Living Life #26 - June 3: All for God

1 Peter 5:6-9 <3

A verse that God beckoned my Pastor to speak of today:

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Think about these verses; they say so much.

All for God - Exodus 29:35-46

From Morning to Evening

35: "Do for Aaron and his sons everything I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them."

36: "Sacrifice a bull each day as a sin offering to make atonement. Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it."

37: "For seven days make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will be most holy, and whatever touches it will be holy."

38: "This is what you are to offer on the altar regularly each day: two lambs a year old."

39: "Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight."

40: "With the first lamb offer a tenth of an ephah [two quarts] of the finest flour mixed with a quarter of a hin [a quart] of oil from pressed olives, and a quarter of a hin [a quart] of wine as a drink offering."

41: "Sacrifice the other lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and its drink offering as in the morning - a pleasing aroma, a food aroma presented to the LORD."

Consecrated by His Glory

42: "For the generations to come this burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance to the tent of meeting, before the LORD. There I will meet you and speak to you;"

43: "there also I will meet the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory."

44: "So I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar and will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests."

45: "Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God."

46: "They will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God."

Reflection

From Morning to Evening (29:35-41)

God here commands Moses and Aaron topurify and consecrate the altar, making it most holy. He also commands that daily sacrifices be made on this altar, specifically, a young lamb twice a day, at morning and at twilight. At first, this twice-daily requirement may seem excessive and difficult to maintain over a long period of time. That amounts to 730 lambs per year! But when one considers the generosity of God and the fact that God provides every good thing for us, the daily sacrifices do not seem excessive at all. In fact, it is the least the Israelites could do to show their appreciation for God's gracious provision in their lives. Also, the faily sacrifices remind the Israelites to consecrate every day to the Lord. Each day is to begin and end with worship. Every waking hour of our lives belongs to the Lord.

Consecrated by His Glory (29:42-46)

What consecrates something or someone as holy is not a ceremony or the anointing of oil or even the bestowing of a grand title. What truly consecrates something is the glory of God descending upon it. This is exactly what God says in verse 43. When God's glory claims something for itself, nothing else can ever lay claim to it again, because what God wants, He gets.

The reason God consecrates objects and people for Himself is so that He will be recognized as God and receive even more glory for His name (v.46). "They will know" sums up the purpose of God in all of His dealings with the Israelites and even with His Church. It is so that all people, the entire world encompassing both the righteous and the wicked, will know that there is a God in heaven, the one true God who rules over all.

Application

-God wants every moment of our lives to be dedicated to Him. Yet we only give God our quiet times and a few hours on Sundays. Anything less than every waking moment falls short of God's will for His people.

-If you are in Christ, God has consecrated you for Himself by giving you His Holy Spirit. This means God also intends and desires to glorify Himself in and through You. This also means we must live for His glory.
