What were your thoughts on the way here?
Niel: GQ is a men’s magazine, but aren’t we too childish for it? We need to look like men…
Changjo: That’s why we felt burdened
Ricky: But we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here… Haha actually we had all sorts of thoughts like wearing a suit, driving a car..
Leave those to your hyungs. People who are not fans might not know the members well, how do you think the general public addresses Teen Top?
Changjo: Just young idols? Younger brothers?
L.Joe: Because they may not know us well, there are times when they called us what they are conformable with, like Niel is the guy with big lips, I’m the guy with the unique hair colour, C.A.P is the guy who raps…
Changjo: It’s alright if they see us young kids because this is the only time of our lives we can be called that. I’ve often heard people saying “those were the good times”
L.Joe: Actually, I don’t really understand what is so good about now… Whether I’ll only share the sentiments when I grow older…
After going through everything in life, you’ll be most envious of the times now; especially since you guys are having lots of fun… What is different about Teen Top as compared to the other idols?
L.Joe: I think we look more cheerful on stage. We have the energy too.
C.A.P: Honestly, we’re cuter
Ricky: Shabang shabang (Shining brightly!)
Niel: Before NMPOY, Clap and Supa Luv were darker songs, so we don’t smile on stage. I think the current style suits as better
Changjo: Now since we’ve been given the title of the country’s younger boys, I think we need to explore even more
Chunji: We’re younger than other groups so you see the potential in us. As we get older, we can showcase more of us.
Have you had goosebumps about NMPOY’s cuteness?
Changjo: When I first heard the songs, the lyrics were easy to get on, so I thought it was alright
Niel: Although I cringed about it initially, it was easy on the ears and I was addicted
L.Joe: I can’t understand the lyrics of our previous songs more; “Clap” was especially difficult” Going crazy because he loves the person so much…
Chunji: It’s about the girlfriend dying (DUHHH L.Joe!)
Ricky: I can fully empathise with the lyrics. On one hand the guy may get caught for 2 timing but, ah, that’s a guy’s roman
No matter what, the most important thing is whether it suits you
Niel: I think this album is more cheerful and since we have to confess, it was easy to devote emotions and we were able to enjoy on stage.
Changjo: I like “touching the back of our hands” the most; I really like the lyrics and the melody. We’re carrying out our activities with songs now.
Recently, you guys were praised by Yoon Jongshin right? Last year during an interview with him he said “Idols cannot only just practise but they need to have more experience, so that they can tell a story with the lyrics” How kind of lyrics do you want to write?
Niel: I want to write about the experience of growing older? The title can be like “I want to fall in love?” along those lines? Haha
C.A.P: I want to write about love for the family, about my parents who have raised me
“Niel is the only one singing everything” How do you feel about such negative criticisms?
L.Joe: Since Teen Top’s being criticized, as a member, we’ll of course be upset. Niel gets criticized for no reason for singing so many parts…
Chunji: I think the parts are distributed fairly, why are they saying this…
Niel’s vocal has a unique force
Niel: I didn’t know that my voice was so unique, but a lot of people had said that, but I think when I grow older and I still have such a feminine voice then I would think it’s gonna be a little weird (HEE HEE!). When I grow older I want to have a voice like C.A.P hyung’s, although I’m satisfied with my current aegyo-ish voice
What do you want to do L.Joe?
L.Joe: I’ve studying really hard about composition, I will write lyrics someday too of course. I let Chunji listen to my latest composition but he said it was outdated.
Chunji: He makes a diverse range of songs but it all sounds the same, like I’ve heard it somewhere before, haha
L.Joe: Ah, and we want to have fun on stage like Big Bang and 2NE1 sunbaenim. Maybe because we just perform a perfect choreography.
How did you guys perfect and sync your choreography?
Chunji: We learn the choreography on our own and we match every action word for word. Changjo’s the choreography teacher (^_^) and we follow Changjo as we match up with every word of the lyrics
Changjo: As we practise even longer, that’s how we perfect our choreography? We need to sync our choreography even more, so much that those who watch it will feel amazed.
Even to a certain extent, you guys look even of the same height? (HA!!!)
L.Joe: We have to stand well in our formation
C.A.P: In proper positions
Ricky: There’s the effect of wearing in-soles, all idols these days wear those. You’ve gotta understand us for this, but usually we don’t wear it.
Today is the exact day of H.O.T’s 15th anniversary, do you remember?
Chunji: When I was in junior school, I remember G.O.D sunbaenim and Shinhwa sunbaenim. I watch them and developed my dream as a singer
Which group do you want to be like?
Niel: Shinhwa sunbaenim! Their vocals, stage performances, acting, compositions, they are good at everything. We want to be like that
Is it because you’re in the same company as Andy? But that means that you’ll be Teen Top till the day you die…
Chunji: We’ll do this until the day we die
Niel: 10 years, 100 years, 1000 years, just like Shinhwa sunbaenim, no, actually we want to last even longer
Ricky: Our goal is an endless friendship
But in reality, after 5, 10 years idols… (disband)
L.Joe: You may think that our thoughts are childish but I fully believe that we can carry out solo activities and continue as a group. It’s difficult to stay together till the end. That’s why it’s our goal.
Which age of yourself are you most curious about?
Ricky: 23 years old, just a few years after becoming an adult. I think I’ll be a flower boy then.
Niel: 28 years old, I’m curious about how it would feel about entering the 30s, just like how I would be entering the 20s…
Chunji: 35 years old, will I be a dad then? I want to get married soon (I'M FREE!)
C.A.P: I’m curious about 50 years old, because my parents are in the 50s, I want to know what kind of thoughts I would have then, whether the body will get tired… My parents look tired even with slight movments
I see that you guys have have a lot of natural skinship?
Niel: Because we’re really close
Chunji: I think we’re really close, we hit each others’ butts, kiss each other, sometimes even bite (O_O)
C.A.P: Nope. Who do you do that with? What?!
Do you get jealous of each other?
L.Joe: Ricky and I are jealous of Changjo’s height. He’s still growing taller now
Niel: Changjo’s dance
Ricky: Chunji hyung’s powerful voice and Niel hyung’s smooth voice
On contrary, what aspects of yourself do you hope others will get jealous about?
C.A.P: No matter what, my hot body line, wouldn’t everyone be jealous of that?
Chunji: My looks or my vocals, something like that… haha
Ricky was a child actor right?
Ricky: Since young, I’ve been carrying the dream of an actor, maybe that’s why I want to join and be part of the “acting-idols”. I want to film a war movie like “Into the fire”
Niel: Me too, and I want to be the person who dies coolly in the finale! (*puts on sunglasses* ALLL RIGHT)
Erm… After being an idol, what do you have to restrict yourself from the most?
Ricky: Snacks! Sometimes I can’t resist the temptation and I’ll just drink milk or have an ice cream. Hyungs’ body types are that of not gaining weight even when eating those, but if I eat…
Do you diet? Idols these days seem to have certain restrictions
Changjo: We don’t. We eat no matter what
C.A.P: It’s tiring to maintain my body and keep myself from gaining weight
How do you guys have fun?
C.A.P: Just like during the filming just now; we fight for chairs, pillow fights
Niel: When we shower, we pour cold water on each other (Is it wrong to say that I would have loved watching that?)
L.Joe: We sleep when we get tired
Many things have been taken away (after being an idol)?
C.A.P: When I’m in the dormitory, my friends would contact me to ask me out. Sometimes it’s frustrating because I want to go out and have fun but I understand it’s something I must sacrifice as a singer.
Ricky: Underage people like me can’t go anywhere late at night…(tell me about it!)
Chunji: There isn’t any free time but we’re happy that we get to go on schedules, we have to succeed
What are the criteria of success to you?
Changjo: When everyone in the country know us
Niel: Like Michael Jackson!
C.A.P: When my mum feels proud when seeing me?
Chunji: Firstly, a rookie award and 1st place on a music chart!
How close are you guys(to success)?
Niel: Are we almost there yet? Since we’ve taken a huge step forward…
Changjo: Everyday everyday we think of getting 1st place
Chunji: We definitely have to win it during our next album. Recently when we look at singers who have won 1st place on music programmes, I want to do that ment too. Yup.
Ricky: When I watch others achieve 1st place, there are times I wanted to cry along. If we get 1st place, I think I’ll break down (Watching Teen Top win would be a glorious day)
Changjo: Ah, when we get first place you have to interview us again, it’s a promise!
