Philippines ♥

My country

1. How people are?

Filipinos are known to be one of the happiest nations in the world. Because even we have problems we tend to smile and laugh. We tried to lift our problems with happiness. We also are friendly and hospitable when it comes to visitors and friends.

Though there are some places here were people are rude or dangerous. Specially in the depressed areas. Robbers, thieves, hold-upers. People like that.

But all in all people here are nice and all smile. Just smile at them and surely you’ll get back a smile. *But I don’t do that especially with strangers, creeps me out.~kekekeke*

2. English level of an average person ? ( In case the languages used or the country's only language are not english )

Here in the Philippines, the first language that we learn in school, aside from our national language, is English. All of our lessons and subjects are taught in the English language. Except for our Filipino or History subjects (even sometimes History are in English.) So yeah, we learn English at a very young age. Maybe even before school. My parents, my nephews/nieces parents, or other parents- talks to their baby/toddlers/kids in English. It’s kinda off for me when I encounter things like that. Though it’s a good way also to think that we’ll use it in the future.

My national language is Filipino but we got a lot of dialect. It varies on the different provinces or region of my country. And sadly I only know Tagalog/Filipino. I didn’t grew up in a rural place but at the NCR (National Capital Region) which Filipino and English are the prime language.

And speaking English in my country is a must. If you can’t speak the language you are considered as stupid or illiterate. That’s the truth even if it hurts.

3. Good places to visit ?

BUT I HAVEN’T BEEN IN ANY OF THESE PLACES. BOO-HOO ME! TT^TT

BORACAY

Though I haven’t been there 3 It got cancelled so many times and it !

Boracay is a famous white sand beach that is located in the province of Aklan (hometown of my dad) it’s a 45-60 minutes travel via air. But it’s kind of overcrowded there. A lot of foreigners, celebrities, and etc. go there.

Since Boracay has been developed and investors are starting starts to put up and launch their new businesses, Boracay is now considered as highly urbanized island, which has been the reason why people tend to stay and live there for good.  Aside from the sunsets and the parties, the beach is always a few minutes away.

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is one of the must-visit places among the World Heritage Sites of the Philippines. Its natural 8.2 km navigable underground river is believed to be the world’s longest. The river can be found beneath a beautiful limestone karst mountain called St. Paul (named after one of its peaks that resemble the dome of St. Paul Cathedral in Italy).

This national park is one of the centers of biodiversity conservation in Palawan. In fact, you can see monkeys and large monitor lizards greeting you on your way to the mouth of the cave. It’s one of the 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD.

Palawan- Another province that has a beautiful beaches and scenery.

The Historic Town of Vigan is one of the best examples of a well-preserved Spanish Colonial Town established in the 16th century. It is famous for its authentic Spanish-era homes lining the restored cobblestone streets. Thankfully, this heritage gem has survived World War II and the onslaught of natural calamities.

During World War II, as story has it, the Japanese Military commander Captain Fujiro Takahashi asked the help of Fr. Joseph Kleikamp to take care of his Filipina wife and child in exchange for not burning the town when the Japanese forces retreated. When the Japanese left, the people of Vigan spread an oversized American flag in the plaza to avoid being bombed by the Americans.

BAGUIO

Known as the “Summer capital of the Philippines”. The city is known for its mild climate, and since this is a tropical country and unbearably humid during summer, people visit this place for a cool down, just to get away from the city life and enjoy some simple recreation.

If you like nature and the smell of pine trees, you surely will enjoy staying in Baguio. Although the city is located on a mountain, it that doesn’t mean that you are deprived  from nightlife. People here know what party means and they have wide array of bars and clubs for you to choose from. Session Road  and Harrison Road are just  two note worthy example of places in the heart of the city where you will keep plenty busy when you’re not relaxing. As well, there are several parks in the city which are perfect for a romantic stroll: Burnham Park, Wright Park and the famous Mines View Park where people spend their times with loved ones.

CEBU CITY

BOHOL

*There are more places to visit here in PH.

4. Food

There’s a lot to choose from so you can check it out here :)

http://www.filipino-food-lovers.com/

Also our food is always partnered with rice. We can’t live without it :)
I mean in meals *lunch&dinner* In breakfast rice is optional :)

Drinks

Because of the climate in our country which are relatively high temperature, high humidity and abundant rainfall; chilled drinks are well-liked and popular.

Salabat - ginger tea.
Gulaman at Sago - a flavored iced-drink with agar gelatin and tapioca balls/pearls
Fresh Mango Shake - ripe mangoes blended with milk, ice and sugar. *my favorite!
Pandan Iced Tea - tea made with Pandan leaves and lemon grass.
Green Mango Shake - green mangoes blended with syrup.
Kalamansi Juice - Philippine limes squeezed and blended with honey, syrup or sugar.
Lambanog - is hard liquor made from coconut extract.
Fresh Buko Juice - The Philippines is a producer of coconut products. The fruit is topped and a straw is pierced into the membrane allowing a person to drink its juice.

Other Tropical Fruit Drinks - Dalanghita (green mandarin), Suha (Pomelo), Piña (Pineapple), Banana, and Guyabano (Soursop).
Brandy-Iced Tea Powder - a popular cocktail and a part of several cocktails of liqueurs and juice powders.
Fruit Shakes - similar to milkshake but it only contains fruit or flavoring (like chocolate malt drink powder or chocolate cookies), milk (except in some fruits), crushed ice, water and sugar. There are unusual flavors like durian.

Desserts

My personal favorites are;

Leche Flan – it’s like a pudding made of egg yolks, milk, and sugar. Very yummy!

Taho – sweetened tofu/soy

Ice cream

Cake

Halo-Halo mixed beans, fruits, and jellies partnered with crushed ice and evaporated milk. On top of that are Ube, ice cream, and leche flan :)

Yema- it’s made up of milk and I don’t know how. What I know is this is delicious. Can be a substitute with chocolate ♥

*ugh! There’s a lot! Can’t elaborate more :3

5. Languages ? ( Just like question 2, in case there are other languages different than english )

My national language is Filipino but we got a lot of dialect. It varies on the different provinces or region of my country. And sadly I only know Tagalog/Filipino. I didn’t grew up in a rural place but at the NCR (National Capital Region) which Filipino and English are the prime language.

(same as question #2)
