Hyun Rin has a very conservative and feminine style. Most, if not all, of the clothes in her closet are very light in shade - completely pastel, so to speak. She's not too fond of shorts or jeans, and prefers skirts and dresses over them any day. Her style could be considered almost "Catholic school girl stereotype" if not for the short skirts and moderately heeled shoes. Hyun Rin owns a lot of long sleeved blouses, sweaters and cardigans, she finds them comfortable and warm - unsurprisingly alike with her personality.

Extra:

  • Infinity earrings ; pair with Dongwoo.
  • Charm bracelet ; a gift from her older brother for her birthday five years ago, she's been collecting a charm for every year since then.

Volume Up

Personality:

"The vibrant shining star, forever dazzling." It's kind of hard, borderline impossible, to dislike Hyun Rin, mostly because she is just such a big bubble of sunshine and rainbows and everything positive. So much that it actually makes some people guilty whenever her optimism shines. Hyun Rin is just very charismatic. She's hard not to like because she's just very... bright and vibrant, like a shining star. She's never without a smile on her face, and prefers to laugh at the smallest things than do nothing. She's the type of girl who appreciates every little thing in life, brightening someone's day can easily complete her own - Hyun Rin is the type who could be considered as a martyr, always willing to give everything for another's happiness.

"The child who smiles so purely, so blindingly bright." | She's a child, to put it simply. Though her patience is surprisingly long, and she has an endless amount of second chances ready to give away in her arms, Hyun Rin can still be considered a little girl. Hyun Rin is quite sensitive, actually. She's easily worked up and gets emotional over the slightest things that could be considered good - like passing a test she studied hard for, or someone remembering her birthday. She's the type of girl who appreciates the little things, and is grateful for every single moment.  It could be said that Hyun Rin just seems too naive, to the point of foolishness even, but it is maybe her charm point as well. She's too honest, and too naive, and to those who are exposed to the evils of the world, they have a certain attachment for people like her, for the innocent ones. Hyun Rin is basically a young adult with the child of a heart.

"The honest girl who does not believe in love, or so she says." | It's exactly because of this very charismatic personality of hers that attracts a lot of people, and in turn, a lot of suitors as well. Hyun Rin doesn't consider herself as "popular" so to say, but simply one of the friendliest in her class. Perhaps it is because of that trait of hers that a lot of people { mostly men } mistake her kindness for something more, attraction to them, so to say. In a sense, it is actually most people's fault for mistaking her nice attitude for something else, however, how Hyun Rin rejects every single offer made to her in a promise for more than a simple friendship is cold-hearted - almost cruel, really. Because Hyun Rin has almost absolute zero interest in regards to a romatic relationship, every single guy who has been brave { or foolish? } enough to ask her has been rejected. If she doesn't like them, she tells them honestly; if she likes them, she tells them she has no interest. Hyun Rin can never bring herself to lie, not to anyone and especially not to herself, but there are actually times when, unknowingly, her fear gets the better of her, and she ends up rejecting someone so harshly without meaning to hurt them. And perhaps the smile that she keeps on her face when she says it is the only thing that is worse.

"The lady with the golden heart, the woman with an angel's smile." | It's weird though, that not even those whom she had rejected does not even bear a grudge on her. Perhaps it's because they are able to see how sincere she is when she says "I don't want to hurt you, so I'm sorry but I don't feel the same." and perhaps because of that, they cannot fully hate her. Maybe dislike a little, or they might be irritated for a long while, but no one can say that they hate Hyun Rin. She just simply has too much of an honest heart, they've come too accept. Too innocent, too pure to be true when this is real life - but perhaps that is what is so very endearing about her. The fact that through everything, Hyun Rin remains to be the girl with the golden heart - unwavering and unrelenting.

Persona: Bright Ball of Sunshine ; White Paper

History/Background:

Hyun Rin comes from a normal family, of normal stature, living in a normal neighborhood, and with nothing out of the ordinary. Her father was a salary man, her mother was a simple manager in a moderately-known restaurant, and her older brother was a typical older brother. She was the ordinary maknae - doted on and rarely told anything that was deemed too serious. Hyun Rin was not particularly close with her mother, but her father often took the time to play with her despite his busy schedules. Her brother Joongki on the other hand, always liked to , especially when she started going to school, but he was always very protective of Hyun Rin and the girl had absolutely no doubt that her brother loved her. They were as ordinary as a family could get, to be honest.

When she was around six though, her parents had suddenly agreed on separating. They said nothing to her, no other explanation save for the statement that "two people cannot continue to live with each other if there is no more love between them". Her mother took custody of her, and her father managed to get Joongki. Since they agreed on the separation, her father would be staying in Incheon, and Hyun Rin and her mother would be moving to Seoul. It wasn't the ideal arrangement as both children could not agree with the situation and what it meant for them, but it was the only way, or so they said. Hyun Rin didn't understand it at all; sure, her parents had fought, but hadn't everyone? It confused her a lot, especially when her mother told her that she and Hyun Rin's father did not love each other anymore. The divorce was finalized when she was in the 3rd grade. Though the separation was fulfilled, Joongki and Hyun Rin often contact each other still, and she frequently calls her father. Hyun Rin spends half of the summer with her father back in Incheon.

Hyun Rin was not a particularly nosy child, however she often kept asking to herself if her mother was really not capable of loving her father anymore. From the start of her elementary days, until before she entered middle school, Hyun Rin had been pre-occupied with these thoughts, especially since she had found her mother crying herself to sleep more than once.

It was because of this situation that Hyun Rin is not really sure of her stand with love - though she spreads and gives much of it, she's unsure when it comes to receiving. Also considering the fact that became friends with Dongwoo, who did not have any luck with romance, having his girlfriend cheat on him with another guy { twice }, Hyun Rin had unknowingly become wary of anything crossing friendships. The thought of falling in love, and making a fool of yourself, hurting yourself, doing everything you could for another person's happiness at the expense of your own - it was not a thought she fully understood.

Family:

  • Jang Junho || 44 || Awkward ; loving ; her secret sunshine || { Appa } ; "Appa, you're so weird! Stop doing those silly faces~!"
    • { full view of personality } ; Junho is a very loving father, sometimes quite awkward because of the generation difference, but still works hard in order to make his children happy. Perhaps Hyun Rin had gotten her bright personality from her father, as they seem to be the same - always smiling and without a hint of anger in their faces, ever.
    • { full view of relationship } ; Junho regrets even separating from his only daughter, especially since he wasn't a witness of her growth into a young adult. In turn, he does everything he can in order to be the father he never was - though it is a bit difficult, especially since Junho treats her like a little girl despite her age.
  • Jang Yoon Na || 40 || Hardworking ; appears strict ; her shoulder to lean on || { Umma } ; "Umma, I managed to pass English - oh, actually, I almost failed, my score was almost on the border... but it was really hard, and almost all of the class failed - I understand. I'll work harder!"
    • { full view of personality } ; Ever since she became a single mother, Yoon Na has been working harder than ever to provide for herself and Hyun Rin. She may seem strict at times, but is only pushing Hyun Rin to the do her best. Dongwoo often tells Hyun Rin that her mother is scary, but also frequently says that Yoon Na is only that way because she loves her daughter a lot.
    • { full view of relationship } ; They have a very weird relationship. One moment, Yoon Na will be scolding Hyun Rin for doing something idiotic, the next, she would be glaring at whoever made her little girl sad. Yoon Na always wants for Hyun Rin to do her best though, and often pushes the young girl to her limits. To others, it might seem a bit insensitive, however, Hyun Rin knows that Yoon Na is only doing what she thinks is best for her daughter.
  • Jang Joongki || 20 || Weirdo ; protective ; her shield || { Oppa } ; "Oppa, I'm not a little girl anymore!"
    • { full view of personality } ; Joongki is a tad bit 4D - he changes moods so easily it's kind of hard to keep up. From this, to that - everything depends on how he is. He's somewhat childish, and protective of what he thinks is his { which somehow includes his family and important ones }.
    • { full view of relationship } ; Though she and Joongki did not grow up with each other, Joongki still has very "brotherly vibes" about him. He's very protective of her, and is quite wary of the constant males in Hyun Rin's life { i.e. Dongwoo; Siwan; etc. } to the point where he openly threatens them { playfully } about the consequences if they try to make a move on his little sister.

 Friends:

  • Jang Dongwoo || 18 || Bright ; bubbly ; her male-self || { Best friends } ; "Yah, Jang Dongwoo! Don't fall asleep on my lap, that looks weird!" ; calls him "Dongwoo" or "Dinowoo"
    • { full view of personality } ; Dongwoo is practically Hyun Rin's male version. He's equally optimistic, and very playful in nature. He's a tad bit restless, but is easily considered as the life of the party with his ever present smile and friendly attitude. He gives up his image, usually being seen as a fool because of it, however, he really is just too much of an innocent young man. His heart is about as pure as it can get, and his honesty is almost guilt-wracking. Dongwoo is just a man with a heart of gold.
    • { full view of relationship } ; Hyun Rin and Dongwoo are often mistaken as a couple because of their closeness with each other, but they simply laugh it off without a care in the world. They met during the third grade of elementary, so it isn't a wonder that they know so much about each other, and can tell without a word if there's anything wrong with the other. They often banter with each other, though all is fairly harmless and quite comical to watch - usually, their quarrels are somewhat "staged," rather, they know that they're only joking with each other, if only to make another person happy.
  • Im Woongjae { Siwan } || 19 || Responsible ; mature ; her knight in cotton shirts and jeans || { Oppa-dongsaeng ; sunbae-hoobae } ; "Siwan oppa, I swear this is the last time I'll ask for help...!" ; calls him "Siwan oppa" or "Woongjae oppa"
    • { full view of personality } ; Siwan is a responsible and mature guy, though admittedly quite the shy type and will not speak to people he is not close with unless spoken to. Usually very reserved and only opens up to those he fully trusts, Siwan is what could be considered as the perfect gentleman. He's very sweet, even without fully meaning to, which makes him pretty popular with the ladies.
    • { full view of relationship } ; Hyun Rin sees him as nothing other than a pseudo-older brother, though at times even their closest friends mistake her friendliness with him as a sign that she might have a crush on Siwan. That's not really the case - she simply relies a lot on Siwan to the point that he is the first guy she turns to when it comes to anything trivial. Hyun Rin constantly tells Siwan that the times she'll ask for a favor would be the last, however it never really follows through. Siwan doesn't mind though, apparently.
  • Jeon Hyosung || 18 || Hardworking ; cheery ; her voice of reason || { Best girl friend } ; "Hyosung unnie is a life saver. Dongwoo, shut up, she's not babying me!" ; calls her "Hyosung unnie" or "Hyo unnie"
    • { full view of personality } Hyosung is very hardworking and cheerful, her upbeat personality is slightly contagious, to be honest. She is never without a smile on her face, and is the ideal person to turn to when you have problems you can't quite solve on your own. Despite her slightly childish behaviour, Hyosung is very motherly in nature, and acts as the umma of the group.
    • { full view of relationship } Hyosung is the older sister Hyun Rin never really had. She dotes and babies Hyun Rin to the core, making the guys in their circle of friends { and at times, even Hyosung's suitors } slightly jealous with how much attention Hyosung gives the younger girl.
  • Kim Yu Jin { UEE } || 20 || Level-headed ; polite ; her role model || { Unnie-dongsaeng } ; "UEE unnie is really dependable - I wonder why you don't have a boyfriend yet? /laughs/" ; calls her "UEE unnie" or "Yu Jin unnie"
    • { full view of personality } UEE is the ideal lady - polite, mature, and respectable. Seeming to be a no-nonsense kind of girl, UEE is always very prim and proper, and constantly acts as everyone's voice of reason. She's initially a tad bit harder to approach than most, as her seemingly immaculate attitude is honestly a bit intimidating, however, UEE really is a very sweet girl once you get to know her.
    • { full view of relationship } UEE is, more or less, Hyun Rin's role model - she finds no fault in the older girl, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. Though UEE is constantly pressured by Hyun Rin's admiration, the younger girl always supports UEE fully. As a recurring joke, Hyun Rin constantly complains about UEE not having a boyfriend, and more often than not, pairs her up with Joongki, Hyun Rin's brother, who studies in the same University as UEE does { ...or is it really simply teasing? }.
  • Lee Howon { Hoya } || 17 || Unpredictable ; manly ; her protector || { Same-aged friends ; classmates } ; "Hoya-ya~ did you get the notes for history? What do you mean I have to call you oppa first?" ; calls him "Hoya-ya" or "Howonnie"
    • { full view of personality } Hoya is a bit... unpredictable. He's relatively quiet in nature, emitting a manly and a tad bit intimidating aura, however, once he starts talking to those he is close with, there is no stopping him. He seems to have a bit of a dual nature of some sorts, or possibly is just too moody, as he easily changes from this to that in the blink of an eye and an uttering of a single word.
    • { full view of relationship } It's not that Hoya likes Hyun Rin in a way crossing the border of friendship, it just seems that way because he wants her to call him oppa too. Since they were born on the same year, Hyun Rin does not consider him as older, and gives off the air that she doesn't respect him - which is highly mistaken. Hoya, in turn, constantly finds every opportunity to show her that he has a mature and "older brother-like" side of him as well.

The Chaser

Love Interest: Kim Sunggyu

Back Up Love Interest: Lee Sungyeol

Personality:

Sunggyu ; the naggy sunbae | Sunggyu is the kind of guy who knows what he wants, and how to achieve it. He's a bit of an over-achiever, and is more or less a complete perfectionist, always unsatisfied until everything is what he deems the best of the best. Maybe that was why he was voted as student council president, and won by a complete landslide. Sunggyu is a no nonsense kind of guy, at least, not when it comes to official business. He wants everything done exactly the way he wants, especially because that means he'll be able to handle any situation if any trouble occurs. Sunggyu almost always seems pretty stressed out because of all the work he does, and because of this, he seems to have garnered the reputation of the "constantly irritated sunbae".

Underneath that strong guy facade though, Sunggyu is actually quite the sweetheart. He gets embarrassed very easily when it comes to showing his feelings, but cannot even properly contain his emotions. Most of what he shows is very negative though, like his disappointment over something or irritated expressions when people are bothering him. Sunggyu does not have the best reputation, to be honest, especially because of his constant nagging and "all talk, but no action" attitude, but is respected by everyone nonetheless. He just has that charismatic, leader-like aura around him that always leaves you in awe.

Sungyeol ; the choding childhood friend | To put it bluntly, Sungyeol is a child. Sungyeol is the class clown, always ready to give everyone a good laugh, whether it's through the sacrifice of his own body or someone else's expense. At times he can get a little bit over-the-top, and you can't help but be irritated, but his choding nature is just very... charming. Sungyeol is the type to wear his heart on his sleeve, when he likes something, you cannot hear enough of it, and when he dislikes something, the same procedures go. Sungyeol has a very one-track mind - he puts his all into only one thing, and tends to forget about everything else.

Just because he's a choding does not mean he can't be serious. He just doesn't see the need to be serious all the time. Sungyeol prefers seeing smiles on everyone's faces rather than foreboding looks. In this sense, despite his seemingly insensitive nature, he does care a lot about others, especially those he is close to. Sungyeol does absolutely everything in his power to brighten up his special someone's day, even at the price of his dignity. Sungyeol is just simply a choding with a huge heart.

Age:

  • Gyu ; 18
  • Yeol ; 17

Relationship:

  • Gyu ; Neighbors, her sunbae, one of Dongwoo's friends. Calls him "Sunggyu-ssi".
  • Yeol ; Classmates since elementary, childhood { ? } friend. Calls him "Yeollie-yah" { or "Choding" when he starts to tease }.

How You Act Around Each Other:

Gyu ; "Yah, what's got you all smiling about, eoh?" |  Hyun Rin is her usual bright ball of sunshine when around him, especially since he always seems too gloomy, stressed by school work and all that. Sunggyu constantly expresses his annoyance on her forever shining aura, but is secretly thankful that even through bad days, he can count on Hyun Rin to never stop smiling. Since they're neighbors, they walk to school together every chance they get - or rather, if Hyun Rin can get up early enough to go with Sunggyu. Sunggyu seems to treat her as nothing more than an acquaintance, but everyone is constantly surprised at the amount of knowledge he has of her - her favourite colour? Pastel pink. Her favourite time of the day? Morning. Her favourite subject? Physical education. Her favourite ice cream flavour? Mint chocolate. Sunggyu knows a lot about Hyun Rin, to the point even she is surpised by the extent of it all. He always claims it was because he's just a very observant guy, and he could do the same with others if given sufficient time, not to mention Hyun Rin is as easy to read as an open book, but he does actually accept deep down Hyun Rin might be the only one he ever paid so much attention on.

Yeol ; "Rin-ah, your notes, please!" |  Sungyeol relies a lot on Hyun Rin, especially with school work, though it's quite obvious that he can do well on his own already. Since they're sort of childhood friends { though Sungyeol, as much as he does not like admitting it, cannot replace Dongwoo as her best friend }, Sungyeol is very comfortable with her and vice versa. Sungyeol's choding nature might actually be a bit contagious as Hyun Rin often finds herself bantering with Sungyeol over the littlest things. Whose lunch is tastier? What hairstyle is more appealing on Hyun Rin? Should Sungyeol get another piercing? Is Math really that hard? Sungyeol and her quarrel over the randomest things - they are able to go from light arguments to political debates. They tease each other a lot about trivial things - love life, academics, and everything in between - but both know that they will never get angry with each other, no matter how much they try.

How You Met:

Gyu | He had moved sometime during the summer before her third year of middle school, seeing as he was moving to Seoul for the start of his high school. Hyun Rin was informed by her mother that they were going to have a new neighbour, and that they had a child in the family about the same age as her. Hyun Rin was elated with the news and even prepared a welcoming gift for the new family when they moved in. Hyun Rin helped transfer some of the lighter stuff when the truck came in, which were coincidentally almost all of Sunggyu's stuff { mostly his CDs and his books, really }.

Yeol | They met during their first year of elementary when Hyun Rin had moved to Seoul and hadn't known anyone. Since Sungyeol was such a friendly and heroic little kid, he made it his mission to become friends with the new girl. He a lot though, so Hyun Rin had initially thought he didn't like her. They unknowingly became friends ever since their streak of becoming classmates every year became evident to both of them.
