Into the New World

Name: choi jaeyeon ( 최재연 )

Nickname(s):

{ cui zhen 崔珍 }  it's really more of her chinese name rather than a nickname, although it can be a nickname because only her mother has the privelage of calling her zhen.  anyone else, really, will meet with her fist.  unless they make a fool of themselves by anunciating it wrongly.  yup, no certain order there.

{ jay 제이 } it was her best friend that began calling her jay.  they were both 7 when min called her over with a loud "jae!"  jay answered to it and didn't pay much attention to the nickname.  the more min began calling her that, however, the more interested jay became.  they were 9 years old when jay finally questioned her, "do you spell that as j-a-e or j-a-y?"  min pondered for a bit before saying "j-a-y" because it "just looks cooler than j-a-e."  it has stuck through the years and everybody who's anybody and personally know her insist on calling her jay rather than jaeyeon.  everybody else sticks with jaeyeon-ssi or jaeyeon.

I Need a Time Machine

Family Background:

jay was born as choi jaeyeon in ulsan, south korea through a chinese mother and a korean father.  she grew up as your regular child with two parents and an older sister.  without much encouragement, the two siblings were very artistically and academically inclined.  jay was naturally a dancer and a violinist, while jaemin a pianist and a scientist.  for these reasons, the family soon relocated to seoul, kkum-gu, more specifically, when jay was 10 and settled down.  jihoon, the father, began to build up a bakery of his own in gangnam and junghee, the mother, worked as a columnist for the korea times.

with pretty wealthy parents, jay and her sister basically had everything they needed in their hands.  nothing seemed to stop jay from doing work, work, work, oh, and some intensive work, however.  that's what her life revolved around.  no one could blame her, really.  she lived in seoul, the biggest area of south korea and her mother was chinese.  jay adapted to being fiercely independant through hard work.  as an elementary schooler, jay worked her of to achieve perfect grades wholeheartedly and this trait followed her to high school as well as in her ballet dancing.

jay has never felt that sense of true accomplishment and happiness, no matter how much she seemed to accomplish for herself.  yes, she was in the top three of her class when it came to grades, and yes, she was probably the best soloist in korea national ballet, but it just wasn't enough.  that is, until she finally broke out of the whole 'good girl' act and went to her best friend's brother's house party as a 14 year old.  there she met this guy -- because it's always a guy, is it not?  his name was kim sunggyu, the lead singer of the band playing at the party, and he had the most beautiful voice in the whole planet.

she never knew the way he would announce her name would ever mean so much to her, but it did.  they spent a whole four months just talking on the phone and emailing each other, and after the best accident ever (his coming to ballet rehearsal to watch her dance caused a broken ankle, a very sweet confession, and an equally sweet kiss), he asked her out on month six.  he's been her source of happiness for the two years they've been together.

a gig out of town caused him his life at 17, and jay just knew she shouldn't have approved of him driving all the way to busan when he had only gotten his license a week before.

life resumed, people were replaced, people were met.  but things were never the same.

Family Members:

mother.  cui zheng a.k.a. choi junghee  |  46 years old  |  mother  |  journalist / columnist for their local newspaper  |  oc  |  because of her over-inflated head, jay and her mother never really got along as well as mother-daughter relationships are made out to be.  needless to say, they're almost always arguing when both are home.  however their arguments are almost always about small things.  other times she's alright.  well okay, alright enough for jay to not scream her lungs out everytime.  |  image.

father.  choi jihoon  |  49 years old  |  father  |  bakery owner -- retro oven  |  oc  |  he's her best friend, her teddy bear, her beloved father.  needless to say, jay has a very comfortable relationship with her father.  he's always the first person she runs to whenever something bad happens to her and he makes everything right most of the time, most of the time anyway.  |  image.

sister.  choi jaemin  |  21 years old  |  older sister  |  college student at university of hong kong & uniqlo cashier  |  they used to hate each other.  like, more than anything.  jay and jaemin would  litterally rip each others' hairs out and kick at each other, but what triggered peace between them was jaemin's acceptance into hong kong university.  jay realized how horrible life was without her older sister and bought yopik, their long-time husky, as a peace offering, as she's knows how much her older sister loves dogs. ( alright, maybe she got their father to buy him, yopik, because she was just barely a teenager, but it's really the thought that counts, right?)  they've been nothing but best friends ever since, and jaemin has been her inspiration to keep up everyday.  |  jung minhee.

VVIP, Rock with Me

Best friend:

best friend.  son 'min' minjung  |  17 years old  |  dance friend and classmate |  student & ballerina at korea national ballet  |  oc  |  minjung, who prefers min because "it's just much shorter and sassier than minjung", is kind of the person that really compliments jay just because they're so similar, personality wise.  neither really liked to sugar coat things and preferred to be straightforward, and that goes for their relationship more than anything.  they'll tell each other the truth, and their motto is honestly "the more it hurts, the more you know it's the truth."  sure, you can call it a love-hate relationship but it's more love than hate, most of the time at least.  their late night calls and early morning chats trying to keep each other awake really make up the fact that they do nothing but criticize each other more than half the time.  |  sung sin.

Friends:

friend.  yoo 'joong' hyunjoong  |  19 years old  |  older brother figure  |  student at seoul national university & cashier at starbucks  |  oc  |  the dearest male of seoul national university is actually a childhood friend of jay's.  joong was eight and jay was seven when they first met at a piano academy both attended in ulsan.  ever since then he's become her mentor and - okay - big brother.  he's kind of more like the shoulder you can cry on and the one who'll always be there through ups and downs.  they're extremely close and know anything and everything about the other.  they rarely argue and when they do it'll mostly about silly matters, but when it becomes serious it'll lead up to her crying and blaming herself for everything.  admittedly, during one of these fights, jay realized she had some feelings for the other, but did not want anything damaging their friendship and ended up keeping things to herself.  she got over it, and that news is old.  like 2007 old.  and fyi, his girfried, han minah, is the nicest thing.  |  park hyungseok.

friend.  nam woohyun  |  18 years old  |  singer and classmate  |  student and part-time waiter at retro oven & part-time lead singer of the band beat  |  idol  |  it's very different with woohyun, for the simple fact that they were both close to the one male that now sleeps eternally.  sunggyu, the original lead singer of beat, was woohyun's best friend and mentor as well as jay's long-term boyfriend.  the boy's death brought woohyun and jay together, and they've been friends ever since.  he can never really be her best friend, because the mere sight of him is a reminder of sunggyu, but the two are pretty close.  woohyun, though min would be very upset upon knowledge of this, is always the first one jay goes to when there's some sort of trouble.  he'll manage to calm her down with jokes and by teasing her because woohyun is still the charming, mischevious woohyun.  there's something about him that just comforts jay, and he's pretty much one of the only people who can both see and make her smile and laugh.  |  image.

friend.  jung 'krystal' soojung  |  17 years old  |  dance friend  |  student at anyang foreign language high school & ballerina at korea national ballet  |  idol  |   krystal, a transfer from sacramento ballet to korea national ballet, was always a quiet soul.  the first few days upon her arrival in 2008, krystal preferred to stay by herself and practiced without company, and maybe it was that that brought jay to her.  one day, during their lunch break from ballet rehearsal, jay willingly sat beside the other girl and the two stayed that way for the next few days.  after the fourth day, they began to speak to each other, soft voices and only slight signs of emotion on their faces.  soon min was brought into the new friendship and she just made the other two open up.  nowadays krystal is more open, though she still prefers her own company rather than others, but their soft friendship stayed the same: pretty silent, but deep conversations, small smiles and ever smaller laughter, and minimal actions, however they're close nonetheless.  |  image

Rival:

rival.  song 'victoria' qian  |  20 years old  |  frenemy  |  student at korea national university of arts & ballet dancer at korea national ballet  |  idol  |  qian, or victoria (as she prefers to be called), was the first one jay met at korea national ballet, and they got along pretty well for the first few months.  but her rising talent made qian despise the younger; she did not want to be replaced up top.  jay never really found out about this growing hatred the other had for her until she was 17, and at her worst, when she heard qian talking about her behind her back.  jay began to reciprocate the feeling, but they've never been violent towards each other.  they treat each other as best friends who grew apart would, and that's the best jay could ask for.

I’m Original~

Plotline Applying for: i will try to fix you.  ( blue couple )

Personality:

jaeyeon, who answers to jay, is your stereotypical ballet dancer, look wise anyway.  she isn't your tallest girl, but neither is she short, her limbs are lengthy, hips squared, petite waist, small face, long neck.  but unlike most professional dancers who are humble about their skills, she likes to tell it as it is.  she knows she's good, and she is not afraid to say it.  but confidence does not mean arrogance or ignorance to jay, for in her mind it's being sure of herself and her own abilities, and that she is.

what else she is is clever.  smoothness, charm, eloquence -- those are her main points, points that she believes make her look like a capable woman.  she's one of those savy, intelligent people who can talk circles around other people when she wants to with simple manipulations of words.  she kind of has a weird sense of humor; she can make saying "the frogs in my pants are tickling me" with her infamous poker face never flickering.  she's terribly sarcastic, more than a little bit snarky, and can act unfazed when the situation calls for it.  after all, her wit is her strongest attribute.

internally, however, this isn't the case.  jay doubts herself.  she's tormented by a perpetual insecurity that she's worthless -- she blames being a dancer for this, because even the closest friends can be you worst enemies.  no matter how many more hours she dances, or how many pointe shoes she goes through, there's always someone better, and in jay's world, there's absolutely no room to be second place.  she doesn't like talking about her problems to anyone, and she prefers her own company to anyone else's.  she doesn't like talking about her problems to anyone, no matter how upset she may be because opening up is uncomfortable and she will not delude herself into thinking people actually care.  she's fiercely independent and intensely private, and she certainly is not about to let her life story be published and put up on the bulletin board by the school's entrance.

Likes:

{ big dogs -- st. bernards and huskies are just the most adorable things
{ vintage items

{ beaches -- it's the view and the peacefulness she usually goes for, not so much the swimming
{ tea -- to heck with growing taller because she's never getting to an ideal 170 cm anyway

Dislikes:

{ nicknames -- she hates calling people oppa and unni unless she truly has to
{ comparisons -- being compared to others isn't exactly a dancer's most favorite thing in the world
{ losing -- again, being a dancer gave her this trait due to the thousands of competitions she's been to
{ birds and cats -- just because birds are nasty creatures and cats are too ... cat-ie
{ confrontations -- for the most obvious reasons
{ small dogs -- nasty little creatures, small dogs
{ spicy and bitter foods
{ roller coasters
{ clowns
{ lip gloss -- she's never particularly taken a liking into lip gloss for the simple fact that she hates the thick consistency on her lips

Hobbies:

What are your plans after high school?:

{ college -- it's been in her mind since sophomore year and she could never manage to shake it off.  with the many people she holds close to her heart residing in south korea, the thought of moving anywhere else really scared her.  jay took the death of her boyfriend as a sign, however, and applied for penn state in america.  she hopes to get in, though it's highly unlikely, because seeing the things sunggyu enjoyed to do with her always felt like a stab in the heart.

{ stage -- if she doesn't make it into her first choice college, jay would most likely take the offer her ballet company has been prying her about to travel around the world for their cinderella and romeo and juliet tours.  each trip takes at least a year to complete, and even two years are enough, just to get away from kkum-gu.

What is your biggest fear?:  jay fears the loss of another loved one the most.  coming to a close tie, she fears not being able to just get away from the world that's already come crashing down on her.

What are you most dedicated to?:  studies, of course, but ballet is a close second.  after all, either could be her ticket out of south korea.

What do you want to do with your life?:  it isn't as much as what she wants to do with her life rather than what she wants to accomplish with her life.  throughout her life span, jay would like to feel true happiness, to be able to pat herself on the back and just say 'you've made it.'  she expects herself to accomplish large obstacles.

What is the thing you want to do most before you die?:  to find true happiness.

I’m Genie for You, Boy

Love Interest: park chanyeol of exo(k)

Age/Birthdate: 18 years old / 11/27/1994

Personality:

so chanyeaol might be the most sought out male academically and physically due to his high grades (number one of their grade) and his basketball career, but in truth he's nothing like the sophisticated image he's brought up for himself.  not really.  he's blunt, sarcastic, and somewhat cocky on top of it.  that's not to say he isn't likable, because he totally is.  so much so it's ridiculous, in fact.  there's just something about his cynicism and ersion that makes him instantly recognizable.  he tells it like it is, which jay can't decide whether she likes or not.  it doesn't seem like it at times, but he cares deeply about people he's close to and will do anything to keep them from being hurt.  his long list of past girlfriends begs to differ.

How did/will you meet?:

let's face it.  chanyeol is probably the best looking male in a twenty-mile radius, and that combined with his high iq can only equal to fangirls.  seeing as her best friend was one of those fangirls despite her boyfriend, lee donghoon, ("it is not cheating, jay-ah, i've never made any physical contact with him.") it was inevitable for her not to meet this park chanyeol.  anyway, lunch is practically his own fan sign and, knowing this, chanyeol bought his lunch as quick as possible and made his way to his car.

oh, if only things ended up this way.  that way jay would have never met him.

but of course, when is luck ever on her side?  with this in mind, that day she got the first 89% on a quiz dr. choi, the ap physics teacher, had given the day before.  it was already a bad day to begin with, and everybody knew to never get on choi jaeyeon's bad side on a bad day.  apparently, park chanyeol did not.  without much thought, he quickly cut her on line to grab his lunch, and let's just say choi jaeyeon was not at all charmed by the charming smile he gave her along with the question to 'please just let me cut you this one time'.  ignoring that annoying bubbling feeling in the pit of stomach, jay stood her ground and ordered him to the back of the line.

needless to say, chanyeol followed the scary woman's orders and walked to the back of the line, with a new target in mind: the small, skinny girl with blazing brown eyes.

Relationship:

she likes to say they're academic rivals because she wants that number one spot so bad in order to get into penn state, but he says they're friends.  in truth they're neither and jay just tries everything to get as far away from him as possible.

How do you interact?:

his 'relationship' with jay is kind of complicated.  they're just so different that it's quite difficult to tell if they truly do hate each other, are just normal academic rivals, or madly in love.  they're snarky towards each other but there's truly some genuine affection underneath, at least on his part anyway.  jay just wants to do everything in her power to keep him away because just the mere thought of him ... it hurts.  so much.  jay is afraid sunggyu might never forgive her for even just thinking about another man.  chanyeol takes the hint and tries to stay away, yet fate is just against that.

Back Up Love Interest:  lee taemin of shinee

Age/Birthdate: 18 years old / 07/28/1994

Personality: same as chanyeol.

How did/will you meet?: same as chanyeol.

Relationship:  same as chanyeol.

How do you interact?: same as chanyeol.

Baby, Goodnight

Comments: otl, i'm so sorry for getting this in so late. ;~;

Scene Requests:

maybe a scene where jaeyeon tells chanyeol to just give up on her and leave her alone, but he refuses and follows her anyway.  she just gives up on telling him off asks him to meet her at kkum-gu's cemetary during the weekend.  chanyeol would be confused as to why she'd ask that of him, but agrees anyway.  there they visit sunggyu's grave and she tells him their whole story, ending her speech by asking him to just leave her be to move on from her love's death.  he understands and this event is what makes him stay away, afraid of hurting her again.

Other: heaven by ailee
