Ulzzang/Actress name: Jung Roo

Back-up Ulzzang/Actress name: Choi Seohee

Style: Minri loves baggy clothes, but that still look nice. She adores fluffy sweaters and pretty much anything in pastels. She is incredibly thin but not very tall, so she likes to wear things that are a little loose on her body to give her a little more shape. She loves girly things like dresses and skirts, but can sometimes on a Saturday be seen wearing skinny jeans with a loose pink top and strappy sandals, or something of that nature.

» your magic has trapped me

Your chosen storyline: The Ant

Back-up Storyline: The Rose of Sharon

Brief Personality: Minri grew up with a pretty easy life. She’s a daddy’s girl first and foremost, and she and her mother both love fashion (though she always felt her older half-sister was favored), and also tries to be a good noona to Sungri. She has tons of infectious energy and lots of natural enthusiasm. When she gets excited about something, she can have the confidence and passion to inspire all those around you. However, she often loses interest quickly and can become discouraged. This cycle happened a lot growing up: first with violin, then with ballet, then soccer, then cheerleading, then poetry. The only thing that she has completely loved the entire way through is baking. She could not imagine a life without sugar, and her father always made a point that the reason that Minri was so sweet was because she consumed so much of it.

However, Minri is not always “sweet.” She’ll use her adorable charm to her advantage sometimes, often to get out of doing more work than she has to. She loves her business, and dreams of success one day, but she sometimes isn’t willing to take the steps to get there. She is prone to laziness, and sometimes only does what she can do easily, which is bake.

Minri hates worrying, and tends to not let anything throw her off-balance. She believes that if she does her part, anything else will fall into place, and even if it doesn’t, she can rely on her family to pick her up if she’s knocked down. She doesn’t like being stressed so if something should come up that is potentially worrisome, she’ll usually ignore it or wait for it to solve itself. Despite her energy for the things she likes and the lazy attitude towards the things she doesn’t, she hates confrontations and would prefer everything be happy and for negative things to blow over. However, not all people are like her in that respect, so she’s lost a couple of friendships along the way with people who didn’t like the fact that she was ignoring whatever problems they had. If she’s under a considerable amount of pressure that even her go-with-the-flow personality can’t handle, Minri will often shut down or have a nervous breakdown of sorts. This is the time where she depends on others the most, when she can’t seem to do anything for herself, and she doesn’t want the responsibility of fixing it all. She has trouble motivating herself if there is not a direct consequence or reward for her actions; she can’t think too well in the long-term.

» dear my family

Family Background:

Minri was the first child of her mother and father, and her mother’s second child (she has a half-sister from her mother’s previous marriage). Their family was middle class, living in a good-enough house with enough space for Minri, her parents, and her siblings to live comfortably. Minri was close to her parents, though she felt shadowed by her older sister Nari, who was seven years older. Minri was never neglected in her family. Occasionally chastised for her laziness, perhaps, but her childhood was generally happy. The most tragic thing that occurred in her childhood was when her grandmother, who had cared for her and her brother afterschool until her parents got off work, died in her sleep when Minri was eleven. Nari was already in college by that time, and Sungri was only eight.

Minri was lazy from the start, hating to do things she wasn’t good at, like most school subjects, and a lot of extra-curriculars. Her mother often tried to find things that might interest her, but to no avail. Her favorite things to do on weekends were to stay up late reading fashion magazines, sleep in, and either eat or cook or both. Gaeun, Minri’s mother, tried to turn Minri’s love of fashion into something productive by having her work part-time in her shop, but even though Minri was enthusiastic at first, she grew bored with the monotonous work schedule and then quit. After that failed attempt, Minri’s dad began encouraging her to make meals for the family, which she did quite well, but her favorite thing to make was desserts. After she graduated high school she felt pressured by her family to be like her sister, who had majored in business, so she studied business at college for awhile before transferring to culinary school when she was 20, and finding a passion for the pastry arts.

Family members:

Yoo Gaeun | 54 | Owner of a small consignment shop in Seoul | OC| Mother; Minri and Gaeun usually got along while Minri was growing up, even though she was obviously closer with her father. Gaeun had grown up in a wealthy household and got almost everything she wanted, but wanted to instill a strong work ethic in her children. Nari, Minri’s older sister, took to this expectation well and eventually went on to be a successful businesswoman. Gaeun and Minri both love fashion, however. That’s one thing they’d always gotten along regarding. Minri’s first job was working in her mother’s consignment shop, but she soon got bored and took longer breaks than needed to get lunch or drift through the bakeries, just staring at the food. Minri wasn’t fired, however, because she was Gaeun’s daughter, but quit of her own free will because it interfered with her cooking classes. Now, Gaeun and Minri are closer since Minri has found her passion in life, and Gaeun is accepting of that.

Ha Jaebum | 58 | Financial Advisor of Gaeun’s consignment shop | OC | Father; Minri was always closest with her dad. He did not pressure her as much as Gaeun did about doing productive things, but he still encouraged her in whatever she did and chastised her whenever she was lazy with schoolwork. He’s the one that encouraged her to start cooking after she showed interest in it, aside from her grandmother. Jaebum was never a very good cook, but he still wanted his daughter to learn what interested her, so for her twelfth birthday he took her out to a bookstore and she was allowed to pick out any five that she wanted the most, and he was not too surprised when she picked out three dessert books, one on bread, and one on cookies. Today, Jaebum and Minri are still incredibly close. Sometimes he will drop in when he’s not working to “see how business is doing.” Minri always has two chocolate chip walnut cookies (his favorite) under the counter in case he does.

Park Nari | 29 | Vice President of Spring Rose Cosmetics | OC | Half-Sister; Nari was always talented at everything, or so it seemed. Minri grew up jealous of her older sister, who she only saw every other week, but for the whole week. Nari was naturally good at school, especially math, Minri’s least-favorite subject. Nari offered to help sometimes when they were children, but Minri constantly pushed her away so Nari gave up and the two even started to dislike each other. However, she graduated school when Minri was eleven, so she figured that her jealousy problems would lessen, but when she majored in business and went on to be a vice president of a large corporation, Minri’s self-esteem in high school plummeted. Their relationship isn’t “all-better” now, but since Minri has found her passion in life, she doesn’t have as much childish jealousy as she used to, and the two are starting to get a little closer.

Ha Sungri | 19 | College Student/Majoring in Business | OC | Brother; Sungri and Minri were closest when they were children. He is three years younger than her, and she was his protector of sorts growing up in elementary school when he got bullied for wearing glasses or not wanting to kill things like butterflies or frogs. He’s always been a peaceful child, never liking conflict. He was equally close to Nari and Minri growing up, even though Nari was ten years older. Sungri is the only member of the Ha family who is fluent in English, because his current major is international business. He wants to work as a translator for a large company, to help improve Korea’s business ventures in other countries. He is also a fan of art, and if he had not majored in business, would have become an animator. Not many people know about his drawings, but he’ll sometimes scan them and email them to Minri, who wishes she could draw as well as her brother.

Jung Hae Shil | 66 (deceased) | Stay-at-home Mother/Grandmother | OC | Grandmother; She only knew one grandparent, her maternal grandmother, who showered her, Nari, and Sungri with love. She would make pink velvet cupcakes every afternoon when Minri and Sungri came to her house after school to wait on their parents, because she knew pink was Minri’s favorite color. When Sungri complained about eating pink things so much, Minri would help her grandmother make green or blue velvet cupcakes for him. It was from her grandmother that Minri gained her love of baking. When she died when Minri was eleven, she locked herself in her room, and refused to make or eat any-color velvet cupcakes until a couple years ago.

» i get you better

Bestfriend(s):

Cho Kyuhyun | 23 | Assistant Manager of Sucre | Idol, Super Junior | Best Friend; He’s essentially Minri’s right-hand-man. He’s always taking charge of situations even when Minri insists on doing it another way. He doesn’t always get to do what he wants, obviously, because ultimately it’s Minri that is in charge of the restaurant. He’s very headstrong and helps Minri with most of the drastic decisions that she doesn’t like to make. He always has to have a word in. But then again, he and Minri’s personalities complement each other nicely when it comes to running the restaurant. They usually have a friendly rivalry, seeing whose idea works better with things, but sometimes when Minri gets overstressed or just really really lazy she’ll hand things over to Kyuhyun.

Friend(s):

Christy Lam | 21 | Cashier at Sucre | OC | Friend; If Sucre had waitresses, Christy would be the one who always drops the tray or brings the wrong order to the table. She’s a Taiwanese-American student who’s been studying in South Korea for almost a year now, and befriended Minri when she was opening her business. She gets frazzled very easily, and drops almost everything she’s handed, like change. However, she does her job well enough that Minri has not had to fire her, and Christy’s incredibly hardworking spirit and loyal attitude also lead her to believe that the business probably wouldn’t do as well without Christy. Besides, Minri hates running the cash register.

Tao (Huang Zitao) | 22 | Pastry Chef | Idol, EXO-M | Tao is the quiet but talented pastry chef who doesn’t mind working nights. He’ll always quietly follow orders and help in other areas beside pastry when needed (like cleaning up after a particularly busy day). He is one of few pastry chefs who doesn’t mind bread duty, because he loves the stillness of the early morning. He and Minri get along well, but sometimes both are too uncertain over what they want to do. Tao has been friends with Minri since junior high, so he knows some embarrassing tidbits from the past that others don’t. These occasionally come out in a mumbled sarcastic voice if she does something he doesn’t particularly like. He can take leadership when necessary, but prefers the sidelines. It’s also no secret that he’s got a crush on Christy, a fact that Minri exploits to no end to keep Tao from teasing her.

» all my love is for you

Love interest: Choi Minho, SHINee

Age: 23

Job: Delivery-boy/College Student majoring in Culinary Arts

Relationship with you: Minho has a gentleman persona. He cares for Minri quite a bit, even when she doesn’t seem to notice or fully appreciate his extra help. He’ll sometimes stop by when he’s not working, and help her with restocking the shelves or random handyman-ish things that need to be done around the shop. He still isn’t entirely sure what to do with his life, but he does like cooking, and took up a delivery job with his father’s company to help him get through culinary school, which his parents will not support. His mother baked a lot when he was a kid, so he felt drawn to the shop before he even met Minri, but afterwards he had a reason for staying. She finds him handsome but does not think too much else of his kind nature towards her, because boys did not typically ask her out in high school or college. However, affections towards each other are definitely evident, and even prevalent in how they act towards each other.

Back-up Love interest: Jung Yunho, TVXQ

Age: 24

Job: Journalist/Restaurant Reviewer

Relationship with you: Yunho doesn’t like sweets. Actually, he hates them. He was incredibly reluctant to come into Sucre, but the newspaper was doing a special on bakeries and sweet shops around the area, so he decided to explore the little pink corner shop. He came for a job, but Minri somehow convinced him to try a macaroon. She gains interest in things quickly, and he was definitely something to have interest in. She had a crush on him almost instantly, and when he gave her restaurant only three stars out of five, she insisted he come back and write a better review. Normally she doesn’t let things like that bother her, but because it was him, the review got incredibly under her skin for some reason. They are having a competition of sorts at the moment, over who will admit that the other is right first, but what will probably end up happening is that one will find out that they are in love with the other, but both will be too stubborn to admit it.

» a 'good' bye

Anything more?: I have an idea for a scene, if Minri is picked, and if Minho is her love interest: Perhaps since he is a delivery serviceman and she cannot drive, there could be a scene of her attempting to teach her how to drive? It could be funny and cute, I don’t know.

Comment(s): I can’t wait for you to write this story! I love reading cute stories so much, and the concept is just lovely J
