Interviewing your characters

Interviewing your characters:

Your characters need to have characteristics (that's why they are called “characters”, duh!)

They cannot just pop out somewhere and play a role in your story. They need to have purpose.

For example, Leila cannot just be Martha's best friend. Yes, I know what a best friend's role in real life.

They support you, they guide you, etc. But don't let this Leila to be just a best friend. She needs to move. She needs to add some spice in your story.

Making Leila the secret enemy of Martha is not surprising but if you need that idea, then add some twist.

But if you want Leila to be a forever loyal best friend of Martha, she still needs to have a role, (not necessary big or small) in your small. She's a character, not just some display!

Okay, for you to understand your characters, you have to ask the,. Of course, that means you have to ask yourself!

Questions to be asked.

Now imagine that Martha, (this is my main character name, deal with it) is sitting in front of you and you are interviewing her. As an interviewer, you have to know the smallest to the biggest details about Martha.

Martha”'s answers are just SUGGESTIONS.

  1. Where and when were you born? How old are you? (Her answer was: “January 5, 1987. That makes me 26 years old”)

  2. Where do/did you go to school? Tell me about your school and your experiences there. (“Since I have high grades, I was sent to Harvard. Pretty cool, right? My school was big that the first time I had been there, I thought I would get lost. Anyway, that's a history. The most memorable experience for me was, perhaps, when I met this arrogant and stupid guy, Markov)

  3. What is your job? Or what o you hope to be someday? You can answer both. (My job right now is a writer. I write for a fashion magazine. You might want to read it! I want to keep this job for the rest of my life. If it's that even possible.)

  4. Tell me about your family. (Oh, my family is just simple. My mother cooks our food every night and day. I think that's great. I have three younger siblings whom I love so much. They are still studying and I have to provide their educational funds. My father, well, let's not talk about him. |Martha hates her father. Let's leave it to her|)

  5. What do you dislike the most? (A lot. I dislike a lot. Mostly, it is about my personality. Sometimes, I can be too y and honest. I have a plan to change that. Someday, maybe. I hope.)

  6. What do you like the most? (Painting. I like painting. Don't ask) |Martha loves painting because Markov likes it too|

  7. What/How do you look like? Are you satisfied with the way you look? (Yes! I am! I have big green eyes, sharp nose, thin red lips, high cheekbones and heart-shaped face. I love how I look like. Why should not I?)

  8. What are your hobbies and habits? (One of my hobbies is to paint. I said that already. I also like watch movies. My habit? Well, I bite my lower lip especially whenever I am mad)

  9. What is your goal in your life? (Goal? Well, I have not decided yet. Maybe to be very successful. I also want to be the best among the best. Much better than Leila.)

There are many questions you could ask. You could ask about her favorite foods, what does her bedroom looks like, etc. Remember, for your readers to understand your characters, you must understand them first.
