Best Asian Horror

In no particular order. Click the title for link to the movie.

1. Noroi (The Curse) - 2005

In terms of scare factor, this movie will definitely leave you in shivers. It's about a reporter who disappeared after his wife died in a house fire. The police (not sure if it's the police or a TV station) then receive a package with no return address containing the reporter's documentary videos. Turns out that he had followed a series of strange events that seem to link to each other and lead to an ancient Japanese curse.

I will forever remember the ending of this movie. I watched it alone in my dorm, I couldn't get it out of my head for about an hour or so. Movie hangovers mean the movie's good, right? I strongly recommend you watch this, it's a Japanese horror classic!

2. The Doll Master - 2004

As some of you may know, I based my story of the same title on this movie. This one's a South Korean horror film featuring a group of people invited to a famous dollmaker's house to photograph the dolls. Of course, the house is in an isolated part of the forest or this movie wouldn't be scary. They start dying one by one in freakish ways, and it doesn't take them long to figure out that the dolls are killing people. If you like gruesome deaths and classic horror cheesiness, then I suggest you click on this movie right away!

Warning: ending is sad.

3. Death Bell - 2008

Oh hey, honor students dying one by one lol. This movie takes place in a South Korean highschool where the top twenty students are required to stay for the weekend to study for college entrance exams. Then someone forces them to stay in school or they will die one by one, by order of class rank, then requires them to answer a question or one of them will die. Slasher-ish film, bet you'll enjoy it. Plus, Kim Bum's in it so...

4. Ghastly - 2011

Again, horror movie from South Korea. It's about a family adopting a boy named Bin whose parents just got murdered (suspects still unknown) and moving into the house where said murders occured, then strange things begin to happen, of course. The main actress (middle picture) then begings to unravel a dark, evil secret hidden somewhere in the shed, where Bin told her not to go into. This movie guarantees some jump scares, creepy child things and other horror goodies.

The girl in the first picture kinda looks like Jessica, doesn't she? Or maybe it is her.

5. 13 Real Asian Horror Stories

Even though it's not that fancy when it comes to effects or cinematography, this Japanese horror anthology is one of my favorites. I don't know, the Japanese are just really creative when it comes to horror that everything they make is really creepy. I suggest this movie for all those Japanese horror fans. Watch it with your friends!

6. Infection - 2004

Don't click if you're squeamish. Click if you love green blood and disgusting stuff. This movie is one of my favorites because it also has psychological factors to it, not just jump scares or gory scenes. Plus, the twist near the end is kinda frustrating, but it's good and it fits the story well.

I remember watching this when I was a kid, I didn't really remember much of it. It's about a group of doctors and nurses in a hospital that's near closing down. They're staying for a night shift and just lost a patient due to a nurse's mistake. Then they receive an emergency patient whom they try to refuse because they're out of rooms, but the medics left the body there. It turns out that this body carries a deadly infection that turns its victims into a crazy people with green goo coming out of their orifices.

7. Ju-on: The Grudge - 2000

Who hasn't heard of this Japanese gem? Obviously most of us do because of the American remake. Honestly, I hate the American remake. I hate American remakes of any Asian horro films because they just downgrade it.

This movie is about a veangeful spirit haunting this girl. Actually, I forgot the story since I haven't watched it in forever, but you have to see it. It's full of good o'l jump scares and creepy music and that creepy kid on the cover. It's great to watch when you're with your easily scared friends. (The second picture is my favorite scene)

8. Forbidden Floor - 2006

A single mother and her six-year-old daughter move into a new apartment complex. Being an architect, the mother is always busy with work even when at home and leaves her daughter in a daycare during the day. The daugher's attitude starts changing, and her mother blames it on lack of attention. Then, stranger things begin happening in the apartment, and the main uncovers its true past.

9. Katakata (Rattle Rattle) - 2006

This short is actually part of a full-length anthology called Unholy Women, and this one is my favorite because it's so ing creepy and makes you feel that the main is stuck in a hellish nightmare. It's seriously nightmare-material if you think about it, just the deserted streets will prove that to you.

Katakata or Rattle Rattle is about a woman who gets into another dimension and gets chased by an evil banshee witch thing dressed in red, and there's nobody in there to help her. Just the fact that everything is deserted is terrifying. Then they get into a really awesome terrifying chase for thirty minutes until she gets transported back to the real world, where the reality has been related to her 'nightmare' all along.

10. Sigaw (Scream) - 2004

I couldn't find any links on Youtube, so might as well look it up for yourself. This Filipino movie was also remade by Americans, and I haven't watched it yet. It features a young man living in a dingy, old apartment complex and he and his girlfriend gets terrorized by the spirits that live there. It's scary and it's creepy, especially the elevator part. God, horror elevators are the best.

I hope you enjoy this film! Watch it with your friends!
