Ending The Endless

She had a good childhood. Lots of happy memories that brought a smile on her face when she recalled them to others. “One summer I went to see Elvis’s house! We went inside and it was huge! We also sat in his giant jet plane and saw his grave marker!” “I remember going to Disney World! I like the tea cups because they are fun and you get to go really fast! I don’t like rollercoasters but my mom made me go on the train.”

It was safe to say that she had loving parents that spoiled her occasionally. So, when did it all go so bad? The times where her loving dad beat up his wife? The countless arguments the whole neighborhood could hear? Or maybe it was when he chose to leave them for a trap. Whatever the case, she couldn’t figure out the reason why this was happening to her and her family.

Years come and gone and she still couldn’t come up with a reasonable answer. Maybe he just didn’t love them anymore. Or maybe he never cared to start with. Despite the overflowing love and affection his wife and daughter gave him, he never showed that love back. After everything, after the 35 years of marriage, he just threw them aside; like nothing.

Heh. Would a loving father do something as shameful and hideous to his family? Would he just flat out say, “I don’t love you. I’m leaving;” to his wife in front of his daughter? Making her cry? Maybe. Maybe not. She didn’t really know. All she knew was she couldn’t take it anymore. She couldn’t take the countless worries. She couldn’t bear to see her mother’s endless crying and heartache over and over again. No. Not anymore. Something must be done.

She didn’t really want to, at first. She knew it was an extremely inane idea to even think about but what other choice did she have left? The wind was unusually strong today; maybe it was a sign. Everything looked enormously tiny. “They all look like ants from up here.” A small invisible smile creped her lips at the thought of the unknown people below her looking like ants.

She looked up to the blue sky, flashes of her life played in front of her. Yes, she would miss them dearly and she knew that they would be miserable without her goofy and random presence; she knew and she felt terrible about it, but she couldn’t go on anymore. She couldn’t pretend like everything is okay, like nothing that happened didn’t affect her. Not anymore.

She took in a deep breathe, filling her lungs with every smell possible-the good and the bad. She was going to miss those delicious and unusual smells. She exhaled slowly while closing her eyes-she had this idea that if you can’t see what is coming, it’ll be easier to let go. “1.” She began to count down. “2.” Her palms began to have rusted paint stuck to it as she held to the rail tightly.

She was second guessing herself in the brief moment before the major part. But it all disappeared as she heard a loud crash followed by screams and sirens in the faint distance. “3.”
