But really, what words can we say that will put the mothers of the deceased at peace? What do we have to say, what reassurances do we have to give them? The hollow words, the tears, they mean nothing, nothing at all to those who have suffered such great losses so closely.

Adam Lanza, the murderer, is dead as well. The parents have no one to go for answers. Then again, what would the answers mean to them? That wouldn’t bring back their kids.

This reminds me of the death of a best friend, the second death I have experienced so closely, the second dear person to have gone away. He was 18, my best friend, and even though we fought and teased each other more than we complimented, we were best friends. Some people thought we were siblings because we were inseparable. But that day, we had been separated. Two days before his flight to America, where he was supposed to start University, he went out for a drive, never came back. That was the first time I had felt at a loss of words. Standing in front of his mother, I felt I’ve done a crime by being alive when his son wasn’t. The mother’s loss is too great to be replenished.

I’m appalled to find that Adam Lanza had two handguns. Even if his personality disorder had not been diagnosed, why was a 20 year old allowed to have two handguns? Why wasn’t his personality disorder not diagnosed, hasn’t his mother noticed anything?

The answers might come too late, or they might not come at all.

All that remains is the cruel fact that 26 people lost their lives, and nothing we do, no discussion, no talk of legislation will bring them back. Not even the murderer himself.

I believe in the Almighty and I believe what He does, He does for a reason. Although that is consolation for the families in mourning, I hope the Almighty will give them the strength to carry on.  May the souls of the deceased rest in peace and may they be forgiven in death.
