I've Been Toying with This Idea for Quite A While Now...

Well, the title pretty much says half of it... No, it's not really KPOP related. It's more about the stories I've written. This idea popped into my brain a few days ago and it has kept me distratced and all that.

Long story short, I was thinking of having OC (own character) versions of my KPOP stories. Crazy as it may and can sound, I was thinking of presenting them (I'd probably do a collection of short stories or something) to some publishing houses here in the Philippines and see where my luck takes me.

I don't know though... The more I think about it, the less hopeful I become. No offense but uh... Philippine Literature isn't really a booming market and all. I guess it's safe to say that people are far more interested in reading foreign novels and such here.

Add the fact that not much of my family and friends have read any of my work. Actually, only two of my college friends have read quite a number of my KPOP fics here in AFF. The other friends who have read are my friends that I met through this wonderful world of KPOP fanfics.

My family? Nada.

I want to try. There's no harm in it, right? Yet, at the same time I don't want to. Maybe - just maybe - my whole love for writing is really just going to be meant for fanfics.

Any advice?

haaay, I can be very KJ sometimes. Pero bella bb, I'd leave with this line from a song I just heard rn. Sakto sa sitwasyon.

"if you lose a moment, you might lose a lot so why not?" :)

Ooh, I've been reflecting about something like this 2weeks ago.

The Philippine literature industry is highly polarized. Mainstream and marketable literature usually cater to the masses. A perfect example of this are tagalog filipino pocketbooks. On the other hand, there are the literary works of the 'artists'. The Palanca-worthy types. They are specifically published to cater a certain audience: usually literary critics or if not, their own writers' circles. The ones in the middle are the english young adult fics they usually advertise in magazines such as cosmo. These, too, cater to a limited market esp that yuppies/students prefer reading foreign novels.

Perhaps the most, if not only, successful book 'series' is that of Bob Ong. It was an amazing feat for a literary work because it essentially hit all categories. Patok sa masa pero matalino. For all ages pa. Haha.

To say that there are a lot of talented filipino writers is an understatement. This also explains why literature isn't a booming industry. In the city of vendors, nobody prospers. It's because everybody is selling and nobody is buying. The allegory can be used in the Phil too. Dahil madaming magaling magsulat, konti lang ang interesadong magbasa. Basically, if we are to publish something, we need to define which category do we aim to be a part of. Ask ourselves too of the purpose and what we're doing it for. :)

Then again, it's all about being happy. If we find happiness in it, go! Keep in mind lang that friends are always there to support. :)

Hon, if this has kept you bothered for so long, I'd say it isn't just an itch that comes and goes like any other mudane thoughts. It doesnt matter if the market isnt booming in that field, because if you don't try it out, you wont know the outcome and this might just become a regret that you'll forever hang onto later.
Dont hinder a possibility of expanding your field of knowledge if there is a chance, however slim it might be.
honestly speaking, you're a very talented young writer not just in fanfiction writing because the plot you made use could easily be taken for a proper storyline out of the kpop scene. Im not saying this as an encouragement, but its the plain fact. You have a flair with writing and if you want to take the next step at pushing your boundary, i'll be all for it. There's no harm in trying. At least then you know you made an effort in this matter. If they dont respond, well, its their loss. But thunk of the possibilities that it might bring to your future if they do respond with something positive!

But ultimately, it'd still be your decision to make since this is your own comfort zone we're talking about. No matter your choice or outcome, know that we'll be here for you despite the distance.

I hope i didnt just kill you with my blabbering. Its sort of noncoherent since im typing using the phone. Will perhaps add some better advice for yoy when im online later. Haaaaa
