Jongin opened the door without a sound and closed it behind him with equal softness. Kyungsoo didn’t notice him, and Jongin took advantage of the moment. It had been a warm afternoon with promise of a mild night, and the sun was starting to drift low, casting long, lazy lines. There was a light flutter of nerves, a buzz of excitement, but more than anything, Jongin was feeling content. In love.

Kyungsoo was at a full-length mirror, inspecting with hands at his cuffs and shoulders back. Jongin smiled in his own way, and it was something that would always be just for Kyungsoo. He waited, hands behind his back, as Kyungsoo closed his eyes with a deep breath, a few words falling silent between his lips. Jongin thought he looked perfect. A dream in a three-piece suit.

He was walking without much of a thought, only a feeling. His hands fit onto slim hips, gliding around to hold his soon-to-be. Kyungsoo didn’t jump, long since used to Jongin’s habit of appearing when he least expected it. With a brush of lips against cologne marked skin, Jongin drew Kyungsoo in to kiss the beauty mark just above a starched collar.

Kyungsoo hummed. “You’re not supposed to be in here.”

“I’m well aware. Your best man was very clear as I started heading this way.”

“Be nice to Baekhyun.” Kyungsoo turned in Jongin’s arms, eyes falling to an undone bow tie before looking up. They shined in the fading sunlight. “And why are you breaking the rules?”

“I just wanted to see you.”

Kyungsoo quirked an eyebrow and failed to keep a smile at bay with tight lips. Jongin let his run free. Eyes lidded as hands pressed up his black dress shirt, fingers over his chest. Jongin swallowed when Kyungsoo’s gaze found his again. “We’re getting married. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to see me.”

“Not like this.”

They lingered in the meaning, Kyungsoo not replying. Instead, he took the white satin of Jongin’s undone bow tie into his hands and started slowly folding the material. He was careful, eyebrow dipped slightly. Jongin moved to kiss out the tension, but eyes flashed up with warning. He straightened, clearing his throat, and remained still until the task was complete.

Kyungsoo’s thumbs smoothed down the finished product. “Perfect.” It was under his breath and Jongin couldn’t resist. He tipped up Kyungsoo’s chin with a gentle press, and kissed him with everything. Butterflies of anticipation and the warmth of certainty.

Jongin held a dramatic pause. Their world felt frozen, a moment suspended in time, and he wondered how long he could keep it like that. What if he never said his part? Could it go on forever? But then Kyungsoo anticipating eyes turned worried, and it all came out on its own.

“I do.”

Tears ushered in a laugh of relief and Kyungsoo’s mouth was moving against his while the officiant was still declaring them wed. Jongin simply deepened the kiss when they finally got to the end. He tipped Kyungsoo back with a flourish to cheers, whistles, and the swell of their exit music.

There were photos with playful poses and candid glances. Champagne toasts that brought Jongin near to tears. Fingers were intertwined beneath pristine table settings as thumbs brushed over gold bands. There was dancing, twirling spins bright with bubbling laughter, and close brushes that ended with stolen kisses.

The cake was sweet on Kyungsoo’s lips, smeared in a messy line, and he heard later from Sehun that they had never looked happier.

It was late when they stole away into the night. Kyungsoo’s hand swung Jongin’s and he hummed melodies that were already becoming memories. They were almost to their waiting car when Jongin stopped them short and turned, guiding them into the breezy field across from their country venue. Kyungsoo went willingly, gaze tilted up to dance under the stars.

They swayed in the tall grass, Jongin’s arms around Kyungsoo’s waist. His bow tie hung undone, having pulled loose at some point. Kyungsoo’s fingers played with it as he sang their song in a breathy murmur. Jongin didn’t want it to end. It had been such a journey to get there, fears of what ifs, fights and frustrations, spontaneous confessions, and sun drenched smiles. He was already nostalgic.

The song ended and they stood still.

“What are you thinking?”

Jongin sighed holding his husband closer. “I’m not ready to leave.”

“I noticed.” Kyungsoo gently pushed back with a smile. “We can stay here, dancing all night in an empty field and making our driver increasingly impatient.” Fingers dragged down Jongin’s chest, catching on buttons. “Or, we could go to our hotel and dance between the sheets.”

Jongin grinned. The choice was clear, but he still made a play at thinking it over. Kyungsoo used the stray ends of the bowtie for leverage and forced a kiss. It was easy to give in, and Jongin let his tongue be lured out as his hands gripped at what was now forever his.

“I love you.” It was pressed over lips as they stumbled to the car, arm in arm.
