The Story (10.1.10)

First, I want to say... I LOVE THE DATE TODAY. XDDD "10.1.10" I'm so weird. But yeah! Second, I want to say: cOnFuXiA-NeTtEiX Ate! I've made you wait long enough!

So here it is~! The story behind my poem "Under the Rain." :333 I hope everyone who reads this likes it! (Especially you, Ate~ ♥) And comments are much loved! Thank you and please enjoy~

The Story

"Do you think it'll rain today?" the girl bravely asked the boy sitting in the desk beside her, making a concious effort to smile.

The boy glanced out the classroom window and replied simply, "Nope."

"O-oh... Okay." And she faced the front of the room, hiding her embarrassment.

All Lee Jinsang wanted was to have a conversation with him--just one. That was it. But her first attempt had failed, and she just didn't have the will to try again. For months now, Jinsang had liked him--Kim Kangin. Over the past few weeks since the first day of school had started, she had developed feelings for him.

But in just a few seconds, one word slapped a bright neon sign on her forehead that read: "REJECTED."

~ ♥ ~

Kim Kangin must have been an idiot, because it was definitely raining that afternoon.

And Jinsang did not have an umbrella with her.

Standing under the roof of the school, she waited for the rain to stop. It couldn't possibly last much longer--half an hour at the most.

Two hours later though, the rain was still falling. Wind speeds picked up to almost thirty-five kilometers an hour, and the skies quickly became darkened by heavy clouds. The pitter-patter of the rain two hours ago was non-existent, as it sounded more like cell phones falling from the sky.

Today was horrible.

Rejection, embarrassment, and now a mini-typhoon. Could this day get any worse?

"Ping!"

Taking out her mobile phone, Jinsang flipped it open, read the screen ("One new text message"), and pressed the 'open' button.

"From: Umma
Message received: 5:32PM Friday, Nov. 1, 2010

Subject: Sorry!

Caught up in traffic and
will be home late. Go
ahead and eat dinner.
Love you!"

Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Rejection, embarrassment, mini-typhoon, no way home, no one at home, and no way into the house even if she could get there.

Fantastic.

Sighing heavily, Jinsang faced the wall and began to hit her head against the brick--repeatedly.

"What are you doing..?"

Jinsang stopped inflicting pain to herself and looked to her right.

"Oh. Junsu-yah. Hey."

"Hey..." Junsu raised an eyebrow. "Why are you still here?"

"Why are you still here?" Jinsang countered, and resumed what she was doing before being interrupted. The other stared at the strange girl for a moment before replying,

"Soccer practice. Coach made us play in the rain."

He held up his heavy duffel bag for Jinsang to see, but she was too busy wallowing in self-pity. Junsu let her go on for about a minute before saying, "Okay. I know something's up. What's wrong?"

Jinsang sighed and rested her now-pink forehead against the wall, replying quietly,

"I tried to talk to Kangin-sshi, but that didn't last long, and I was completely embarrassed. I also don't have an umbrella, I have no way to get home except walking, but I don't want to, and I'm hungry..."

Junsu stifled his laughter, but couldn't suppress the smile creeping onto his face.

"Well," he began, taking out something from his bag, "I have a box of Pepero here that I stole from Changmin. I also have an umbrella."

Feeling a glimmer of joy deep within her heart, Jinsang took the wondeful cardboard box from her best friend's hands and immediately opened it, taking delight in the sweet chocolate-covered biscuit sticks.

"Thank you so much, Junsu-yah," she said through three sticks of Pepero, which made Junsu laugh aloud. And after she swallowed, she couldn't help but laugh with him.

Junsu's laugh was infectuous. In a good way, of course, and that was what Jinsang loved about her best friend. He was always there to make her feel better in the worst of times.

Always.

Opening the umbrella, Junsu smiled and said, "Well, let's go. I'm sure my mom won't mind you coming over. I mean, you practically live there with us."

And with an equally bright smile, Jinsang nodded her head and walked out from under the school roof with Junsu.

When the two reached the crosswalk, they stopped, waiting for the "Walk" signal to flash. Junsu looked down to his right at his hand, and then Jinsang's. On impulse, he gently took hers in his, hoping the other wouldn't react negatively.

But to his relief, she held his hand as well, and went so far as to  intertwine their fingers.

They both smiled.

"One day, Jinsang-ah... One day, I'll be able to tell you how I feel."
