Graphics Review: "Flashes of Wonderland" by Ryeouu

First Impression 9/10

Cute. I don't really understand the title matching the pictures of the characters, and for me as a reader, I think I would want a little more connection there. Then again, there isn’t a story linked to this, so it doesn’t really matter.

Technique 20/20

Cutting, layer mask and color matching are all great. I like that you played with the curves and color of the character photos – it’s always difficult finding the perfect tone you want to set to equalize the poster as a whole. Seriously, I can’t think of any suggestions to improve because it seems like you have gotten the cutting down to a science. I know for a fact that cutting out from something that has a preset, busy background can be very difficult, so the fact that you have done it flawlessly is very impressive.

Resources 20/20

I think you did a great job at using your resources. HQ Pics, uncommon fonts, a little paint swipe brush/texture – it all works really well together.

Composition 20/20

Personally, I like a poster that can be split up into very clear sections. I think you really did well here by focusing everything on a central focal point. The background you chose is not to distracting, but adds movement and a little bit of 3-D action to the poster.

Theme/Mood 20/20

If this is a cute, happy, romantic piece, then I think you hit the nail on the head. The bright pastel colors indicate cute, along with the cute hairstyles of Yonghwa and Seohyun. Holding hands almost always indicates romance, so you go that covered, and they both are smiling, so there goes the happy! Maybe having a couple of hearts in the background or flowers or something would give the romance feel a bit more, but it’s not crucial.

Typography 10/10

I think you used your fonts perfectly here. You chose fonts that matched both your theme, and sort of even the meanings of the words themselves.

Extra 10/10

For using GIMP, I am very impressed. Having used Photoshop my whole life, GIMP, though similar, always gives me trouble. So I applaud you for having the skill and the patience that I don’t.

Final Score: 99/100
