I wish people would stop complaining.

Just today, SM released information about the 2013 Global Auditions.

They are only visiting 3 countries: Japan, USA, and Korea.

People are complaining that they aren't visiting the country they live in. WELL FKING IT UP!!!!!  ITS NOT THAT YOUR COUNTRY DOESNT AHVE TALENT. If they put non-asian into group, its no longer kpop! LIKE HONESTLY. WHY ARE WE PEOPLE INTO KPOP???!!!

CUZ WE LIKE ASIANS. I don't really understand people's complaints. yes, they could visit other Asian countries. I agree. BUT THERE'S A LIMIT OF COUNTRY THEY CAN VISIT AND A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF TRAINEES THEY TAKE.

There's something called video auditions people. Thats how Zhou-mi got into SM. Please shut up and stop complaining.

Kpop is no longer kpop if they dont have Asians in it. FACE REALITY.

People also assume that SM only values looks in auditions. How come I don't really believe that?

I totally agree with this commnet:

Think of the situation if it was flipped. Imagine if an asian girl/boy was trying to make it big in the entertainment business in America. So far, it hasn't happened. Charice Pempengco is INCREDIBLY talented, and while she might have made it "big time" compared to other asians in the field, she hasn't come out on top of the business. And pop music from America is recognized pretty internationally and we say America is pretty international.

And there's a reason why K-entertainment companies don't choose a lot of non-Asians...simply because the language and ultimately cultural gaps are so large, that its hard for those individuals to excel/thrive in the industry. In the entertainment industry, it's important to be talented, but it's equally important to be charmful/humorous/witty/ and coy...and that is hard to pull off in a language/culture you're not entirely familiar with. Heck, even Korean-Americans, like me, sometimes have a hard time tackling the language and culture (b/c we grew up in a different country/environment)....=\ Wish the situation could be different, but in my opinion, it's not going to change drastically in the near future.

Don't know why people keep expecting Asian companies who are putting out Asian music for an Asian audience/market expect them to pick anything other than Asians.

i see a lot of heated discussions over this "only selecting asians" topic..wanted to put in my two cents.like a lot of people have said before, SM's statement of "all nationalities" welcome means that anybody in the countries they are going to are welcome to audition. however, we all know that it is implied that they will most likely choose asians only, but to not explicitly discriminate, they don't say "all ethnicities." because SM knows that they have a lot of non-asian fans, but the talents themselves, i think it's pretty justified that they want only asians.South Korea, and Asia in general, is NOT america or canada. everyone isn't all about diversity, freedom of speech, etc etc. there's a more homogenous culture (yes foreigners may move there and so, but one is expected to adapt to that culture because let's face it, most people who are foreign and go to asia obviously like something about it culturally wise whether it be traditional or pop culture. people come to america not totally just for that reason, so it's different).you have to understand that kpop was originally generated for the Korean and Asian audience. yes, there are ambitions to gain fans/popularity overseas. and yes SM goes to foreign countries because this is a business, and whereever they can get money, they will go to. in your kpop bubble, it feels like kpop is taking over the world, but to be honest it's not that big in america and it never will be. even if it does, it will be temporary. from a business standpoint, SM knows this. which is why even though they may go out of Asia for concerts, the focus will ALWAYS be in Asia. in asia, they will retain popularity, there always will be a following of some sort. young people want to look up to figures that they can sort of "relate" to. they copy the styles of the idols, some try to look like their idols. they want to feel pride that idols from THEIR country are gaining recognition outside of korea/asia. a non-asian act may appeal greatly to foreigners, but to the asian asians, it's sorta like wtf...thousands of koreans want to be entertainers. say a company starts taking in more foreigners who aren't even asian, i don't think they can handle seeing that. not tryna stir up racism, but look at it from the korean market viewpoint.if they wanna look up to foreign stars (which they do), they got american music to listen to. just like how foreigners listen to kpop. LOL im kinda losing my train of thought, my comments getting long...but basically from both a business and cultural standpoint, accepting only asians is pretty justified.doesn't mean they are discriminating. come on, this is a KOREAN company. catering to KOREAN and ASIAN audiences. the north american success is just a plus, remember they don't want to expand here. they don't promote here. it's just a side plus.japan just does their own thing. if you want to be in an asia group that badly, go to japan then.

Btw, they visited a bunch other countries last year. The Youth Star Audition will come out this year. (YES IT IS DIFFERENT FROM GLOBAL AUDITIONS. )

So shutup and it is pissing me off. Also, if you don't really like singing, dancing, acting, or modeling, DONT TRY OUT. seriously! I've talk to tons of idiot fans who just "want to see what it's like." (more like see your favs oppars.) if you dont have the guts to do it, then dont. If you cant deal with tiring training then dont audition. simple.

Okay. So you say that. But what about America? Shouldn't they just allow Americans? And not people that aren't Americans? I mean, people all over the world are famous in America and yet people out of Asia is not allowed to get into the K-pop industry? Please... People that doesn't look Asian, or out of Asia will succeed in the Korean industry. You can't tell them what to do. People get into the Korean industry because they LIKE K-pop.

I totally agree with you on this. But then, we as Asians knew too well that eventually they will pick the ones that are Koreans itself, Chinese and even Japanese (but looking at the situation between those two countries at the moment, I don't think there will be one.)
Why? Because even if we are all in the same continent, there are some countries which have different culture from them. And I think if there's an artist from, like, Southeast Asia, they will be treated differently because their physical appearance are mostly not like what Koreans are. I know, because I'm an Asian myself.
Wait, I think I kinda sounds a little racist here. I'm losing my point, to be honest. But I do agree with you. :-)

I agree...
I mean, wtf, it's called K-Pop for a reason. If someone from let's say France want to be a star, why can't they be a star in France/Europe/somewhere where they know the language? They don't have to go to Korea to try out? And just imagine this one Korean having a big dream of becoming a star in France, and going there, not knowing a single word of french... is that gonna work?? It's just the same the other way around.
PLUS in that part of Asia they aren't that used to foreigners tbh and most of them don't know exactly how to act around them since they don't know anyone personally.. Trust met, I lived in Asia for 1 year and most of the time I was treated like I was some sort of creature from outer space. "YOU LOOK LIKE BARBIE" or "YOU LOOK LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT"... yeah, sure I do. =_=
But yes, it is fine to have a dream but... staying there as a non-Asian, not looking similar to them, would make you stand out and not in a good way.. They would treat you differently. Even Chinese and Thai stars in K-Pop are treated differently...

I don't exactly agree.
Why?
Because Asia isn't just Korea and Japan. Say an Indian was to audition, you'd be against it because it's an Indian? I'm sorry, but the last time I checked, India's part of Asia.

I totally agree. Kpop is not global and never will be since not many people like asian stuff ( NOT A RACIST i am asian too but u see i say this from experience since i see how much my friends bash kpop and label it 'gay').People think is just that easy to audition get accepted and debut but they don't see the fact that it is really hard to fit in the Korean culture if ur a foreigner ( not being a racist, I hate racism) and i dont think the korean audience want that either ( for foreigners to enter their music industry).some think auditioning for SM is like what they read in fanfics. I know how much a lot of people want to audition for SM and all that ( and they are non-Asians) but lets face it if SM Would let foreigner in the it would no longer be kpop and it would be something just like American music, so in conclusion it will lose its kpopness (lol). To be honest no matter how much I like kpop I don't want it to become global or multicultural or whatever because I like it how I listen to the type of music no one else does XD

Eee, touchy topic. I feel bad for someone who's passion is "KPOP" and they aren't Asian. I've met a few people, and they are so talented. It doesn't hurt to dream :/ Coming from someone who's half Korean, I know how much it to be automatically shunned because we're not pure blood or for someone that isn't Asian at all. Like I said, it doesn't hurt to dream :P

I think we all should be allowed to express our opinions to be honest. It's a way to vent. I mean, if you are allowed to complain about how you don't like it when people complain about their country not being in SM's Global Audition, why aren't they allowed to complain as well? We all have the right to voice our opinions. If you're sick of it, simply ignore it.
I agree that non-Asians shouldn't be in kpop but there are Asians in other countries as well. I'm from Australia and I'm Asian. There are a lot of Asians in the area I live.
I also think when people say they 'want to see what it's like', what they really mean is 'I hope I get in but I won't say that to my friends because I don't want them to laugh if I don't pass' or something.
And I think Far East Movement are pretty big in America.

*TWO THUMBS UP* Totally agree. It's really not that SMTown is racist or any of that crap people are labeling them. If a non-Asian got into the k-pop industry, think of how hard that person will have to work compared to the other Asians. That person would most likely drop out due to all the stress before he/she even got to debut.

AMEN! YES YOUTH AUDITIONS! FINALLY I CAN GO TRY AGAIN! Too bad I couldn't go last time... But the visual thing is true. I know someone who met a not-so-talented goddess and she got in SM. she's REALLY talented but not as pretty so she was dropped out.

Agrees as much as reality punches these people in the face, there's nothing we can do about it >< kpop is after all Korean and not American or international. And it seems the industry does have a thing about homogeneity in terms of looks which is why so far there's only Japan, china, Thailand and Singapore stepping into the picture...
And about people who just want to audition to see their idols, you'll be wasting your time -.- and those auditioning for fun, please, just follow what Dream High says, if you want to sing for fun, go to the karaoke instead...

Has anyone heard of D-Pryde?

He's an Asian-American artist. In his song 'Blink of an Eye', he said this line:
"They said that I was Asian/I wasn't well in rap/ Now check honors on YouTube and try to tell me that."

This is a prime example of what is going the first comment you noted is talking about. I don't understand why people are so ignorant about these things.

I hate to say this but I think if you have talent and you're light enough, you have a better chance of getting into SM than me (me being black).

People need to get it through their thick skulls that this is just harsh reality they're going to have to face.

Bite a rock and get over it. =/

{Sorry to waster this space. And that rhymed, Booyah! xDD}
