Why I love AFF and why I write

I love this site because here, it doesn’t really matter about popularity or writing well. Granted, those are factors that are the basis of a successful story, but it honestly undermines the true and pure essence of this site, for success comes in all shapes and sizes. It is up to the writer to discover them.

This site is a gathering of people that share the love and happiness of writing to the domain of those that love to read. It is a cycle of happiness that brings a great smile to my face. We share, we open up, and we explore. It’s the origins of the artist and adventurer in all of us. Because think about it, it’s a huge step to go from closet fan-girling to creating art that hundreds of others will read. This site is all about bravery, taking risks, and unearthing the confidence we thought we never had.

This is what this site has given me over the past few years: Confidence. Writing is a hobby that I cannot let go. It is my contribution to others—making people smile. This site is where I may be able to grow as a person, to be more confident in my writing, and to become better at writing in the long run.

Many of us here, including me, have not entirely honed out this skill, but this is the point. I love this site because we grow together. This community is a special one, one consisted of people that want to try new things, and others that want to sit back and warm up their fingers to another installment. Writing is flexible and can be taken on by many sides and approaches—it is a ball of clay that takes many shapes.

And thus I get into the explanation of why I love writing. I have entered the art of writing creatively when I was in sixth grade, and despite taking numerous long breaks, I have always come back. Writing is an exercise for the brain. Not only that, but writing is as similar as painting—the blank whiteness below this line is an empty canvas; I can choose which world to set my words in, which characters to stage. Writing is as close as a godly act as we humans can get.

Words are powerful. When we read, we feel. And feeling carries on with you throughout the day. Writing is the tool that I enable to leave people with powerful impressions. To influence and to delight—that is why I continue to write.

All in all, writing and reading are one of the greatest pleasures of this world. Do not be shy— if you believe what you make is right, then write. Whether new to this world or comfortable, welcome. This is happiness, this is madness, this is sadness. I am so humble and thankful to be a part of your world, and it would be my honor for you to enter mine.

So flex your fingers and sharpen your pencils.

                     Now write away, my friends.

With love,
