I got this from a blog.

I think K-pop fans have a false impression of what Korea is like

Ever since I got into k-pop I’ve heard the whole “i liek korean pop bcuz it’s not all about and partying like american pop lolzzz” routine. Yes, popular Korean music is considerably more conservative than American pop. Yes, many aspects of Korean society are more conservative than the west.

But k-pop fans need to remember that korean pop culture (especially idol culture and dramas) =/= korean life. Just like how american tv shows and movies =/= american life.

K-pop fans seem to have this idea that Korea is this docile little land full of innocent people who never have dirty thoughts and are total prudes who have never even heard of drugs or . When Cripi Crunch’s video for “Thumbs Up” came out there were comments like “omg they’re copying American artists!!! stop trying to be rauncy like Americans!”

LOL, if you think korean hip-hop/nightclubs aren’t as , y, and sweaty as any American club you’re poorly mistaken. What, do k-pop fans think that young koreans don’t go out clubbing and that when they do, they slow dance like awkward middle schoolers?

Get it through your heads. People have in Korea, do drugs, get blind drunk, commit crimes, and all other kinds of . Life in Korea isn’t a sappy drama filled with pretty people in designer clothing. Watch more Korean films instead of just dramas. And for god’s sake, stop buying into the conservative innocent image of south korea. That’s what the ridiculous Ministry of Gender Equality wants you to think with all their bans on pop songs.

what I have to say.

Yep, actually, I never doubted that thing. My boyfriend (he's half Korean and grew up half of his life there before moving to the States, then to the Phils) actually told me about stuff going on in that country. (He's one dirty himself, hahahaha!)

We're actually going to KR next week (YES! MY MOM AGREED!) and he told me he'd take me to music shows, but won't forget to take me to clubs and see Korea's nightlife. He told me the clubs there are really something.

He even told me that the first time he entered a club, the first thing he saw were couples making out and trying to get laid. So...really, Korea's not perfect.

Not everything we see in dramas are what it seems. You might want to check out movies that aren't starred by famous actors/actresses/idols. One favorite is Cheaters. Yeah, it's rated and all. Haha. But the twists are really funny. My boyfriend likes to watch it again and again because he gets or so he says. Hahaha.

So, you see, Korea isn't perfect. And so are your biases.
