Really long drawing process...(in other words, DIS TAKES SKILL OKAI)

Okay, so y'all remember that blog post I had with a fic idea about Jong Up in the woods? And I added a picture of my rendition of a certain someone?

WELL I FINISHED IT.

And I kinda wanted to show you my drawing process, since I took a buncha pictures to send my friend from school.

Just so we're clear, this picture is what I had in mind for Daehyun's appearance in an upcoming daejong fic. This piece of crap is not what I have in mind for future artwork, m'kay?

SO. Before I showcase my horrible process and drawings, some background info to get you started.

This picture was inspired by both a song and another picture (that is WAY better than mine by a long shot) of Daehyun, drawn by the amazing Yokogamasy:

Though my picture and this one have nothing in common, the black hands seemingly pulling Daehyun into the darkness instantly presented a picture in my brain, one that involved Daehyun being a demon. And at the time I was listening to Christina Aguilera's "Lotus" song, which gave me an idea for a story that fit well with this pic idea of a demon Daehyun. That's all I'll say in regards to the fic, but the thought of Daehyun being a demon was...interesting. So! I got to drawing the idea!

And here's the process:

Aaaand here's the awkward unfinished headshot, because I'm notorious for doing these when I draw. It's rare for me to do a full- or half-body drawing, but that changed with this one. I at anatomy, so I figured, hey, what better way to practice? Plus, I'm not using Photoshop--I'm using SAI.

My idea was to make Daehyun look more Asian because he's, y'know, Asian. So I stuck with the somewhat realistic eyes rather than the half closed ones you see when you read manga. As you can see, the prince's eyes hair is also unfinished and he's got one visible ear.

This was as far as I got for the first day, since I was doing this right before I had to go to bed. Anyway, onto the next one.

Day two consists of a finished hairstyle, which for once isn't shoulder length or longer; as well as an oddly drawn and highly not proportioned mouth, two weird looking arms, and what would turn into the back.

LOOK AT THAT SKINNY TORSO. Hehe, the third day I fixed the nose a bit and add two fangs, because I'd aimed for his mouth to be open in the finished product. I also added the collarbones and his chest, which are both incorrectly drawn and highly disproportionate. I told you earlier--I AT ANATOMY, therefore I had to use a lot of reference.

Now if you notice, near the rib area, I drew some odd-looking red marks...?

As I was drawing, I'd thought I'd add a body mark to distinguish the prince from his lower subjects. However, I didn't quite like the turnout, so it will unfortunately not be in the final drawing.

Simple additions, not quite finished. :)

New stance. Added some masculine definition in the abdomen and lower torso. I ALSO CHANGED THE MOUTH. Because the last one was hideous.

...

Deleted some of the rib area, but I added that in the final product by airbrushing it in. Other than that, nothing changed.

The final product of the sketch. Took about a week excluding the days I didn't draw.

...

Now THIS was the fun part.

I've always wanted Paint Tool SAI because I've seen that it has an unbeatable ink pen and amazing coloring tools, including the airbrush.

This is the cell shaded version of the picture, which I usually do when I color something. This was actually the first time I ever used a realistic style coloring method.

I didn't have any pictures of my lineart process, but here is the finished product. I was actually in the middle of coloring the finished product, and I accidentally colored some on the wrong layer. And the erasures on his hand are due to the fire I added in the final pic. ;) What do you think so far?

Here's the realistic style coloring method I used in the finished version. It's unfinished, but that's basically what I had in the fnal pic, which is NEXT!

FINISHED PRODUCT BEHBEH. This took about nine hours to complete, and I accidentally forgot to color in the middle area near his junk. LOL. owell.

So what do you think? Any questions, suggestions? Wanna know something about the pic?
