Chaemin was born in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea on December 25, 1997. She was raised in a simple family consisting of father, mother, and herself. Her father is a businessman who is prioritizing his family, while her mother is a housewife who is good at cooking.
When she was around 7, her family moved to Vancouver, Canada because her father has investments there. Chaemin's parents decided to open a restaurant, while her father still worked in a company. Their restaurant became quite famous shortly thereafter. Little Chaemin had learned about the ways to continue her parents' bussiness, but one day, she found her own dream. To become an idol.
When she was around 7, her family moved to Vancouver, Canada because her father has investments there. Chaemin's parents decided to open a restaurant, while her father still worked in a company. She practiced her vocal, dance and rap ability secretly from the video she downloaded. Actually, she didn't let her parents know about it. But, when she was 12, somehow her mother knew about her secret. She persuade Chaemin to chase her dream, but Chaemin refused it because she knew that to become an idol is pretty difficult. But unexpectedly, her mother enrolled Chaemin's name in an audition for idol in Korea. She forced Chaemin to attend it and chase her own dream. Finally, Chaemin agreed and flew back to Korea with her mother to attend that audition.
