courting?

can anyone tell me what is courting? sorry...i'm kinda new to this words...is it like hitting on the person? i mean like...tackling or something? i was really lost when i read this...

Courting is actually an old term for, well, dating, but the prelude to that. It's like wooing a girl and expressing interest in her. It's a more formal thing where the guy makes his intentions clear and asks the girl out, even asking permission from the parents, impressing the family. really formal stuff like that.

Courting means actually dating... or being boyfriend/girlfriend. Its an old term i dont see often, but yeah. Thats what it means. Hope that clears up the confusion...
