Melanie walked as quickly as she could to avoid anybody even though hardly anyone was awake. Finally she reached the library's door and walked in. Sighing, she plopped down in her secret spot that no one knew about. Amazingly nobody has been able to find her here so she was safe from anybody. It was the one place where she was almost safe. Not even her room in the dorms was safe enough.

She hugged her knees together and hated her parents for making her come this awful school. After all, she was the perfect victim.

Small, weak, young, helpess, a coward, innocent. She was like a lamb in a school full of vicious wolves. 

"Damn it." she groaned as she suddenly remembered what happened yesterday. All of her muscles were sore and she had a bruise on her left arm too.

"Hey Mel, you better have my homework by tomorrow." a girl from her class said with a straight face. Melanie only blinked in return.

The girl snorted in disgust and quickly said to Melanie, "Geez, for such a smart , you sure are dumb. Anyways, I need all of my homework done by tomorrow, and it better be all 'A's', got it?" 

Melanie only nodded.

"Here." she said while giving her a huge pile of homework. "Finish it, or you dead."

Melanie still only nodded in return, not exactly comprehending the current situation.

"No wonder they call you the mute girl. Che, you're so ing annoying keeping that act up. You can't charm any guy here with your looks. I mean you have unkempt hair, big, nerdy glasses, and you have such a fake personality." 

"I'm not the one who has a horrid and fake personality." she whispered, but unfortunately it was heard by the other girl.

"What the hell did you just say?" she said in a venomous tone. She grabbed Melanie's shirt and slammed her against the wall. 

Melanie paled and regretted ever talking. Her legs were shaking and she was too afraid to even talk.

"Oh, look at this. The nerdy girl tried to insult me. Well, big mistake, ." the other girl said while punching her in the arm.

She winced in pain and looked down.

"Next time you insult me, I'll mess up your face, got it?" she said angrily while dropping Melanie to the floor.

She left after that, and Melanie felt absolutely idiotic for saying such a thing.The other students were staring and whispering about her. 

Who was she to do such a foolish thing? Oh right, she was nothing more than a loser, nerd, geek, etc. A way too low class person with these obviously richer students. 

Sighing, she only smiled bitterly at the thought and rested her head against the wall. Guess who's skipping class again? Well, since I already gave that girl her homework, I'm no longer any use. Ah, such a bad week, eh, Mel? 

She shook her head. "Things will get better, right?" she murmured to herself as if to convince that it will.
