She's Back
Just wanted to say 'I'm back', guys. So, life has been the usual except that I enjoyed my June
break so much that I wished I could still be in Taiwan! I've been back a few days ago, and was
busy writing some sort of a report to be submitted. Throughout my week over there, I went to
their university to listen to their lectures and talks. Initially, I thought nothing was different, and
was kind of nonchalant about it. Students attend lessons, take exams, as usual. But there's just
something different about them. Surprisingly, I was inspired by what the lecturers told us during
a small group discussion.
“Just because you fail once doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything.” - Marilyn Monroe
This is probably my greatest take away from the whole exchange programme. Being in a sports
team, holding a leadership position, I believe sportsmanship is as important (if not more important)
than the outcome of winning and victory. However, as ironical as it may seem, I absolutely hate
losing. The taste of failure is just sour, pungent, and unknowingly bitter. It makes me cringe
everytime I think of my own failure. I found failure humiliating and disgraceful.
As I was sharing about my thoughts, one of their students told me - “Failure is the condiment that
gives success its flavor.” I smiled and nodded my head. It's true, really. One who have savoured the
real success would realise it's a mixture of effort, hard work and most importantly, failures. It's not
exactly sweet, but bitter-sweet. Therefore, one should have no fear of failure because if you ever fell
down, you don't cry. You stand up and one day, you'd laugh about your fall. You just got to keep on
trying, keep on running forward, until something amazing comes along the way.
And so, I decided to end off this post with one of favourite quotes.
“Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald
