tried, her parents wouldn't show her the same warmth they used to; everyone thought she was a killer. It was like they'd given up on her. She could take the disappointments anymore, she didn't want to disappoint anyone either. No one believed her, no one would even give her a chance. She became quieter and kept herself to herself; not able to trust anyone anymore. She could only trust one person -her best friend- but not fully. After that, there was more disappointment, more broken trusts and she wasn't the same person she was before; naive and innocent, she knew the cruel ways of the world now. She knew that people are biased and if they thought something they'll keep thinking it, and not even give that person a chance to explain. She didn't trust anyone. Sometimes she found herself wishing that if time could go back she would stay innocent and not care about jealousy. She wished she still as innocent and pure as she was when she was a child; that way she could carry on thinking that everyone in the world was kind.

She wakes up to a cold family atmosphere, it's ok because she doesn't care anymore. She goes to school and people give her stares that basically say 'we're judging you' but she doesn't care because she does it back. After school, she either goes to her job in town or down to the lake straight away. In town she meets up with her only friend for a while then before going to work, after it finishes she goes to the lake. No matter what she always goes, if she doesn't she won't be able to sleep. At the lake she'll probably start thinking about something, very deeply and maybe even start daydreaming or finish her work. She usually goes back home at 11-12 pm, unafraid of what could be lurking in the dark; she's confident she can beat anyone who tries to harm her. Then she goes to sleep, without a word to her parents.

She remembered every little detail when her grandmother told her about when she was a dragon tamer, but it's easier said than done. She always imagined how fun it would be to be a dragon tamer, especially when you're flying, but now she knows it's harder. She didn't even know where to start! But she sat down for a second and worked it out. When Joo's training Sandeul, she does it carefully and think about training. She'd always been smart -until her grandmother died- her grades had always been good and envied by people, even though her grades started to drop after her grandmother's death it doesn't mean she lost her knowledge. Most of the time while she's thinking about what to do next, Sandeul would come up to her and start trying to distract her, and then she starts yelling at him because She'd always been smart -until her grandmother died- her grades had always been good and envied by people, even though her grades started to drop after her grandmother's death it doesn't mean she lost her knowledge. 

Sandeul listens to her well and is obedient...most of the time. The other times when he doesn't want to do something she's told him to he'll become stubborn and since Joo Hyun is stubborn too, they'll both have an arguement about it. There are times when she's wrong and has pushed him to his limits, Joo Hyun will often feel guilty after he's had a tantrum and wonder what to do. She's never been the type of person who says 'thank you' or 'sorry' easily, seeing as she hardly has anyone who helps her. Usually, she'll leave the situation without apologizing, but when it comes to her dragon, she'll usualy go up to him and just sit by his side. She won't say anything until the air around them gets more awkward, she'll apologize quickly and get up, ready to walk away, but this time Sandeul will be bouncing happily beside her.

When Sandeul actually listens to her, he'll try his hardest to do the job well; only so he can be showered with praised by his owner late. Which doesn't happen. Joo can always find something wrong, even if it's the most little thing and then she starts thinking again on how to do it better. Sandeul sees how worked up she gets on his kind of thing and tries to make taming him easier by listening to her. 

weaknesses :

When Sandeul doesn't want to do something or is being stubborn or slow, Joo will lose her patience and like always start yelling at him. He of course doesn't care, he's quite amused when she loses her cool and makes her even more annoyed by laughing at her.

Even if there is the littlest detail wrong with what they've done, she'll focus on it and they'll keep re-doing it until it's perfect, which can sometimes end up in both the dragon and tamer becoming tired.

status :  The brains

when did you start? :  She only became a tamer on her 20th birthday and it's only been about 8-9 months. 

how did you feel? : She couldn't believe it. She thought he'd made some kind of mistake. She was an outcast in the village. An arsonist. She figured maybe he felt sorry for her, or it could have just been because her grandmother was his first tamer. Then she felt a little unsure of herself, she didn't know if she was ready to do this. Being in a contract with a dragon means you share a strong, close bond. She doesn't trust people easily. How does she know she won't get hurt? She knows how close her grandmother was with Sandeul and wondered how she would let her guard down enough to become that close as well.

what do you know about your preceeders? :  

She knows her grandmother was Sandeul's past trainer and that she had a strong bond with him. They were extremely close and almost inseperable; like each other's other half. She also knows that the earth dragon went to a 5th awakening and ended up killing his tamer. 

who do you best get along with? :  Her dragon. 

why? :  He understands her and accepts her. Everyone else turned their back on her for something she didn't even do, she knows pretty well that he would've known the rumors too, but he still chose her as his tamer. When they're together she can just be herself, maybe even let out some of her inner feelings. She knows he doesn't judge her like everyone else does and actually takes the time to get to know her and she loosens up around him.

how do you treat others? :  Everyone basically outcasts her or is scared of her because of the whole 'arson' situation, besides Bora (wood dragon trainer) there's no one she really talks to. Sometimes the rare occasion comes when she has to interact with another student and she'll try to hold back and be a little nicer than usual, otherwise she doesn't care what they do or what they think of her.

how do they treat you? :  They think she's scary at first, especially the way her face is either expressionless or has this smirk on it, but as they get to know her they know she's not as bad as the rumors say. If she's nice to them they'll be nice to her; simple as.

who was his tamer before? : 

Sandeul's first trainer was Joo's grandmother, Yuhan. They were practically inseperable. Sandeul had once wanted to keep all the secrets of humanity to himself, because he didn't like humans very much, he thought that all they did was kill and ruin the beautiful planet they lived on. Until he met Yuhan. She was a simple girl who appreciated nature. The people around her were pessimistic and rude but she was like a rose surrounded by thorns. She was raised to always smile gently and to be kind to whoever she meets. That was when Sandeul realised that not all humans are bad, so he made a contract with her. 

Though she was kinder than most other humans would have been, she was sensitive and much too soft-hearted to be suited as a dragon trainer, however Sandeul didn't want to give up on her. He became closer to her and they became inseperable. Everywhere she went, he went and there would never be a second when they weren't together. People would be jealous of their strong bond. Yuhan had been a fairly decent tamer but hadn't had the heart to make him do anything which could result in him getting hurt.

how did you met? : Even after Yuhan married and became older, he watched over her and her family tenderly, waiting for the right person to chose to be his next tamer. He wanted someone who was kind like her, but didn't want her to have a weak heart seeing as it got in the way of his training. Yuhan's child (Joo's mother) was one of his possible choices but she was very bad at concentrating and was too girly and weak. Then he set his eyes on Yuhan's grandaughter, Joo Hyun. He watched as she grew up, to the comparisons and broken trust. He saw her character taking shape into a quiet, independent person who isolated herself from society and watched as she became falsley acused of arson. He was with her as she went through so many hardship, especially when  Yuhan died -they both grieved- and she became an outcast. When she got older, she dealt with the acusing stares and started acting like she didn't care and masking her feelings. 

Being a dragon of water, it was obvious he too would dwell near the lake that Joo went to everyday and he'd see her sit by herself, as if she was content and sometimes he would hear her talk to herself about how she didn't care that people gave her those accusing looks. 

On her 20th birthday, there was a big party -filled with half hearted people- and she slipped away in the middle of it. She came back to the lake and started talking to herself. 

"Idiots...they think I wouldn't notice...They obviously don't care about celebrating...They're probably wondering how it would be if I died instead and if Soo Yeon was still alive. If I'd died instead would they be missing me and thinking of Soo Yeon as a arsonist...doubt it..." 

Sandeul saw how hurt and sad she sounded, which was different from her usual attitude and felt like he needed to protect her, which is why he offered her his pearl. 

how do you act around each other? : 

She feels like she can be herself with him and he doesn't hold back either.  He'll often follow her when they're not training and a lot and she'll most likely yell at him. He isn't scared or intimidated by her shouting, instead he laughs at her angry face. He likes teasing her and sometimes -if she doesn't kill him first- he manages to do light skin ship with her, triggering an unexpectedly shy reaction, which of course only makes him want to do it again. They become unexpectedly close and sometimes miss each others presence when they're not together. Though Sandeul is playful when he's with her, he understands when there's something bothering her just by looking at her face and always tries to make her open up to him, but she's reluctant. He is gentle and kind and Joo understands that he doesn't judge her, unlke everyone else. 

how does he act if he is seperated from you? :  He'll go crazy. They're usually together all the time, but on some days when they're not he'll wait at the lake for her. When she's even 5 minutes late for their meeting time, he'll start getting worried, but try to keep calm and leave it for another 5 minutes. If she still doesn't come back he'll lose all his self-control and start running around and yelling. He won't try to hide it. He might even go into town and search for her!

humans :  Before humans started to peacfully co-exsit with dragons, they thought dragons were evil and dangerous and they wanted to get rid of them. And dragons also thought of humans as evil since they were distrupting the natural beauty of the Earth. They shared the information with the humans so that they wouldn't ruin the Earth anymore and try to kill the dragons. 

secrets :  He thinks of it as a wonderful gift. He's trusted enough to safegaurd important secrets and feels proud of himself; like there's purpose for his life. He's waiting until he finds someone who he trust and knows will only use the knowledge for benificial and good things. 

mothering :  His first trainer was a soft-hearted person who didn't want to do anything that would risk hurting him and she was very caring and motherlike. She always wanted to help and protect vunerable people, which probably rubbed off on him. 

love :  Humans were clever. They had knowledge too, but they didn't really know what to do with it. The dragons saw how vunerable they could be when the world first started, and they wanted to protect them and keep them from harm. After all misunderstandings were fixed between them, they both formed strong bonds with each other. 

his tainted :  Disbelief. They all thought it was some kind of stupid trick. They thought she wasn't deserving enough of the dragons contract, but they knew they couldn't change it. Jessica reacted the worst. She was rich, popular and lots of the elders liked her and everyone expected her to become a tamer, not Joo. Never in a million years would anyone have thought Joo would become a dragon tamer. Some even thought that Sandeul only chose her because his first tamer was her grandmother.

Sandeul is completely loyal to Joo. He goes with her everywhere -even if it's just to annoy her- and barely leaves her alone. He never wants to seperate from her, just in case something happens to her. He wants to protect her from anything bad that could happen. When they're walking together, she gets these hate-filled looks from nearly everyone but he's there to glare right back while Joo pretends she doesn't see them. 

When they're training, he tries his best not to disappoint her, who is a perfectionist. He generally listens well and puts in his all because he wants to impress her, but if there is something he knows he can't do just yet -which could lead to disappointing her- he'll refuse to do it. He'll get stubborn and just sit on the ground with a 'I'm not doing it' look, but since they can both be really stubborn it makes it even worse. Neither of them are going to back down easily.
