Memory Verse of the Week:

“Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not ert justice by siding with the crowd.” – Exodus 23:2

Sacred Statements Exodus 26:1-14

Colorful Curtains

1: “Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, with cherubim woven into them by a skilled worker.”

2: “All the curtains are to be the same size – twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide.”

3: “Join five of the curtains together, and do the same with the other five.”

4: “Make loops of blue material along the edge of the end curtain in one set, and do the same with the end curtain in the other set.”

5: “Make fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the other set, with the loops opposite each other.”

6: “Then make fifty gold clasps and use them to fasten the curtains together so that the tabernacle is a unit.”

Animal Decorations

7: “Make curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle – eleven altogether.”

8: “All eleven curtains are to be the same size – thirty cubits long and four cubits wide.

9: “Join five of the curtains together into one set and the other size into another set. Fold the sixth curtain double at the front of the tent.”

10: “Make fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in one set and also along the edge of the end curtain in the other set.”

11: “Then make fifty bronze clasps and put them in the loops to fasten the tent together in a unit.”

12: “As for the additional length of the tent curtains, the half curtain that is left over is to hang down at the rear of the tabernacle.”

13: “The tent curtains will be a cubit longer on both sides; what is left will hang over the sides of the tabernacle so as to cover it.”

14: “Make for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed reed, and over that a covering of the other durable leather.”

Reflection

Colorful Curtains (26:1-6)

In the previous chapter, the Lord asked for an offering from each man whose heart was willing. The offering that was to be received included: blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen; goat hair; and ram skins dyed red (Exod. 25:1-5). We now see how this offering is used in the tabernacle. The tabernacle tent has an array of curtains, most notably of different colors that could be interpreted with symbolic meaning on the basis of other biblical references. White represents holiness; blue, heavenly origin and character; purple, royal glory; and crimson, blood and vigorous life. Even the colorful curtains foreshadow the coming of the Messiah. The colors of the curtains are fulfilled in Christ who is holy, who has a heavenly origin, who is the King of all kings, and whose blood brought about final salvation to whoever believes.

Animal Decorations (26:7-14)

In addition to the colorful curtains, which make up the inner part of the tabernacle, there are also curtains of goat hair, a covering of dyed ram skins, and a covering of durable leather which cover the tabernacle. Again, we see significance and meaning in the décor of the tabernacle. The curtains of goat hair are a daily reminder of the sin offering according to Numbers 28:15. It is also a reminder of our cleansing from sin (Lev. 16). The covering of ram skins brings to mind the sacrifice used in consecrating the priesthood (Lev. 8), and it is deliberately dyed red to show that the priesthood is set apart by blood. Finally, the protective coating of other durable leather marks a protective separation between the dwelling place of God and the world. Everything in the tabernacle is sacred, and everything that makes up the tabernacle makes a statement.

Application

-Everything in the tabernacle was sacred and made a statement. Can you say the same thing about your life? Your life is God’s dwelling place. He lives in you. Is your life making a big statement to the world?

-Everything about the tabernacle pointed to Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Because of Him, we have forgiveness of sin and a new life. Pray and ask the Lord to keep reminding you of the Good News, which is the Gospel of Christ!

His Tent in Our Camp

Within the last decade, Dubai has become known for its attention-grabbing and ambitious construction projects and architectural wonders. In a sense, Dubai has become the architect’s paradise. This “building boom of epic proportions” has created an opportunity for architects to design and create to their heart’s content – that is, assuming they are not limited by time and money.

The fact is, such freedom in a building project is rare. Complexity and extravagance are often sacrificed in exchange for speed and low costs. So it might be easy to think that the same holds true for the tabernacle as well. However, the design for the tabernacle did not come from man. It came from God. As Henry Law writes, “God Himself gave this gracious blessing. He drew the plan. He gave the model. He inspired the skill. Each part, then, is His wisdom. Each has a Gospel-tongue. Each heard aright reveals that ‘Christ is All.’ This is not fancy’s dream. It is the Spirit’s clear-toned lesson. He cries to all the family of faith – Look to the tabernacle, and behold your Lord.”

God reminds us in Isaiah 66:1, “This is what the LORD says: Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?’? No man-made temple would ever be remotely sufficient for the Most High God. Rather, the tabernacle and everything within it were designed by God to visibly testify that He dwells with His people. It shows that He is with us wherever we go. He loves us, so He pitched His tent in our camp.

A Letter to God

Dear Jesus, thank You for living the life I could never live, dying the death that I should have died, and conquering death by rising again from the dead.

May my life be filled with holiness, and may it be a powerful statement to the world about Your redeeming love. In Your name. Amen.
