It's pretty fun~ how to apply is slightly different for each rp, but basically what you do is fill in the form they ask you for (usually just send them the character you want, timezone, and any character-specific details ex. it's its a para rp you would tell them what your super power is). Some of them will be facebook or tumblr or twitter based so you would have to creat an account fo your character, but AFF made a website called Roleplay Republic that's basically the same as AFF except it's designed for rp's and instead of chapters you would have "rooms" and then you go to those rooms and rp. Also, you can join a lot of rp's and have different characters but you only need one user account on the website and you can keep up with all of your roleplays from there. that way, you dont have to worry about having 6 different facebook accounts or whatever, and you dont have to worry about getting SecChecked and locked out of your facebook :D You can pm me if you want to know more and want some good rp's to join~

you just make another account with your persons name on it and then friend the admins, make sure you friend the other people playing and then you just speak to eachother's walls and there admin will comr check out what you are doing now in then.
