What should a writer do if she's feeling forsaken & under-appreciated?

Are you here? Really? You visited. Good.

Okay, sit down and let's talk, ok?

BTW, LOL, 100% of your poll-answerers said No.

But if you're still here, reading this; I guess it's because you want more opinions.

*raises hand* OOH PICK ME PICK ME I HAVE OPINIONS!

Now listen to me if you want a sincere, honest opinion & you can stand unminced words.

And also if you have time because this is one heck of a long blog post. LOL sorry.

First of all, you have over a THOUSAND views you said?

Alright, I’ll give you some time to be thankful here before I proceed to talking about MY fic as comparison.

Are you thankful yet? You need to be, because...

MY THREE fics (series) have a TOTAL of thousand views (maybe less) & a total of I don't know... 13? subscribers?

And my Tumblr *laughs* Other people whom I  follow and follow me have hundreds and thousands of followers but I have like... two?

AND I CAN'T CARE LESS.

Why? Because...

Sure, there may be times when you feel underappreciated, like you believe yourself to be funny, to be creative, to have the talent to write, but not many people have enough faith in you that you don't feel like continuing.

I felt like this too. I think I'm better than most writers I've read (that's my opinion & I'm sure you have yours as 'talent' is subjective to one's own taste) but nobody else seems to realize that.

If that's the case, maybe you should promote more? But it's fine because a thousand views isn't really an easy feat. I know I haven't gotten a thousand views yet. *cries nah not really crying*

But like I said, I don't care abt views, as I write because I LOVE to.

I write for myself, to express my views, to propagate my ideas & to see my daydreams fruit into stories.

I do it for ME.

I'm sure you know who JK Rowling is. Did she just SUDDENLY become a super gazillionaire after one book? Did people just SUDDENLY love her?

NO. She went through different publishers, different people who can't appreciate the things she wrote, different people who just DIDN'T LIKE IT.

As much as I wish we could, we CAN'T FORCE people to like what we write or to even read it in the first place; because we are different people. We like different things, we have different ways of thinking.

So, to answer the title/question above; if you write to become famous overnight, so that you lots of people like you, maybe you should create a new account and try your luck again. Or just quit writing all together because that RARELY happens.

But if you, like me, write because you love to, etc. etc., continue. Because there are still ppl who (like me) appreciate your work & love it. We don't care if your fic hasn't reached a million views or if it's not published into a book yet, we care because you're simply writing it.

And I think it's kinda mean if you disregard your already-reading-and-subscribing-your-fic AFF users over the people who don't care about you.

My requests fanfic... I don't even know, I think even the people who requested don't read it.
But still I continue (even if veeeeery slowly) because they requested, they subscribed, they had faith in me in the beginning to write it.

And the people who actually read it commented (even if it's only one person) but that's okay because I'm still doing it; even if it's for just that one person. (Thank you, dear reader! *throws love and hugs to you*)

The measure of how good a writer is isn't by the amount of readers they have; a writer is a good writer if they can read back what they have been writing, and can identify what mistakes they made and continue to improve. If you have passion for writing, share the passion with other passionate, like-minded writers/readers too.

-starrym-

Okay?

Now, thanks for reading this through. This is my view, you can have yours and do what you like.

I'm sure I'm gonna feel like giving up writing at some point too, and I'm gonna read this post when I do that.

And sorry if what I wrote hurt you. It was nothing personal AGAINST you or anyone else.

And sorry for this long long long post (and the liberal use of capital letters)

So you said you’re feeling better because of what the others said, right?

I’m really happy for you and I hope that what I just wrote didn’t make you feel worse or anything.

I wish you the best of luck! <3

This post made me feel better about myself as a writer x3

I feel the same way. I write for myself and improve with each fic. (I didn't read the poll, but I'm assuming it said "give up") I wouldn't give up on something that I can see myself having potential in. Writing is one of my few passions that I don't want to give up with. (It's also good for venting when no one else will listen :3) Stay strong random AFF'er! FIGHTING!
