I live in Wonderland

I'm not gonna deny it. Wonder girls rock my world. What sets them apart from other idols for me? These girls were at their peak of their career in 2008, grabbing Daesangs while competing with the KINGS – Big Bang and TVXQ... and then they packed their bags and left all that popularity and went to the States to start from zero. And when I mean zero, I mean they were totally UNKNOWNS. They were not in Japan or China who have at least heard of the word Hallyu. Ok, one may say Boa or Seven did the US too. But did they go as far as introducing themselves and asking fans to take photos with them after a Jonas Brothers concert?  Did they stay on there and persevere for another few years?

Yeah, this is one obvious point that set them apart from other idols. The girls were willing to lose some of that little pride and become that humble person to ask you if you would like a photo with them because you didn’t know who they were then. Some may chide the girls and JYP for the choice of leaving Korea. How could they expect fans to stay and not enjoy others while they were gone?

I’m sure the girls felt sad as well to lose their fans this way. But they went against all odds while missing their domestic fans. And when they did make their comebacks to Korea on short occasions, they let out their tears of joy, endearment and appreciation that Korea still supported them when they were away. Last year, on their full album comeback, winning that weekly music award which they did many times in those music shows years back from 2007 could also move them to tears. They looked like rookies who won their first award. Why? It’s how much they missed that feeling and how touched they are of their fans till this date. No airs and no oh-we-won-another-weekly-award-again scenario. These girls went through lots of hard work and homesickness and when they got home to win their first comeback award, it still meant so much to them. They gained new fans and surprisingly a new breed of haters who probably felt threatened by their successful comeback. Critics had praised the wonder girls for improving so well musically, producing a big part of the Wonder World album that their stay in the US was definitely worth the while. Not only did they grow musically, they grew up as girls matured enough to announce to the whole world it is perfectly normal to fall in love. I bet JY lifted off the dating ban because they did such a great job with the album and now he can easily trust them to date and work well at the same time. They know that the fans are matured enough to accept too. Look at how an angel like Sunye lost both her parents and still showing love to the needy, then finally finding a love she can receive and enjoy from. How can fans not be happy for her?

Also, I think the US journey have taught our girls some heart-warming ways in dealing with their fans. Wonderfuls are thankfully not saseang fans who are obsessed to the point of grabbing one of the girls off-stage or any kind of over-obsessive stalking and violence. I remember the girls visiting some fans who fainted at their Indonesia showcase, comforting and hugging them before they left the concert venue. Fans will idolise them as role models, as someone they can relate to. They just have that human touch.

I could write a whole lot more on how awesome all of these girls are but I’m just gonna cut short and say this to haters.

I can understand if one does not love someone but how can one hate on the wonder girls? That person must be mentally deranged.
