Read this or not, it's up to you :D

I admit that I wasn’t able to update ALL of my stories mainly because I was busy drowning myself with watching series—anime and drama. Heck, those were my first love even before I got inclined with KPOP and fanfictions. I can usually finish a 20-chaptered Korean series with duration of one hour per chapter in a day so I’m not surprise with my mom scolding me every chance she could get.

But the main reason of this blog post is not focused on me being a couch potato/series addict. Lately, I’m becoming desperate in finding an anime or drama series with a good plot. There were stories that I consider as so-so. These are stories that don’t affect me even a bit; stories that even if you didn’t watch, it won’t be consider as your lost. Series fans like me can live with or without them. A lot of these are sprouting nowadays. There were also stories that I wish I didn’t watch at all for I feel like I’ve only wasted my time. I’m not writing this to criticize or to offend anybody. No. I’m not in the position to do that for I haven’t proven anything yet. I’m just stating what I feel towards something that I love doing— to watch anime and drama.

Now, to stop my blabbering, I will now go to the main point of this blog post which is to share this Korean drama that I’ve just finish days ago. It will be your call if you will watch it or not. I just want to help other fans like me to find a good series to watch. You may be familiar with it already since the last episode was aired last March.

THE MOON THAT EMBRACES THE SUN

Are you familiar with it?

Maybe you are. But if in case you haven’t watched it yet, I suggest you stop reading this post. Doing otherwise might spoil the story.

I just want to include myself to millions of fans that were satisfied with this drama. I can say that this one is a MUST WATCH!

The historical drama “The Moon that Embraces the Sun” tells a love story between King Lee Hwon (Kim Soo-Hyun) and a female shaman named Wol (Han Ga In). She was originally born from a noble family under the name of Heo Yeon Woo and became the crown princess but she was entrapped and faced execution. It is a story of innocent love among young people of different era. Jealousy and political rivalry caused their union to be separated and Hwon believes Yeon Woo to be dead.

The moon and the sun imagery was very prevalent in the drama as the conflict stems from a folklore about  how there were two suns and two moons in the beginning which made the world in chaos. The suns pertain to the two princes and the moons for the princesses.

Though this drama is a historical drama, it is not as dynamic or as complicated as many costume dramas. It contained humor to make up for the sad parts. At first, it gave an impression of a serious storyline but instead I rate it more of a “teen” drama due to its emphasis on romance and immature scenes that didn’t make the drama less likable. In fact, they were best for those moments where you just want to enjoy something.

There are not as many action scenes either which is right in tune with being a teen drama so you can expect less blood scenes. The evil doings was mostly done by words rather than swords.

The younger cast really wowed me with their emotional performances that I started to miss them when the adult actors started to came along. I adored Yeo Jim Goo and Kim Yoo Jung who were playing as the young Lee Hwon and Yeon Woo. They had such chemistry and were so adorable. Also, Lee Min Ho is a really good actor. His scenes with Yeon Woo made me want her to end up with him rather than the crowned prince. :D His love for her hit a soft spot for me. I loved it when he said that he didn’t have any aspirations to be king and didn’t care if all his friends became the king’s men. He just wanted Yeon Woo. He’s so sweet, isn’t he? :D

As for the adult actors, I must say that Kim Soo Hyun blew me away with his acting. All the actors were good but he outshone them all. He was so impressive and as much as I love Jung Il Woo, I fell in love with him a bit more. XD If I remember it right, he also played Song Sam Dong in Dream High but I can say that he was more mature in this series that he became one of my favorite actors.

Personally, I feel that Han Ga In had no expression or what so ever as Wol. Again, I’m not criticizing her. I understand that she is supposed to be silent serious character but I could not feel any emotion even when she found out things that could break a person. Maybe I was able to say that because Soo Hyun was really good and full of emotions and that she was devoured by his acting skills as the King. Nonetheless, she did an okay job given what she had to work with. Most of her performance was about being reflective rather than emotional. And many viewers just tend to notice the person who’s overly emotional so in that aspect, Han Ga In was working with what she got.

I really enjoyed this drama. I can say that if ever you watch this drama, it won’t disappoint you. It’s a lot of fun, entertaining and memorable which will most likely be in your must watch list.

Thank you for reading this post till the end. If not, I still want to thank those who clicked this post. XD If you feel like your time was wasted; I will defend myself and say that I didn’t force you. Kekeke. Peace!  Thank you! :) #TheMoonThatEmbracesTheSun Jjang!
