Very well said!

Sorry for not updating for so long, but I have exams so I need to prioritise. First year Master of Laws is a sh*tload of work OTL

But I just wanted to share this amazing comment with you. I don't know about you, but I read the news at least twice a day and currently a hot debate that's going on here in Europe is about the pending debate in France about gay marriage.

I live in Belgium myself and we have had same--marriage since 2003, so for over 10 years. Hence, we don't really see the problem the French are fussing about. Heck! Even our Prime Minister is gay! He even reacted to the anti-gay-marriage protest in France on his Twitter saying that "I am proud of our country where all couples have the right to marry."

(original messages in Dutch and French)

Ik ben trots op ons land waar alle koppels het recht hebben om te trouwen.

Je suis fier de la modernité de notre pays où tous les couples ont le droit de se marier.

So I was grumbling and grinding whilst reading about our homophobe neighbours* and I stumbled upon this fantastic, crystal clear comment that calmed me a bit and restored my faith in humanity:

"It all boils down to: is marriage a right or a privilege? If a privilege, then it is only for certain people, and the legality of it should be called into question. If it is a right, then it falls within the legal realm and should be for everyone. If it is only a religious ceremony, then it should not be regulated by laws and should not have any legal value. If it is to be in the framework of laws, then it should not be dictated by religious values. Separation of church and state should encompass everything, including marriage, if marrying someone means their legal status changes."

Sorry for ranting, but I just had to get this off my chest. I have exams till the 30th of January, so look for updates after that:)

* I do NOT by all means think that all French people are homophobes. I just used that statement for argument's sake. Je suis désolée. Ne vous en faites pas s'il vous plaît!
