pre-debut | Hanbyul was a cafe waitress during the day, but at night she would perform in underground clubs in Hongdae. She would dance and rap to many of her favorite artist such as Epik High and Clazziqui. One day while she was performing in the largest club in Hongdae called NB, a representative from T.O.P media was among the crowd. After Hanbyul's performance he approached her and offered her a spot as a trainee. Hanbyul happily accepted the offer but it took some time to convince her parents before she officially became a trainee.

As a trainee, Hanbyul did a lot of modeling for High Cut. She helped choreograph the dance to Teen Top's "No More Perfume On You" and "Going Crazy".

background | All her life Hanbyul was surrounded by music. She was born in Busan, South Korea to a mother who plays the violin and a father who plays the piano. Her parents were quite famous. After living in Busan, they decided to move to Los Angeles, California. Hanbyul was only 6 at the time. In Los Angeles, Hanbyul's father decided to take up medical school and became a doctor while her mother began a coffee shop business. They still continued to perform in orchestra concerts.

Hanbyul comes from a well-off family. Since her parents are famous musicians, Hanbyul began learning how to play the piano and violin at a young age. While attending a high school in LA, Hanbyul experienced her boyfriend of 2 years cheating on her with her bestfriend and her "so-called-bestfriend" only befriending her to get closer to Hanbyul's boyfriend. This led to Hanbyul becoming distant and cold to anyone who tries to be friends with her. She wasn't able to trust or love people so easily.

At the age of 16, Hanbyul and her family decided to move back to South Korea in Seoul. Her mother opened up her coffee shop there and her father got a job in Seoul Hospital. Hanbyul had a natural talent for rapping and dancing although her father did not condone of it. He wanted her to follow their footsteps as classical musicians. But he saw how passionate she was, like how she was passionate when playing the piano and violin, so he eventually gave in. Hanbyul began doing underground performances in Hongdae. Although she was young to be doing underground rap and dance battles, people grew to like her. They admired her spirit and hard work. She was discovered during her performances in Hongdae by a T.O.P. Media representative.

Even though she is calm on the outside, she can still explode with anger if you mess with her. Controlling her anger takes a lot of patience. Hanbyul can be a bit stubborn at times. She nags a lot too and always feels the need to curse when something doesn't go her way. She has a dry sense of humor and takes everything seriously. Play a bad joke on her, then you better run for your life. She speaks 3 languages fluently: Sarcasm, Smart-, & Profanity. You better watch your back if you get on her bad side. Don't be fooled and never underestimate her just because of her appearance. Hanbyul is sly and cunning and knows her way around things and will always find a way to get what she wants. With her attitude, she gives off a y atmosphere.

Hanbyul may seem rude and cold at first, but once you get to know her, she will open up to you. Hanbyul only acts that way to isolate herself because she has trust issues. She doesn't like getting attached to people because she is afraid that they will eventually leave her. She might not be the easiest person to get along with. If you can put up with her attitude, then you have gained a very loyal and trustworthy friend. Despite being rude at times, she is very mature and focused when it comes to her profession. Hanbyul always has her ipod with her wherever she goes. She sometimes uses it to drown out the sounds of her surroundings.

Hanbyul is an ambitious and determined dancer and rapper. She loves the exhilaration and adrenaline feel when she performs. She is strong-willed and determined to do her best. Hanbyul is confident and doesn't let anything bring her down. She may seem arrogant and intimidating, but it is only to strike fear into others. She is VERY competitive. Hanbyul won't give a f**k about anything else when she puts her mind to something. Hanbyul will practice day and night to perfect a dance or finish a rap. On stage, Hanbyul is cool, charismatic, and mysterious. Her stage presence should not be overlooked. She is gives off a powerful aura that intimidates others. Whatever Hanbyul does, she does it with skill and precision. Hanbyul is serious and passionate when it comes to rapping and dancing. Hanbyul has a very husky voice which compliments her when she raps. When Hanbyul raps, she raps with confidence and swagger. When Hanbyul dances, she dances with charisma and smoothness. With power and energy, her performance will surely capture your attention. She expects a lot from herself and believes in her abilities to become better at what she does.

Even though Hanbyul may seem a bit harsh she also has her soft side. She goofs are with her close friends and is laid-back and outgoing. Hanbyul likes to have a good time. That's one of her good qualities. When it comes to love, she is a vulnerable, emotional wreck. Hanbyul isn't someone to "fall in love" easily. She doesn't believe in all that "love at first sight" stuff either. She never got into a serious relationship. Hanbyul had some bad experience with love during her high school days. She had a few flings here and there because she didn’t want to get hurt again. Hanbyul went by the saying, “Get close enough to have fun, but don’t get attached enough to get hurt.” Hanbyul may seem confident when it comes to performing or practicing, but she is never confident in herself when it comes to love or gaining friends.

Although Hanbyul beat her in all of those, she still lost her first boyfriend to that . Because of that Hanbyul became cold and distant. Hanbyul hates her. Period.
