She was first discovered in 2006 (when she was 13) when she was going to school one day and she performed at a school concert (she was dancing) and later on she was recommended by a person who worked at SM to join the company. She trained under the SM Casting System with SNSD's Seohyun, this is why they are close. For her audition she danced and rapped.
Her parents agreed to her being casted by SM since they were vocal and dance teachers.
