K-Pop Star Audition

Ok, so...i'm going to be participating in the K-Pop Star Season 2 auditions in London on saturday. I sent my application off a few days ago, and i just got a confirmation email, with this attached to it.

Europe Audition Applicant Consent Form

○ This audition (including the auditions for the following stages) is for the production of , the show (“Show”) produced by SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System).

○ The Show can and will be used in various forms, including being aired by or sent to any international media. The usage of the Show is not limited to the video footage; the usage includes all derivative works such as the business of commercializing the Show, publication, image service, etc.

○ SBS has exclusive intellectual property rights, including but not limited to copyright and neighboring copyright to all visual and audio contents (“Contents”) created by your participation in the audition.

○ Related to the usage of the Contents by SBS and companies that are partners of SBS, you consent to their use of your demonstration, portrait, name, personal history, and all other information on the application and audio or visual materials you submit with the application.

You agree not to pursue legal claims in either the civil or criminal courts (including filing an injunction banning the Show from being broadcasted, demanding arbitration from the Press Arbitration Commission, etc.) for any grounds, including defamation, for the results and effects from the viewers’ and netizens’ reactions and their comments after SBS edits, changes, cuts out, rearranges, selects, subtitles (OAP: On-Air Promotion), revises, or modifies the footage and broadcasts it.

For the production and usage of the Show, SBS will film and use interviews with the applicants’ friends and family members. You will guarantee consent from the people involved in this process.

○ If you are applying as a member of a group, it is possible that only certain member(s) of the group, and not the whole group, will advance throughout the auditions.

○ You cannot participate in other shows or auditions for shows that are similar to the Show both during the audition and while the Show is being aired. If you do so, you will be automatically disqualified from the audition and held responsible for any problems arising thereof.

○ Prior to or during participation in this audition, if you have signed a contract (or have a verbal contract or provisional contract) with an entertainment management agency, you may suffer a disadvantage, and you will be held responsible for any problems arising thereof.

You may not protest the results of the judges’ decisions, and you may not disclose any information about the progress of the auditions to others.

○ You must participate sincerely in the process (meetings, living in the temporary housing with other contestants, etc.) of the auditions and the Show according to the schedule determined by the production crew hereafter. In the case that you advance to the finals, you must participate in related activities hosted by SBS, regardless of whether or not you win, after the Show is over.

I hereby verify that I am participating in the audition with a full understanding of the above terms. I give my full consent to these terms.

I've highlighted some bits in this....more than a consent form, this is more of a contract. I find some of the things in this quite scary, tbh.

I haven't even started the audition process yet, and i'm wondering whether this is the right thing to do or not. The bits i find the worst are...

○ You agree not to pursue legal claims in either the civil or criminal courts for any grounds, including defamation, for the results and effects from the                       viewers’ and netizens’ reactions and their comments after SBS edits, changes, cuts out, rearranges, selects, subtitles (OAP: On-Air Promotion), revises, or    modifies the footage and broadcasts it.

DAFFUUQ?! So basically, they could defame me, do whatever they want with the filming, change the footage and air it, change the subtitles to something i didnt say and air that....and i would be able to do nothing.

○ For the production and usage of the Show, SBS will film and use interviews with the applicants’ friends and family members. You will guarantee consent from the people involved in this process.

Uhm...if my parents found out that i was even thinking of auditioning...haha...well...........let's just say, you won't be getting anymore updates from me....ever. O_O They want me to GUARANTEE consent from them so that they can interview them. LOL - funny people. Although, they might get an interview from my parents on how they murdered me...

In the case that you advance to the finals, you must participate in related activities hosted by SBS, regardless of whether or not you win, after the Show is over.

Uhm so....in the case that i ever got through the auditions AND made it to the finals, they could make me do whatever they wanted as long as it is labelled 'activity', whether i win or not...

And that little box at the end... fortunately for me, i'm over 18 so i'm safe for now, but my sister is taking the audition too, and she's 16...meaning she has to get that little box signed....by a  legal guardian. That means one of our parents. Well i know for a fact that she will not be getting that signature. At least not from my parents. But the point is, if she doesnt get that signature, does that mean she cant do the audition? Of course, i might have to *cough* 'replicate' *cough* my mom's signature on there (which i had to learn for naughty deeds done in school when i didnt want to show my parents my school diary) but that box is a problem.

When we went to the YG auditions back in June...they wanted consent from a legal guardian too, but that was for kids ages 11 and under, which is understandable because they really are that young. But for people aged atleast 16 and over, i don't think that should be neccesary. Being a broadcasting company, and working with entertainment agencies, they should know that not everyone who participates in these auditions will have the consent of their parents....

Well ranting over.

Let me know what you guys think!
