A Word about Fan Fiction Hate
Dear users that think it's okay to write hate comments on a fan fiction,
I'm not normally one to say this, but please go die in a hole.
I'll be frank here, because honestly, you don't deserve elequency:
What you're doing is disgusting. I have now witnessed your work in the comment of stories by two of my friends, and it's pissing me off.
I have literally seen friends go on hiatus and delete their stories because you had to be a horrible ing human being.
Do you not realize that writing fan fiction is the same as writing flash fiction or a novel? It's something that the writer holds dear to their heart and doesn't like letting go. When their work is critisize in a manner that's not even constructive, it hurts.
It's like having a baby, and then the doctor coming up to you and telling you you've made the biggest mistake in your life, and you should just chuck the kid out of the window.
Take this from someone like me, who writes for the whole purpose of getting out my anxieties and fantasies, and trying to get away from reality for a little while:
You're not ing helping.
I may be a resiliant person who was taught not to give a about what "haters" have to say about what I do, but I'm aware that there are people who are not as strong. They're sensitive, and that's just fine. What's not fine is when you break their ing hearts because you don't like one little thing about their story.
Now I know I maybe seem harsh right now, but a friend of mine recently deleted her story because it was recieving hate. It hurts me to see that, namely because she was so proud of herself for gaining the courage to write a boy x boy fanfiction; though it may not seem difficult to myself and other writers, some people really have trouble with that. Different countries have different views on homouality, those who aren't homoual may feel strange about writing about it. So please, be considerate.
I saw this post awhile back, and I feel like I'm not seeing it go through enough.
Today, I want whoever reads this to go to five stories. I don't care if it's not your favorite pairing or anything. Just go. Comment something kind on these stories, whether it be about the author's writing style, their unique ideas, etc. Just make them feel loved. Because, to those who don't write fan fictions, you have to understand that...well...we don't HAVE to write this. We don't have to post what we write. We don't have to satisfy you.
I know the pain of seeing an author stop writing, or then ending or deleting a story because they couldn't bare writing it anymore. I've done that myself, actually. So think about that when you're typing a hate comment: you may not love this author, but someone out there does. They look forward to new chapters, and want to support their favorite author. If you make that author stop writing or go on hiatus, you're not just hurting them, but the people who love them.
Being a writer takes so much more courage than people think. The second you hit that submit button, a whole tsunami of self doubt can wash over you. Yes, there are some times where an author is so confident, they don't feel that. But I know I've seen more than enough author notes, whether they be subtle or not, asking if what they wrote was actually worth the read.
Please, be respectful.
Love,
Minnie
