Idea

Kyungsoo is involved in a forbidden occult practices, in search of the divine enlightenment. Later on he finds himself doing murders in a space called 'The Interval'. He regrets his decision but there's no turning back. In the end, he found the divine enlightenment, but not the way he expected.

Storyline

 

i.

- Kyungsoo finds himself in a familiar, yet strange environment. The city looks the same but there is no noise, no sign of living beings anywhere. He is standing in front of an apartment building which he passes by everyday on his way to work.

- For some reason, he enters the building and headed towards a certain unit, as if there is a magnetic force drawing him towards it.

- He enters the apartment unit and finds a young girl, aged about fifteen years old, sleeping on her bed. Kyungsoo pulls out a knife and stabs right in the middle of her chest. Kyungsoo ignores his victim’s bulging eyes and struggles for air, and tears her chest open. He pulls out her still beating heart, slurps in the blood and munches on it.

- Kyungsoo wakes up suddenly. He finds himself sitting on his bed. His feelings are mixed between fear and thrilling excitement. He has been having similar dreams for three consecutive nights. However, he smiles, albeit still feeling nervous, and whispers to himself, ‘This is it.’ He also murmurs something about being close to the ‘divine enlightenment’.

 

ii.

- Kyungsoo is sitting in a dim room. He isn’t alone, in fact there are quite a number of people in the room.

- The people all surround a large, long table. Candles are arranged along the length of the table and lit up. There’s a star-in-circle symbol carved on the middle of the surface.

- Everyone (including Kyungsoo) murmurs a chant of mixed sound that sounds foreign to his ears, until a person in dark coloured robe enters.

- He announces that today they are going to have a feast. A group of people clad in similar garbs enters with a coffin. They place the coffin on the table. In it, there’s a woman corpse that has turned pale. Her face is crushed to the point she is no longer recognizable nor looks human.

- The leader says that the woman has acquired the divine enlightenment. She has found the way to eternal peace and highest form of living. The leader invites all of the people in the room to have a bite of the woman with hope that they will receive some of her ‘enlightenment’.

- Everyone in the room, including Kyungsoo, gets up and tears off pieces of meat from the corpse with their bare hands and eats them raw.

- Kyungsoo has a feeling that he is growing closer to the ‘divine enlightenment’.

 

iii.

- During the day, at his workplace. Kyungsoo is just a regular office worker.

- He is being reprimanded by a higher up because of a minor mistake and yet when a pretty secretary makes a mistake, he easily overlooks it.

- Kyungsoo returns to his desk with vengeful feelings. He thinks the world is corrupted and wish to gain the divine enlightenment quick.

- While he resumes his work, he overhears some officemates gossiping about a current issue. Apparently, this morning, a fifteen year old was found dead in her bedroom. Her chest was cut open, her heart is missing and her blood is dried.

- Kyungsoo alerts, feeling nervous for some reason. He searches up the news on internet to confirm it, and a picture of the fifteen year old came up in an article. She’s the same girl in his dream last night.

- Kyungsoo secretly freaks out. He thought those dreams are just ‘signs’.

- Flashback to a few days before, when Kyungsoo bumped into the same girl. She did something rude to him. 

 

iv.

- Kyungsoo finds himself standing in the same ‘world’ he was in before. Desaturated shades, deafening silence.

- He is standing in front of the building he works at. He enters it and finds the manager who scolded him earlier that day.

- The manager is wroking alone into the late night. He is startled to see Kyungsoo there.

- Kyungsoo pulls out a knife stabs it right in the middle of his chest.

- Kyungsoo wakes up in his bed, sweating profusely. He screams in fright to see himself sitting on a chair at the corner of his room. For now, I’ll be referring to him as ‘Devil Kyungsoo’.

- Devil Kyungsoo smirked, asking if Kyungsoo is not curious about him.

- Kyungsoo’s manner of speech becomes hostile. He demands for explanation.

- Devil Kyungsoo explains to him. Some of the things that he tells Kyungsoo are:

a) They are both right now within a realm of the unconscious. It’s a space called ‘The Interval’, a space where the time doesn’t tick, a stopping point before today turns to tomorrow.

b) Devil Kyungsoo says that he is Kyungsoo’s counterpart of that space, his subconscious, the soul that Kyungsoo had sold to the devil. Kyungsoo has long harbored hatred towards the world, and thus he is granted access to ‘The Interval’.

c) Anything that Kyungsoo subconsciously wishes, Devil Kyungsoo does it in The Interval. The effects will take place after Kyungsoo wakes up, when the clock starts ticking again.

d) Since he is Kyungsoo’s deepest desire, Devil Kyungsoo warns Kyungsoo (cynically) to be careful of his wishes.

- Kyungsoo wakes up for the second time. He is still in his bed, but this time, Devil Kyungsoo is no longer around.

 

v.

- Kyungsoo goes to work next day but the building is closed. There are crime scene tapes and police all over the place.

- He overhears people talking about a manager who died from a stabbing in his chest.

- Kyungsoo sees a police stopping an employee and brings him away for questioning. Kyungsoo trembles with fear, but his ego doesn’t let him admit his anxiety. He makes a u-turn and leaves the place. Inwardly, he curses the police for being ‘busybody’ and ‘troublesome’ and does nothing to prevail the justice.

 

vi.

- On another night, Kyungsoo wakes up drenched in sweat. He starts having dreams of killing people he has never met before. He couldn’t tell if they really has died since he has been locking himself up for a few days, for the fear of being found by the police.

- Kyungsoo looks at the window to see the dark sky. The night is still long, but he doesn’t want to fall asleep, he doesn’t want to enter The Interval anymore. His tried to find a way to stop this.

- Just before he looks away, he manages to see a flash of his own reflection on the window glass, smirking. When he looks again to make sure, there is no such thing.

- Kyungsoo sits at the edge of his bed, fidgety. And then, he sees the reflection of his own on a mirror. It is the Devil Kyungsoo: eyes red with a wicked smirk on. Kyungsoo yells at the reflection, denying his presence since he is sure that he is not sleeping. He picks up a chair and throws it at the mirror, shattering it to pieces. Echoes of Devil Kyungsoo’s laugh can still be heard.

- Devil Kyungsoo tells him ‘that once he begins to taint his hands with blood, he will forever be thirsty for it. There’s no way out. There’s no escaping once he gains access to The Interval’.

- Kyungsoo hits his own head with his fist, yelling to himself to ‘Wake up!’ but Devil Kyungsoo’s laugh still echoes loudly in his head. Desperate to find a ‘way out’, Kyungsoo starts to bang his head on the wall over and over, ignoring the blood spurting out from his wounds.

 

 vii.

- The same previous dark room, with people murmuring strange chant until a person in a robe comes in. Just like before, he announces about a feast.

- A group of similarly dressed men brings in a coffin and set it on the table. In it, a corpse of a young man. His face is crushed beyond recognizable.

 

Others

- When the Devil Kyungsoo explains about ‘The Interval’, it doesn’t have to be in the listed order. You can do it in any way as you see fit.

- You can do multiple chapters or strictly one-shot. Your choice.

- I hope I’m not being too detailed that I sort of block your creativity or anything >.<
