Don'ts: SHINee Edward Cullen Factor

You thought I was done? No, I’m not. I could point and pick out every little detail that circulates from cliché SHINee story to cliché SHINee story all day.

I’m going to explain the oh-so-nauseating, common plots used in stories with any combinations of these characters, and a new personality for them in the genre we all know: love.

Don’ts: Perfect Boy Personalities

Onew: Always acts like he’s sent down from Heaven by the angels. Has incredibly cheesy, love lines that nauseate many readers to no end. Apparently never makes a mistake, even though he’s a human, just like us all.

Why is Onew usually always the one to be portrayed as Mr. Perfect? I guess he’s an ethereal being or something, because I’ve never seen this guy make a mistake in a love story! I’m constantly coming across sickening, cheesy love lines that he uses to seduce your OC into love. Be clever, folks. They’re used in real life, which makes us females point and laugh and you. Why would here be any different? Because he’s an idol? Consistency, please!

Jonghyun: Another perfect individual. For whatever ing reason, he seems to have the personality of an Edward Cullen in essence. Writers put too much description into his perfect face, puppy eyes, etc. Oh, and you’re not that clever for throwing in the oldest joke in the book: putting down that he looks like a dinosaur.

Why is this man such a perfect individual as well? Have you seen how he acts on some shows?! He’s playful, and he does make mistakes, just like us all. Oh, and, if he actually looked like a dinosaur, I’d be pretty ing scared. I have ALWAYS failed to see the resemblance. Maybe it was a joke or something I missed, because I don’t see how his hair, the walk he walks, etc. make him appear to be a dinosaur! You are not spectacular for throwing in a dinosaur joke to describe his features, quit being lazy!

Key: Has two conflicting personalities: the romantic lover and the secret bad . Always seems to be the one treated like dirt in stories and never stands up for himself when he's around your OC. Apparently, he’s also weak as hell. Incredibly erted once him and your OC pair off and become romantic. Goes from a complete punk to a goody-two-shoes when he falls in love.

The poor man is almost always portrayed as a weak and frail kind of guy who lets the antagonists trash him and walk all over his OC girlfriend. I’d be pretty pissed if the antagonist/Kingka came up to my girlfriend and called her a or stole a kiss from her! Key seems to be the only one who’s not-so-perfect; he makes numerous mistakes in stories that cost him his relationship with your OC.

Minho: Has the same two-sided personalities like Key. Apparently is the only one who knows what love is. Can beat down the antagonist’s if he touches Minho’s girl, and never seems to get caught in the act.

This is basically an add-on to my previous personality for Minho. Once again, why Minho? Why not have Onew beat the out of someone? Oh, and, I always find a point in a cliché story where Minho throws a punch or two at one of the antagonists. Why doesn’t he ever get caught?! I read one story where Minho slugged at another character right in the middle of class! Is the teacher blind?! He also seems to be a victim of explaining the Mary-Sue in the stories; always describing the way she looks, her personality, etc.

Taemin: Another perfect, little teenage boy. A complete pushover. Only knows how to say the word ‘noona’ and act cute; even if someone is being beaten to death, he’ll still randomly blurt out and ask for banana milk, or the like. It’s safe to say he wouldn’t be the one wearing the pants in the relationship.

Just like with Onew and chicken, this ing irritates me as well. Taemin is cute, WE GET IT! But, I can definitely bet your he’s not as innocent as many, many writers make him out to be. If anyone was that innocent in real life, and I knew them, I’d feel sorry for the guy! Why is he also the complete pushover in almost every cliché love story I read? He and Minho should switch their perfect personalities for a day; Taemin would be the secret bad who throws ninja punches and Minho would be the one bragging about his so-called charisma when someone is dying.

Don’ts: Cliché Plot of Dooms

1.] Your OC falls in love with one of the perfect, sparkling, Edward Cullen-like SHINee men. This usually is either Jonghyun or Key. However, Minho and Taemin are pretty common as well. I’m surprised Onew isn’t lonely by now. After falling in love with them, drama ensues; one of the other SHINee members declares his love for her or the two fights over the OC, etc.

2.] Your OC transfers to a new high school in the cliché setting of Seoul, South Korea and the first character she meets is usually Taemin, Minho, or Key.

-If she meets Taemin, the boy comes off as being completely sweet and doesn’t seem to care about others’ feelings, only his aegyo.

-If she meets Minho, the girl describes his aura, (yeah, as if you can see aura, get real) and his secretive personality; she soon runs into him many, many times in which he saves her from being beaten down by the Queenkas.

-If she meets Key, he acts like a total snobbish, cocky, stuck-up jerk that only cares about his reputation and his little circle of friends. He bullies your OC throughout the first fifteen chapters or so, and then he finds himself falling in love with this pushover of a redundant girl.

3.] OC wins a contest or something similar and gets to visit SHINee at their concert or dorm. Your little, prepubescent fourteen year old girl finds herself falling in love with one of the members at first sight, and then is found in a drama-filled love triangle with twenty-one year old Onew and nineteen year old Key (or insert Jonghyun, Minho, or Taemin here). I’m taken aback that these men don’t get caught by the police for kissing your OC out in public!

More things to cross off on many readers’ Do Not Want list. I find these plots and/or personalities in various stories to be oh-so cheesy and nauseating that it actually turns me off majorly. Sometimes, I even get scared away almost instantly when I see the three forbidden words; ‘I love you’, right in the foreword!

If you want your story to be somewhat plausible to the point where we can actually read through a few chapters before being scared off, go read some reviews from other members on here! I can guarantee the reviews will help you in your own writing, even if your story isn’t the one to be reviewed. Just because everyone else is doing plots/using personalities like this, doesn’t mean you have to as well! In fact, I’m sure that many of us on here will thank you to no end if you came up with a new, innovative idea!
