All AFFers know that
An algorithm selects which stories are to be featured based on the number of subscribers and views.
And we have agreed that the word 'featured' makes us all go loca because each of us has our own criteria of what is good and what is bad. And what is good should be featured. But that isn't the case.
The algorithm measures popularity and not writing ability; how many readers like and read a story.
The problem before, or the distress felt by most AFFers before, was caused by featured stories having cliche plots with stereotype characters. Now, it is due to trivia fics or fact fics.
What is wrong with these fics? As far as the algorithm is concerned, nothing is wrong with them. They have a title, a description, a foreword, chapters and most important of all, subscribers.
As long as a fic has all these elements (even without a foreword), it has a chance of getting featured, regardless of content. Karma fics and contest fics could get featured as well.
Now, unless we could find a way to tell the algorithm to just choose from a certain pool of fics, those that are true stories with plot, characters, setting, conflict, etc., we just have to embrace life and accept that we couldn't impose our opinions on others. We cannot tell them which fics to subscribe.
Question: do these fics cite the sources of the images, vids and trivias they post?
Anyway, let's move on and not let these minor issues stress us.
