there was like this whole battle on facebook LOL
PEMDAS; parentheses exponents multiplication/division addition/subtraction

but m&d ; a&s are interchangeable and you do it from left to right so yeah?

LOL pointless blog post is pointless

Okay, if you want 288, let's see

48 / 2(9+3) = 288
48 = 288 [2(9+3)]
48 = 288 [24]
48 = 6912
48 is not equal to 6912
therefore, 288 is not the correct answer ^-^

Kiddies, this is how you do the problem.

First, solve the equation inside the parentheses:

(9 + 3) = 12

So we will get: 48 / 2(12) = x

Simplify: 2(12) is also (2)(12) which is equal to 24

Now we get: 48 / 24 = x

x is then equal to 2 ^-^

to check:

48 / 2(9+3) = 2
48 = 2 [2(9+3)]
48 = 2 [2(12)]
48 = 2 [24]
48 = 48

People brackets first! ALWAYS! SO 9+3=12 12x2=24 48/24=2 ;D
