Narrator:
In this world, nothing really is perfect. You may think it's perfect but deep down, it still has that one flaw that makes it imperfect. This cruel fact also applies on families. No family is perfect. All families just have something that you can't consider perfect. One of these families is the Fernandez Family.
Everyone thinks that this family is the perfect family. With 2 loving parents and 4 well-taught and lovable children, what else can you call not perfect? They also excel on the wealth and intellectual department. If they possess all these traits, how else can you call them not perfect?
But like I said, it may seem perfect but it can't help but to have a flaw. And the flaw of this family is that time is against them. With the sudden death of the foundation of the family, can you still say that this family is perfect?
Now only single-handed, how can the light of the family raise her children all by herself?
In this story you will learn that ad mist imperfection, a family can go beyond challenges because they have each other.

Mary:
Mommy Madeline!!!!!!! Kuya Benn broke my doll!!!!! (fake cries)
Madeline:
Again? (sigh)
Benn:
It was an accident! It was in the way, I didn't mean to step on it!
Madeline:
That's okay Benn, dear. But you should apologize to your sister. Mary, sweetie, come to mommy. (stretches arms)
Mary:
(sobs while walking towards Madeline) M-mommy. My doll. . .
Madeline:
Shhh. . . I'll just buy you another one, okay? Now stop crying. (hugs Mary and pats her head) Benn, what will you say?
Benn:
Sorry, bunso. But it really was in the way! I swear! (raises right hand and crosses heart while feverishly shaking head) I really am sorry. Will you forgive me, bunso?
Mary:
Okay Kuya since Mommy said she'll buy me a new one. (stops crying and runs toward Benn) But when she does, I want you to play doll house with me!
Benn:
WHAT?! Of course not! I'm a boy, bunso. I don't play doll house! (shakes head fervently)
Mary:
But. . . (tears building up in your eyes and lips are quivering)
Benn:
Oh no. D-don't cry, bunso!
Mary:
But you won't play doll house with me, I'm sad.
Benn:
Will it make you happy if I play doll house with you?
Mary:
(nods head) Hmmm.
Benn:
(sigh) Alright then. Doll house it is.
Mary:
YAY! I LOVE YOU KUYA! (tackles Benn in a bear hug)
Benn:
Oof! Hehe~ I love you too, bunso. (hugs Mary back) Come on, I'll buy you your favorite La Espesyal de Mocha ice cream cake.
Mary:
Really?! YAY! LET'S GO!! (drags Benn out)
Narrator:
Madeline smiled upon seeing her two children make up. She was so proud of Benn because he just showed acts of being a responsible and loving brother towards his sister: Mary. Just then, breaking her mental nirvana, was the sound of their doorbell.
Madeline:
Oh? Who could be visiting us at this late hour?
Narrator:
It was actually 9:30 in the evening and Madeline wasn't really expecting visitors. She walked to the front door and opened it only to be greeted by her family's close friends: the Pacheco couple.
Madeline:
Mi Amiga, Mi Amigo! Oh, what brings you here? Anyway, come in, come in.
Narrator:
Madeline opened the door wider for her friends to come in. The Pacheco couple: Mrs. Carmela Erika Pacheco and Mr. Jobriel Wilson Pacheco are close friends of the Fernandez family. They came in and sat down at Madeline's living room.
Carmela:
Thank you for the warm welcome, Mi Amiga. Such a hospitable person as always. (smiles)
Madeline:
It's no big deal. We're friends! Do you and Jobriel want some juice? Americano? Jasmine Tea? Or Hot Cocoa?
Jobriel:
Oh it's okay. Don't bother yourself too much, Amiga. We're only here for a visit and to deliver you something.
Madeline:
Oh? And that is?
Carmela:
You'll know later. Be patient.
Madeline:
That's alright. You can give it to me when you're ready.
Narrator:
Just then Gyan and April, Madeline's eldest and 3rd eldest daughters came into the living room.
Gyan:
Mommy, is daddy back yet?
Narrator:
Gyan is Madeline's eldest daughter being 15 years old. Benn being the 2nd eldest at 13, April being the 3rd eldest at 11 at Mary being the youngest at 6.
Madeline:
No, he's not back yet but your Aunt Carmela and Uncle Jobriel have come here for a visit. Now, be good girls and get them some snacks and drinks.
Gyan:
Alright then, Mommy. Come on April. You will help ate carry the tray of snacks for Aunt and Uncle.
Carmela:
You really shouldn't have bothered your kids like that but I'm happy to see that you've disciplined them well.
Narrator:
Gyan and April came back with a tray of snacks and drinks for their guest. Even at persuasion not to by the Pacheco couple, Madeline just can't let them leave without giving them food. The Fernandez family is known for being hospitable to any guest. After eating and a couple of small talks, the Pacheco couple decided to leave.
Carmela:
Thank you for the lovely snack, Mi Amiga. Till that happen again but for now, we must be on our way. Although, we will now give you the delivery.
Madeline:
Oh yes, of course.
Carmela:
Please do not open this until we leave.
Madeline:
Why?
Carmela:
A reason, but can you do that for me, Mi Amiga?
Madeline:
Sure, sure. I won't open it until you leave.
Gyan:
Bye, Aunt Carmela and Uncle Jobriel. Have a safe drive home.
Carmela:
Thank you, Gyan. We will.
Narrator:
The Pacheco couple left afterwards. Just as Madeline promised, she didn't open the letter until her friends were gone and now that they were, she decided that it was time she knew that contents of the letter. But the sooner she decided to read the letter, the sooner she regretted it for it contains things that shattered her heart.
Madeline fell to the ground with one hand on , trying to not to choke out a sob. Now she knew why her Amiga wanted to be gone first before she reads the letter.
Gyan saw her mother haggardly slumped to the ground so she ran to her.
Gyan:
Mother! What's wrong?! Why are you crying?!
Madeline:
Gyan. . . Your father. . .
Gyan:
Why? Is there something the matter with father?
Madeline:
He left us. . .
Gyan:
What?! What do you mean that daddy left us?! Are you saying the daddy has another family and he left us for them?!
Madeline:
No. . .Your father. . . is dead. He had a car accident and was dead on arrival at the hospital. I can't . . .
Narrator:
Madeline tried to suppress her sob because she doesn't want to look weak in front of her daughter but she just can't stop it. She bawled out loud. Gyan, on the other hand, can't believe what she just heard. Her father? Dead? So suddenly? She just remembered having breakfast with him and now she hearing that her father's gone? Forever?
That incident was the root of all misfortunes for the Fernandez family. After the death of Madeline's husband, all things were just against them. First, their company was in the verge of bankruptcy. Second, Madeline was having huge trouble in raising her children all by herself. And third, which is probably the biggest problem of all, Gyan was becoming a rebel. She started joining groups of wrong people and doing wrong things with them. She had multiple relationships with bad boys who want her for the wrong purposes. Fortunately, her current boyfriend now was a good boy who really loves her but even her boyfriend was powerless in stopping her in joining wrong groups.
Rovi:
You should really stop joining those rebel groups. They're not good for you. Think about your mom. She's having a hard time looking after you and your siblings. Don't add to her burden.
Gyan:
Pssh! I can do whatever I want. My father's gone and my life's ruined! We're bankrupt and on the verge of poverty. The least I can do is have fun! You, being my boyfriend, should support me!
Rovi:
(sigh) Alright then but please consider my words.
Gyan:
Yeah, right!
Narrator:
One of Gyan's group decided to throw a party and she was invited. Gyan invited Rovi, considering that he was her boyfriend. Rovi wasn't really the drinker type but was just forced to drink by Gyan's wrong friends. By the end of the party, everyone was drunk including Gyan and Rovi. They didn't know or remember what happened in the morning but it wasn't long before Gyan started feeling morning sickness. Nausea always overwhelmed her each morning and also the hatred for fried food. Rovi was scared for he now has a guess on what's going on with Gyan. They went to a doctor to confirm it.
Gyan:
I told you, Rovi! I'm not pregnant!
Rovi:
Then how do you explain the morning sickness and hatred for fried food?
Gyan:
Things like those can happen to anyone who are not pregnant!
Rovi:
Look, I just want to be sure, for if you are pregnant and it's my fault then. . .
Gyan:
(raises eyebrow) Then?
Rovi:
I'll. . . I'll answer for the baby.
Narrator:
And Rovi was correct. Gyan is 3 weeks pregnant. She couldn't believe it. She was only 15 yet another being is growing inside her. She knew it was her fault but what scared her the most is. . . how is she going to break the news to her mother?
After almost half a year of staying with her wrong group, Gyan finally decided to go home for a change which shocked her mom and siblings.
Gyan:
I'm home. . .
April:
Ate? Ate, is that you?
Gyan:
Hello April. How have you been?
April:
ATE! ATE, YOU'RE REALLY HOME!
Madeline:
April, what's with all the---
Narrator:
Madeline stopped half-way to what she's saying when she saw her daughter that she hadn't seen for the past six months. All emotions flooded her. Anger, Pain, Disappointment, Happiness, Sadness, but the most overwhelming feeling she felt was Relief. Relief to see that her daughter, after six months without communication with, was alive and well. She wanted to vent out all her feelings to Gyan but just couldn't bring herself to do so. Instead, she just ran towards her and enveloped her in a big, warm hug.
Madeline:
Gyan. . . I'm so glad you've come back. I thought I'll never see my precious first born again.
Narrator:
Gyan felt guilt eating her up. She felt like the most disgraceful daughter any parent could have. While she was out being wasted, her mother was here worrying for her.
Madeline pulled away from the hug and dragged Gyan towards the kitchen.
Madeline:
You're just in time for dinner, dear. I know it's not much but at least we're all together now. That's all that matters.
Narrator:
Ever since Madeline's husband died, their company became bankrupt so she was fending for her children minus Gyan all by herself. Even though it was hard, Madeline strive hard for her kids. She was industrious when it comes to her children.
Madeline:
Sit Gyan. We'll eat together. April, call your brother and sister.
April:
Yes, mommy.
Narrator:
April called Benn and Mary. When the two entered the kitchen, they were surprised to see their eldest ate sitting at the table. Mary was the first one to move as she ran towards her ate and hugged her.
Mary:
ATE! YOU'RE BACK! YOU'RE BACK! I MISSED YOU ATE! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!
Gyan:
I missed you too, Mary. Sorry I left. (hugs back) Come here, too, April and Benn.
April:
Don't leave again, okay ate?
Benn:
Ate, why did you leave? Don't you love us anymore?
Gyan:
Of course I do. I guess my mind just wasn't right these past few months. Maybe I was too affected by daddy's death. I'm sorry.
Madeline:
That's okay, dear. Alls' forgiven. Now, everyone take your seats and we'll eat. It's not much but the most important thing is that we're together now. All of us. Let's put everything your sister did aside because she's here now and that's what's important.
Narrator:
Guilt started to eat up Gyan again. She was really expecting to be scolded by her mother but all she got was a hug and a warm welcome. Before she knew it, she was crying.
Gyan:
I'm sorry. . . I'm so sorry. . .
Narrator:
Her family was happy to be complete again even though her father wasn't there and she just couldn't bare to shatter that happiness by saying that she's pregnant. So she decided to keep it a secret. As for the baby, she decided not to keep it. . . at all. She doesn't care even if her boyfriend is willing to answer for the baby, her mind is set on not keeping it.
Madeline:
I said alls' forgiven, Gyan. Now stop crying and let's eat.
Gyan:
Okay, mother.
Narrator:
The night passed and soon, it was morning. Gyan woke up early and decided to go to the church. Even though she made a strong decision of aborting the baby, she still feels guilty because she'll be taking a life. Not just any life but the life of her own child. She wanted to ask forgiveness to God for what she's going to do.
Gyan reached the church and stepped inside. Tears built up in her eyes. When she was near the altar, she got on her knees and cried.
Gyan:
I don't want to kill my own child but I have no choice. I'm not ready for this. I'm so sorry, please forgive me and please take care of my child once she goes to you. I leave her in you hands.
Eloisa:
If you will regret doing so, why do it at all?
Narrator:
A strange lady appeared and put a hand on Gyan's shoulders.
Gyan:
Huh? Who are you?
Eloisa:
You say you are pregnant, yes?
Gyan:
Yes.
Eloisa:
And you want to rid yourself of the child?
Gyan:
I have no choice. I'm only 15 and I can't handle this much burden!
Eloisa:
Oh but a child is never a burden. Do you think of yourself as a burden?
Gyan:
It's not me. It's this child!
Eloisa:
Yes, but you were once in that situation too. When you were still in your mother's womb. You were never a burden to your mother so why should this child be a burden to you?
Gyan:
I'm too young to have this. . .
Eloisa:
God gave you a gift. A precious gift from above that should never be considered as a burden. What would you feel if you knew that you were a burden to your mother?
Gyan:
Sad. . .
Eloisa:
Exactly, just like this baby. It would feel sad. Please reconsider. Even if you are too young, god gave you a gift and it's not right to throw it away. It should be cared for.
Narrator:
The strange lady left after that. Gyan's eyes grew misty again. She looked at her stomach and smiled. She stood up.
Gyan:
Did I scare you, baby? I'm sorry. Don't worry, I won't get rid of you anymore.
Narrator:
Meanwhile, Rovi: Gyan's boyfriend and father to her child, was having a problem too. He may have said that he'll answer for the baby but deep down, fear is still reeking havoc on him. He feared on how his parents will react upon knowing that he got someone pregnant. He also feared that Gyan will leave him. He loves her and doesn't want her to leave him.
Rovi:
Argh! What am I gonna do?!
Paulo:
What's the matter, son? You seem troubled over something.
Narrator:
Rovi didn't notice his father, Paulino, going in his room. He was too preoccupied with his thoughts to pay any attention to his surroundings.
Rovi:
Nothings the matter, father. I was just thinking.
Paulo:
Of what?
Rovi:
Of things. . .
Paulo:
Of what things? You can tell me anything, son. I'm your father.
Rovi:
I just don't know how you'll react to this.
Paulo:
Tell me, and we'll know.
Rovi:

(sigh) I. . . I got someone pregnant, dad.
Paulo:
(silent for 5 seconds) What?
Rovi:
I got someone pregnant.
Paulo:
By accident?
Rovi:
Yes. I didn't mean to and now I'm afraid she'll leave me.
Paulo:

(pats Rovi's back) Do you love the girl?
Rovi:
More than anything.
Paulo:
Are you willing to answer for the baby?
Rovi:
I am.
Paulo:
Then you have my support.
Rovi:

(widens eyes and pretends to be shocked) I have your what?
Paulo:
My support.
Rovi:
Shouldn't you be angry at me?
Paulo:
I should but what's done is done. I'm proud that you're being a man and facing this head-on. Good luck, son.
Rovi:
What about mom?
Paulo:
I'll take care of it. What you do now is go to your new family, okay?
Rovi:
(hugs Paulo) Thank you so much, dad.

Paulo:
(pats Rovi's back again) No problem.
Narrator:
Rovi left his house and ran to Gyan's house. His mind was set on asking Gyan's hand in marriage. When he reached Gyan's house, he knocked feverishly on the door. Luck was on his side because Gyan herself answered the door.
Gyan:
What are you doing here?
Rovi:
I think it's time to tell your mother.
Gyan:
I don't know.
Rovi:
We will!
Madeline:
Tell me what?
Gyan:
Mother. . .
Rovi:
Mrs. Fernandez. . .
Madeline:
What?
Gyan:
Mom. . . I'm pregnant.
Rovi:
And it's my fault. I'm sorry Mrs. Fernandez but I won't let Gyan answer for the baby alone. We'll answer together.
Madeline:
I knew something was wrong with my daughter. She never ate her favorite fried chicken last night. I guess this answers it.
Gyan:
I'm really sorry, mom.

Madeline:
(smiles) It's okay. I just hope you won't abort the baby.
Gyan:
I planned to. . .
Rovi:
What?!
Gyan:
But I'm not. . .
Madeline:
That's good to hear. Now let's all go inside to make proper introductions between me and my future son-in-law.
Rovi:
Son-in-law?
Madeline:
Why yes. What's your name, lad?
Rovi:
Rovi.
Madeline:
Well Rovi, you can start calling me mom. (puts arms around Gyan and Rovi) Now, shall we discuss your wedding plans?
Gyan:
Mom!. . .
Rovi:

(laughs)
Narrator:
It may seem to be all dark in the Fernandez Family because of the massive hurricane that blew them away but like what people say, after a hurricane comes a rainbow. And now that their rainbow have shone brightly on them, they are ready to start once again now knowing that ad mist imperfection and lack of hope, family will always be there for you always.
