Exploring Daejeon

Yesterday was a holiday in Korea.  It was Indepence day.  Hence, my buddy and Korean roommates were gone.  Since only the foreign students were left in the dorm me and my friends decided to take matters to our hands.  We decided to explore and try going places with our very little Korean and English.

My Filipino friends Ally and Janine  wanted to eat out so we decided to look for a restaurant.  But all stores were closed and those that were opened were expensive ones so we wandered around Hannam to look for it.  Luckily, a family reastaurant was open.  We were the only customers and the owner doesn't know English very well so he talked to us in Korean.  Before going to Korea I thought that my Korean was good enough.  But no! I was wrong.  When I start to talk in Korean and ask them things they answer me in complicated Korean..So i decided to just use English and not cause any misunderstanding(they actually thought I was a Korean, I don't think I look like one tho)  Back to the story, so he just recommended something to us in which we just agreed to.  It was really tasty and the owner was very accomodating.  They also have a very cute kid SOOO CUTTEEEE..

After that we looked for a store which sells an adaptor because our voltage in the Philippines is different from Korea.  We went with our friend from Ecuador, Antonio.  We asked anyone we could find where we could buy it and they directed us to somewhere kinda far.  The ajussis and ajummas we asked don't speak or understand Englsh so our Korean were practiced but it was hard work. We went where we think we should, we were kinda lost and we lost hope because we walked too far already.  But no, the mishap was a success.  Finally on the last store we were able to buy it.  We can finally use our laptops. Hurray!! That's why I was able to update last time :DD

I missed my laptop so much~

And then last night a Kazakh student asked us for help because the washing machines in Korea were in Korean and are so fancy.  We helped them and talked to each other.  We learned some Russian and Kazakh words too while we wait for the laundry.  And then we decided to go out the next day. Which then led to an adventure. Again.

The next day we ate lunch at a nearby reastaurant with our Kazakh friends.  It ws kinda expensive T^T because we just ordered something and we cannot understand the owner.  T^T It was so sad.. But I think it's okay.

And then we went to Daejeon terminal to explore.  There we bought some clothing and gloves.  Ally asked an ajumma how much is a glove.  It was actually expensive it amounted to 48,000 won which is 48 dollars if converted.  She doesn't want to buy it but the ajumma became pushy.  We can't tell her that we don't want to buy it without being rude so Ally bought a pair which is 15.000 won. That is rather expensive because the other stores sell it only for 10,000 won.  We don't even know if we were being tricked or what.

We wanted to explore but we don't really know where to go.  We asked the information and they told us to ride a bus and then transfer to another bus.  the bus system in Korea is very organized and the buses were always on schedule.  We decided to go to the cultural arts museum.  We didn't know where to get off  T^T and we don't know how much we should pay.  And the drivers were ajussis who were not very understanding.  But we got by.  We just asked the passengers.  Luckily, the next bus driver was kind and helpful.  We got off safely :DD

The park was so big and full of people biking, skating, strolling, and playing around.  There were sculptures with funny titles like 'Telescope, Microscope', 'Short Sky Here and There' etc. It was nice though.  Inside the actual museum there was an exhibit.  The artist really looks like Ninoy Aquino :D  The main piece is named 'Fractal Turtleship'.  Well, it really looked like fractal turtleship though.  The piece was made of old TVs and appliaces and turtles and it looked like a turtle and a spaceship at the same time.  Each fractal, or appliace is different and has its own sense.  It was really interesting to look at :DD

After that we went to an arboretum. Imagine, we went to an arboretum in winter! There were of course nothing to see except trees with no leaves.Haha.  And it was really cold.  Today was particularly cold.We decided to go home even if it was just 6 pm because we were already freezing to death!! We waited for the bus but it really took too long so we just took a cab~

When we got to the dorm we felt like defroested chicken because we went out too long~ OTL

Nyaw.
