A questions for writers, and what do readers think?

I have a question to all authors who write fanfics.  I really want to know, when you write fanfics, who do you write them for? For the sake of you have a passion in writting fan fictions and like to share you're creativity, or do you write for fame?

There are authors who write fantastic stories, I have to admit. Fantastic plot, amazing grammar and all, but the passion when as a reader, I don't feel anything they write. And yes, including famous stories and famous authors. I will comment when my personal reader opinion thinks they can need some help to improve. There are some authors who lacks in terms of grammar and has betas to help them. That's great, slowly they begin to improve and need no betas. But there are some, who obviously are still lacking in some terms, yet when they ask for comments "any comments will do", they get angry at the comments. Or, "I won't update if there is no comment". I don't understand so many authors here. Isn't this a community that we can help each other to grow with our passion - Stories about our favourite celebrities - and share them? Or is it about being " a famous fan of which group" ?

I love reading fanfictions, I don't mind "I'll be on hiatus" yada yada yada. You have your own life, it's okay to be away from AFF. But when "no comment = no updates" or "until I have this amount of subscribers, I won't write", it makes me think that only writers have rights, where as readers aren't important.

after reading http://www.asianfanfics.com/blog/view/555473,  I come to realise that readers are so under estimated. With those "no comments = no updates" I start to realise I dot read their stories anymore because it seem that they write for fame, not for their own pleasure. I love to read fics that showcases the authors individual characteristics and personalities. There is a difference in the atmosphere of the story. Idk ...

I never force my readers to comment. They are free to do what they want. I don't really care if they are just silent readers or they subbed it for fun, or they became my friends but never talk to me just because they wanted to read my friend lock fanfics. I have lots of fictions with lots of viewers, lots of subbers but only a few comments. It really did not affect me. I write for the sack that I want to write and want to share my creativity.
I even have a fiction which I continued from an author who dropped the fic. People compared and I admit that I was not as good as the original author and goes on with my life. I can say that I'm improved from all these writing and reading.
However, I do found out there are some authors who really write fictions for fame and for karma points. It is so frustrating when after you read their fictions, you found out that their writing was so lame, lack of interest and full of grammatical mistakes.
Well, my English is not that great for English is not my native language but at least I do re-read and check before I post it up. Of course sometimes I did mistake but I will correct it right after if someone do comment on my mistakes and I send them my appreciation.
I do agree with you about the no comment = no update thing. It is really annoying.

To be honest, I write stories for myself because I like to imagine different bands in scenarios so I want to read what it'd be like, I put it on aff so others can read if they share the same mind as me. Authors who say they won't update because of no subs or who try to gain the most subs by using ridiculous methods really annoy me. I can't read those types stories. So yeah, I agree completely with you.

Writing is my passion that’s why I do write stories who happens to be running on my mind whenever I have good moods, even on my emotional states that result to have an angst side of the stories sometimes.
Being famous isn’t really an issue for me as long as I share my stories and comments are a plus. Comments serves as a mood booster to all the authors because through the comments you’ll know how the readers respond to your stories, whether they like it, hate the plot, hate the characters or so on. I love how the readers would get react to every scene of the stories or get carried away by the characters but that’s all. Comments are optional for readers as I am a reader myself. You shouldn’t force them to leave any comment, as it’s really their option to leave some or not. Some authors tend to do that and its really shame that readers are force to leave comments or else they’ll lock their stories.
We should respect their rights since AFF is a free site where in you can share your stories, ideas and all without having thoughts of paying a penny on it. We would love to received comments to every updates but I would never dare to demand the readers / subscribers to leave comments or else no update. That’s really a NO NO to me.

Cont- but if u ask if whom do i write? For myself, for readers or for the fame? Its always a little of both. And most for myself and my friends.

I'm a writer and less of a reader. I only follow 5 stories at a time because im so busy. I dont give comments as much but when i do, i mke sure they're longass comments. I usually just read some of my friends'. But its not me being picky, it's me being busy.

And about writing, ive always wanted to write since i learned to read HARRY POTTER series. Lol jk rowling fanatic here. Brfore writing exo, i started writing Eunhae and i was thrilled tht some people reads my stuffs. I begun to write for myself because i love writing, like my escape. Then my fics got popular and my previous nme as well, and to tell u honestly, fame doesnt do good. The more pople expect from u the more ur muse drops. I dun know, maybe i want to write for myself but knowing a lot of readers reading feels like my want is directed to pleasing readers anymore. I get pressured and emotional. So if i start lowkey on stories and only few response, im torn being happy and some is like PRIDE. like i can make this big but fail bcause i made myself write for fame. I started to looking forward for comments and fell so down if i dun get any. Funny becauze i wasnt use to be like that. Fame changes writers. Writing is also very stressful if readers demand so much. One of the reasons why i dropped writing for my previous fandom.
And then i started writing for exo WITH different name. The first half of last year feels nice because i gain subs one by one... im the happiest but when my story got a bit of subs more than 1k felt like history repeated itself. Im loosing my muse again. Its like, my muse obly goes to a challenge that i can make this big with a completely new name and from the very bottom again.

But something that doesnt fade is my love in writing. Evn though it takes me time and enough push to open word and write aain, i still njot writing. Contrary to what i feel in general, i love my readers deep inside and value them. I love playing games wih their mind with my plot. Bto whom i write

Looks like a lot have been pondering about this lately. Another blogger asked if being a silent reader is good or bad. And then there was this author who demanded her silent readers to drop a comment.

I am both reader and writer. That is why I appreciate stories I read because I know how hard it is to write. It starts with the writer, but eventually, it ends with both writer and reader.

We have to like the story we plan to write first. Then it takes motivation and discipline to execute these ideas and finish the story.

Writers may find motivation in the form of comments because they serve as indicators that the story has readers. What use is a story without a reader? I have original stories here without subbies and comments and that is okay. At least I know that no one is interested in them.

If I only want to entertain myself, I could always keep my stories in Word, which I have. When I publish them here, I do so with the hope that someone would find value in them. And when someone subscribes, I am happy. But after posting chapters, and not hearing from them, I begin to wonder if they are still reading.

Silence can easily mean that they don't like the story and have stopped reading or they don't care what the writer will do the story and just watch quietly what happens. Silence leaves writers in a state of confusion, which can be frustrating.

AFF wasn't this quiet in 2010-2011. I noticed the change after the crash in March 2012. It is like suddenly the site is crowded, you suddenly have lots of subbies in your new fics but barely anyone comments that you would wonder if you are being trolled.

But even so, writers don't have the right to demand anything from the readers. If they don't want to comment, then it is their right. Just remember that some writers lose interest in a story quickly, especially when stories lose the spark or writer sees the ending. And that the only reason she would finish it is because of the readers.

But I don't see stuff like this a lot, because the tags I frequent are filled with people that write because they like writing and like the small community that is made from it. I mean, when someone writes Chen or rare pairing fics, only a small amount of people write them, so a community is born between them rather easily, each author commenting on each other's fics. But tags that have a lot of writers don't get to feel that brother/sisterhood that's created as easily as those who like lesser known fandoms, band members, or OTPs.

Well, this may go for me, but writing's a hobby of mine that keeps me sane and less stressed. I physically like writing because it calms me and lets me use my imagination relatively easily. I like being able to plot, create characters, and write what I'm writing. If I didn't, then I wouldn't put half as much effort into what I write. I mean, I literally spend a lot more time plotting and writing than I do looking extensively over my chapters. I have decent grammar, but what really gets me going is being able to write and have fun with what I'm writing, rather than making everything sound perfect.

However, as a writer, I enjoy comments, crave them sometimes too, because all writers like feedback. I like hearing what others think of my writing, it makes me feel good and proud at what I accomplished or let me learn things about my writing I may have not realized or missed. In fact, I rather people comment on my stories, rather than just subscribe and never tell me anything, because that just tells me they like my story enough to subscribe, but doesn't tell my what they actually like about my story. Comments are a way for writers and readers to get to know each other, so I think it's a great thing to get comments.

However, subscriptions and comments shouldn't be upheld to a level where they mean everything when it comes to someone's updating schedule. To me, when people start doing that, it either means that the person isn't dedicated to finishing their story unless they have so many people commenting or the person does not understand how great comments are and how they should be looked at like a gift, rather than a something that should be handed over to them.

Well as a writer... not really a real one but you know what i mean... i think i started to write because i got inspired by so many stories out their which i read as a reader... anyway... i started just because i had a story to tell... i wanted to write what i couldn't find in AFF or any other website... readers' comments are important to the writer... it motivates them to write to interactive readers... that's the beauty of updating online... i love comments... i would be very pleased to hear what people think... yes sometime i get upset when i got bad comments but then i think... what can i do to improve... my writing style, grammar and even plot... however, i never stopped updating because i got no comments... its just gets frustrating and end up not writing anything to update... i'm not a famous writer but i have my share of readers who would comment in every chapter i write which makes me update more... even give them a double update... however, i have 80% of my readers who do not comment but still i appreciate their presence and readings for my story...
When i was a reader i didn't really understand... but now i do... because i am in the other writers' shoes...
Anyhow, hope you're satisfied with that much...
Wow i wrote too much... i think ;)

Cause the feeling when after u typing for hours n they give u the feedback is awesome...its really make my work is worth it..

Beside, comments help me to improve my writing skills... n I love to communicating with readers. Is fun!

But so far..
I never threatened my readers like that.. I think its kind'a silly

If I cant hold my yunjae feels anymore n I have a chance to write, I will updating even though I dont get many sub or comments
