Let's Write to this Modest Proposal - Plot Sheet

Title suggestions:
•Just A Game Of Russian Roulette
•Five Bullets

Description idea:
“That’s when I realized…even though he pulled the trigger, every time we jokingly called him a loser or a nobody, we put another bullet in the chamber of his gun so that when he played Russian Roulette, we gave him no chance of making it out alive.”
-Kinetic Affect, The Darndest Things

Character suggestions:
Elder brother: Zico/Youngjae/Yongguk
Younger brother: Jaehyo/Daehyun/Himchan

(I know their ages are mixed up, but that's because I wanted a silent younger brother who quietly tolerates everything, and a playful, cheerful, happy-go-lucky elder brother who doesn't pay much attention to his younger brother.)

Overall idea:
The younger brother kills himself by playing Russian Roulette with every chamber filled, because he was bullied in school, neglected by his parents because they doted on his elder brother more, and always ignored/sneered at by his elder brother. The elder brother despises his younger brother because he was a good-for-nothing—he failed all his tests, he wasn't good at sports, and he was always bullied—causing the elder brother to get teased a lot because of him. But when he commits suicide, the elder brother feels empty, and eventually he realises that he needs, cherishes, /loves/ his younger brother, and goes crazy because of the empty space his brother left behind. Whether he kills himself too or not is up to you.

Part 1:

•[Present] It starts with the younger brother inserting one bullet into the chamber of the gun. He spins the cylinder and presses the muzzle to his temple. He closes his eyes and pulls the trigger, but it's an empty chamber.

•Cut to a flashback of how the younger brother was bullied in school.
(This should be written in italics so the readers can differentiate the flashbacks from the present time.)

•[Flashback] Describe one incident of how the younger brother was bullied in school. It should be a relatively minor one, with no injuries to him yet. Perhaps he finds his desk vandalised with insults, or his textbooks and worksheets go missing (obviously taken by the bullies).

•Cut to the present time.

•[Present] The younger brother inserts another bullet. He repeats the same steps, spinning the cylinder again and pressing the muzzle to his temple. He pulls the trigger, but it's an empty chamber yet again.

•Cut to a flashback of the younger brother being bullied in school again.

•[Flashback] The second incident should be more major, perhaps of them beating him up or pushing him down a flight of stairs. He should have several bruises and cuts. When he returns home, his parents don't notice the bruises on his arms, as they are too busy doting on his elder brother. In their room, his elder brother notices the bruises when he changes, but instead of asking if he is okay, he loses his patience and scolds him for not standing up and fighting back, making him (elder bro) get teased a lot. The younger brother listens, head bowed, and escapes to the bathroom the moment his elder brother finishes speaking. He cuts his wrists several times, the crimson liquid flowing into the filled bathtub.

•Cut to the present time.

•[Present] By now, the younger brother is frustrated, and he doesn't even bother to fire at himself. He simply slides a bullet in, and then another. He hesitates before putting in the last one.

•Cut to a flashback of the younger brother being neglected at home.

•[Flashback] During dinner, the elder brother tells their parents about the gold medal he won at a sports tournament. (You can choose which sport, it doesn't really matter.) Their parents praise him, and chide the younger brother about how he's not athletic, unlike his elder brother. They remark on how he isn't as well built as his elder brother.
The younger brother barely eats much, and after dinner, he escapes to the bathroom yet again. He forces himself to retch, and stares at himself in the mirror. Tears fall from his eyes, and he cuts his wrists again, opening up old scars and creating new wounds.

•Cut to the present time.

•[Present] The younger brother hesitates. Is he sure he wants to die? He then remembers the incident that made him want to kill himself.

•Cut to a flashback.

•[Flashback] The younger brother walks to his desk. He's used to seeing insults carved onto his desk, but today it's different. There's a single lighted candle, and a white flower. A symbol of death. Next to it, someone has carved the words 'Just go and die'. It is then that he realises that it isn't just the bully who hates him, but the whole class. They all despise him for bringing the class grade average down. They find him an eyesore. They want him to disappear, to die.

•[Present] The younger brother takes a deep breath to calm himself down, and determinedly slides in the last bullet. He spins the round, though he knows that no matter which chamber it stops at, he will still die. He raises the muzzle to his head, and shoots.

Boom.

Part 2:

•The elder brother returns home from school just as he hears a loud bang. He suspects it's a burglar, and grabbing some weapon (eg. his dad's golf club or baseball bat), he carefully makes his way to the bedroom (thus wasting time).

•By the time he opens the door to the bedroom, the younger brother is already lying in a pool of blood, dead. The elder brother drops the baseball bat in shock and kneels down next to his brother, shaking him.

•When his funeral is held, no one goes except for the elder brother and the priest (who is required to go and would never have gone willingly to a funeral for "someone like that suicidal freak").

As for the ending, I'm not too sure how I want it to end (it can end in many ways), so I'm giving you two choices. If you don't like these two, PM me and we'll think of something together :)

1. The elder brother keeps blaming himself, but when he sees his brother's serene, and almost happy, face in the coffin, he realises that this is what he truly wanted—to be free, in Heaven.

2. Their parents move out, not wanting to live in "such an inauspicious place", and the elder brother moves with them. A year later, the new house owners find a video left by the younger brother, and passes it to the elder brother. In the video, the younger brother says that he doesn't blame his brother for detesting a worthless brother like him, and that he truly wanted to die; that he just wanted to escape and be free.

Hope this is okay! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me ^^ I might update more possible endings if I get inspiration :)
