What's up with all these roleplays?

The title of this blog already explains my question.

Seriously, what the heck?

I mean I'm not trying to be rude or hate on anyone because I totally understand that we all have different tastes and we all see things differently... but I'm trying to understand what's the point of roleplaying and what do you guys have from it, what do you gain with it and how does it make you happy? Or is it just to take away the boredom or something? Can someone please enlighten me?

Me as a roleplayer, finds roleplays addicting sometimes. But it's like a result of boredom, yes, boredom. I think some of them only makes these roleplays to know someone new, or to just act like their favorite idols. Actually, there's nothing bad. It's just that some of them are getting overboard, knowing each other personally.

Roleplays are sometimes fun but sometimes boring too because some of them are not really active. Even though you need to be active 3-4 times a week. The time zone is one of the major problems of a roleplay has. That's it.

But I think roleplays are made because some are bored or some wants to know someone new and make friends. Or just for fun. Or they just want to act like their favorite idols.
