Moonlight

In my Honors ELA 1 class, we have to write a love poem with a mood shift, so this is what I came up with. ^^

Moonlight

A river flows in the dead of night

Ice creeping over with a scaring fright.

Wind screams out its painful wallow,

A wailing of sorrow

Growls and screeches sing through the air

The creatures expecting to cause a scare.

Feet crunch through the snow;

The lamp emits a faint glow.

Frost-nipped fingers shiver and shake,

A heartbroken man with only a quiver and a quake.

Mr. Moon hides behind his cloud,

The cover appearing in slim shrouds.

Stars twinkle and shine

Aging about as fine as wine.

Finally the moon disappears and hides once more,

The sun knocking on the new day’s door.

A stream of bright rays break through the trees

The warmth waking all of the hard-working bees.

Critters hop and slither and crawl and run

The new season bringing celebration and lots more fun.

A man and a woman with fingers intertwined—

Their gazes showing the looks of their kind—

A feeling so unstoppable and beautiful,

Nothing in the world could turn it harmful.

A river flows in the rays of the day

No harm or pain to make it sway.

Smiles and laughter ringing in the groves of trees;

The groups of families appearing in threes.

The once-wallowing man standing in a suit

And the happiness glowing that would be followed with a “Woot!”
