Describe her personality: 

Yeonju is a very free-spirited girl. She often does not let her problems bring her down (or anyone else for that matter) but instead takes them as constructive criticism and uses them to grow stronger. Yeonju, like her name, exuberate independence and sophistication. Growing up, she always faced a lot of bullying because she looked different than they were and she was not “white” and instead, “Asian”. She was often alienated by her school mates and was constantly teased because of it. But that never brought her down and instead, she took her differences with pride and would often hide her emotions with an expressionless look, which often irks her school mates. By doing so, people who do not know Yeonju very well say that she is the epitome of an ice princess – one that could even rival SNSD’s Jessica!

Too many times people mistook her as quiet and hard to approach but she is actually one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Once you get past the image that was stuck onto her, she oozes with love. She loves happy atmospheres and would tend to be the tension-breaker because she simply gets restless and uncomfortable when it’s too quiet. She has the tendency to blurt out ridiculous things when she is too tired and delirious from the lack of sleep (which only happens like every once in a blue moon).

Yeonju is a hardworking girl that does not stop until she is satisfied with her work: she strives for satisfaction and perfection. In short, she is a perfectionist. She works really well under pressure though that can only last for up to two hours; if it over-exceeds two hours, Yeonju would often end up crying in frustration. Yeonju is a wonderful listener and a God-awful advisor! She can never sugarcoat things and would often blurt them out as it is (and this often gets her in trouble too!) She can be seen as off-putting for some people because her jokes are different and her attitude makes her stand out like a sore thumb. But when she is on the stage, Yeonju becomes this mysterious and seductive woman who lures people in to their fandom, with her flittering looks and knee-buckling smile.

Yeonju is the type of girl that really believes in her gut feelings; for example, if she dislikes a person, nothing that person does will ever be right in her eyes. She is as stubborn as a mule and would often get into trouble because of it – if she believes she is right, she will not be afraid to admit it and even when a lot of questions are thrown in her face, she would never falter with her decisions and even put her two cents in it. Due to her upbringing, Yeonju learned to stand on her two feet and to always fight for what you believe in. Hence, she is very passionate about her career.

Family background and history: 

Well, Yeonju was born in San Francisco, California, where nearly all of her family resided in. Initially, her parents thought it would be best if they move to Korea, to let Yeonju grow up in her own culture but that idea was soon shot down when both set of her grandparents did not want to let their first granddaughter out of their sights.

Yeonju grew up, listening and loving the story of how her parents had met and vowed to have a lasting relationship like theirs: her parents had met when both of them attended a Boyz II Men’s concert and after knowing that they were both American born Koreans and avid lovers of music, both of them decided to stay in touch with each other and phone numbers were exchanged. Three months after their first meeting, they walked down the aisle and five years later, Yeonju was born.

Despite being the only child, Yeonju was never alone nor was she lonely. She had loving parents who taught her most of her ‘firsts’ lessons and her grandparents who would often try to spoil her rotten. Ever since she was a little girl, her parents always taught her that things that come easily would always disappear easily and she had to work hard for whatever she wanted – that was a principle that Yeonju sticks with.

 Although her family was not wealthy, their lack of money was overcome by their generous amount of loving. Things went downhill for a few months when her father died in a tragic motorcycle accident the night before Valentine’s Day – at that time; Yeonju was just 9 years old.

It was really hard for the whole family in the very beginning: her mother had resorted to keeping herself locked up in her room, always crying and mourning over her husband. That went on for a few months until her grandmother (her father’s mother!) came to the house and literally smacked some senses back into her mother’s head. After that, her mother began to rebuild herself by reminding herself that her husband was still alive in their hearts and as long as they never forget him, he will never be dead. Hence, to keep his memory alive, her mother puts photos of her late husband around the house. Whenever her father’s death anniversary comes, instead of following her mother to the cemetery, Yeonju would often go outside and say a little prayer before letting a red balloon into ‘heaven’.

Her mother became Yeonju’s biggest pillar of support – always telling her to achieve her dreams, to make both of them proud. In return, Yeonju would always make sure that she never forgets where she came from and who stuck with her from the very beginning. Hence, at the age of 16, Yeonju voiced her dream of wanting to become a performer. Although her mother was reluctant to let her go, she merely sent her off to chase after her dreams with a teary goodbye and an advice: “When you’re told no, you just have to keep going. Even though it requires a lot of hard work and persistence, if you love something and you believe in it, you have got to go for it, no matter what.”

What I mean is your trainee years, how long? 5 years.

How was training? 
The life of a trainee for Yeonju was really hard. When she first came to the company, she had no friends to talk to, what with the fact that her Korean is merely conversational and she cannot really catch up with most of what they are saying and she was in a different country, with no family around her at all. Due to her limited Korean, she would get scolded as well; for example, when her dance instructor tells her to move forward, she would move backwards (she confuses words like those all the time!).

But because of that, Yeonju was always persistent and hard working. If they have to practice for three hours straight, Yeonju would always add two extra hours just to make sure she actually does get it right. She also attends Korean lessons and would often learn two dozen set of Korean words and expressions every day.

The only thing that seemed to satisfy her coaches were the fact that when she is told to hit a note, she would pull it off perfectly. Not only that, she has a keen talent for rapping, though most of the time, she raps in English. She is really relentless when it comes to training – her mother’s words became a motto for her.

Trainee history: 

She was originally a trainee under Brand New Stardom (BNS) that housed Block B. She trained with fellow trainees: Dasom, Kwanghee, Yeonju and Mikyoung, for two years. They were supposed to debut together as a girl group called EvoL but at the last minute, she was crossed off the finalized list. Disheartened by that, she went for another audition, one that was, fortunately for her, being held nearby and she got accepted after her first try. “When one door closes, another one opens,” was what she kept telling herself.

Family members: 

Mother: Mrs Jung / Lee Boram, 48 years old, own a few beauty salons, healthy and still living. Boram is a woman who believes strongly in beauty and outer appearance. She is very opinionated and is not afraid to say what she wants to say and to strive for what she believes in. Ever since her father had died, Yeonju’s relationship with her mother has gotten much closer, up to the point of them almost becoming best friends. If people who do not know Boram is her mother, they would always think that Boram is her best friend, what with all the teasing and their closeness. Boram supports Yeonju in everything that she does and even though, at times she can be overbearing with her constant worrying, Yeonju knows that nothing can come above her mother, not even her career.

Father: Jung Hyun Woo, 36 years old, teacher and deceased. He was a rather cool father – one that does all the lame things other fathers would consider lame. He is the type of person to shrug off what people say and usually throws them back at their faces by proving that he could do it! Before he passed away, Yeonju would always ask for him to read her a bed time story, whenever he was not busy with marking his students’ papers. He adores Yeonju and often would bring her to the CD store or a shop full of instruments. He was the reason why she started playing the piano.

Friends:
Best friend: Dasom, 19 years old, trainee in BNS, very much alive. Dasom is a rather funny girl. When you look at her, she would always have this serious face on but whenever she feels like it, she would always break the tension/silence by cracking jokes and making funny faces. Dasom was the only friend that was willing to befriend Yeonju, mainly because she was learning English as well and the first thing she asked from Yeonju was “Where can I get Stitch merchandise”. That was the start of their ‘beautiful’ relationship.

Best friend: Min, 20 years old, singer in Miss A. Min is a girl that never ceases to amuse everyone with her wonderful personality. She has her time when she can be rather annoying but that is what makes her so endearing to people. Other than that, Min is just your typical girl. Due to the fact that both of them come from the US, they are really close with each other and Yeonju would always go to Min for advice and whenever she needs a person to talk in English with. Together, they would often talk about what they missed back in the US and what they should do in the near future.

Rival: Kang Jiyoung, KARA, 18 years old, a singer in KARA. Jiyoung is a girl that loves doing aegyo and at times, uses that to her advantage, especially to Hara, whom she is really close with. She is also the type of girl that doesn’t care about appearance.

State the reason why: There’s just something Jiyoung that rubs Yeonju the wrong way. Jiyong is childish and carefree and because of the fact that she was the youngest in her family and in KARA, she often acts like a little kid. When Yeonju tried to subtly (God only knows what Yeonju’s definition of subtly is!) tell her to act more mature, Jiyoung got mad and said something mean about Yeonju, thinking that Yeonju would not understand. But when she went back, Yeonju decided to google the word that she used and was surprised at how childish Jiyoung was being and ever since then, her respect for Jiyoung lessened. Yeonju retaliated by indirectly saying something about Jiyoung and that’s how their relationship is right now – always trying to win against each other.

Love interest: Kim Sunggyu, Infinite

Did you already meet? They haven’t met just yet – most probably will meet at a variety show

If yes, then how, when, where? -

Relationship: The both of them are like yin-yang, though they may not be that different from each other, their attitudes compliment their relationship. Yeonju has her time when she gets all flustered with the affections that Sunggyu gives and there are times when she would get all flustered and blush whenever he performs – there’s just something about Sunggyu and a mic that, for the lack of a better phrase, turns her on. The both of them are really close but due to their busy schedules, they would make sure to send each other messages (whenever they are free!) and at least talk to each other once a day, albeit a short phone call.

How will your love story turn out? “Things that come easily disappear easily” – their relationship is at times like a rollercoaster ride – there would always be ups and downs, especially with raging netizens, jealous Inspirits and people in general. But what’s love with a few hardships?

Any scene request? If and when they go on a variety show, Yeonju was asked what type of guys she would go for and she answered it in English, “guys who look like hamsters” thinking that no one would understand but after they had a brief break, Sunggyu was told to go to the girl that is his ‘type’ and do something cute for her, instead of the typical serenading a girl. Being known for how ‘serious’ he is, Sunggyu did Woohyun’s famous bunny-aegyo and heart throwing to Yeonju, which made her blush.

Any past lovers? She used to have a boyfriend, prior to her debut but she broke it off because she could not stand how suffocated she feels whenever he is around. When they were together, it would always seem like she is the one who wears the pants in the relationship and at times, she thinks he is just using her. So when she could not take it anymore, she wrote him a lengthy letter and vowed to never see him again.

Back up love interest: Junsu, JYJ/DBSK.

Describe the back-up's personality: He is normally a very confident guy and the type that never stands still – he doesn’t even walk normally to the toilet and instead prefers to moonwalk to the toilet. He has this tendency to lie on the counter in front of a mirror whenever he feels upset. To describe him in one word would be unpredictable.

Individual Fanclub color: Red (The colour of blood and fire) – because to me, red signifies the symbol of energy, radiating its vitalizing life-force into human beings.

Fanclub color: Green – because it can be seen in evergreens which never change their colour from season to season which highlights the fact that their group is called Eternal. (It sort of also adds up to Never-ends and the infinity sign!)

Fanclub emblem: an Infinity symbol seeing as their group name is Eternal (which is the same as eternity) and infinity is never-ending.

Any nice greetings in mind? I’m not quite sure about the greeting – people always say forever and always, I for one find that quite clichéd now, so whenever someone tells me they love me forever, I would always respond “I love you for always.” So maybe, instead of “Annyeonghaseyo, always and forever, Eternal imnida!” we could with something like “Annyeonghaseyo, even when the time stops, we still go on – we are Eternal imnida”.

Song suggestions: I believe SPICA’s Painkiller showcases strong vocals from all of their members and also their debut song, Russian roulette is another great song that portrays their vocals really well. Ailee’s song, “Heaven” is just heavenly! (Excuse the pun) – She carried so much emotion in that song and it always leave me in awe whenever I hear her perform that song. Baby Soul’s Less Than Strangers would be another good choice as well – it showed how strong her vocals were (Believe me; “Crying” did not do her voice justice! Sneaky, WoollimEnt!) And lastly, 2NE1’s Lonely is a great song as well – catchy tune, beautiful lyrics and an overall wonderful package!
