5 Centimeters Per Second

Has anyone seen the film 5 Centimeters Per Second?

I asked for it for Christmas and just watched it now.

It's so beautifully drawn I wanted to cry.

But...I'm not so sure about the ending...

I looked online for some other people's thoughts and I get that its supposed to convey disappointment and loss etc etc which is fair enough, but I don't think it really showed it that well? Suddenly there were more characters introduced and then a song started playing and I was just like

...whut?

 

And another thing.

Is it just me or is it pretty darn similar to the book Norwegian Wood?! So similar that even the hairstyles of the two girls are the same o.O

I realize this is so long ago, but I just watched 5 centimeters per second, and I've read Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood, and I googled a comparisons to find this. I completely agree. Everything from the characters to the plot to the beautiful language. Obviously Norwegian Wood is a little more...frisky, but they're similar in many, many ways. And then there's the song at the end.
