Why Hello There AP Euro :P

  1. What are the goals of socialism? How do the ideas of Saint-Simon, Fourier, Blanc, and Proudhon illustrate socialist thought?

The goals of socialism are to further reorganize society to establish cooperation and a new sense of community, and the government planning and organization of the economy. Count Henri de Saint-Simon optimistically proclaimed the tremendous possibilities of industrial development and that the key to progress was proper social organization.
Charles Fourier envisioned a socialist utopia of mathematically precise, self-sufficient communities, each made up of 1620 people. Fourier was also an early proponent of the total emancipation of women. He believed that most marriages were only another kind of ion and called for the abolition of marriage, free unions based only on love, and ual freedom.
In his Organization of Work, Louis Blanc urged workers to agitate for universal voting rights and to take control of the state peacefully. Blanc believed that the state should set up government-backed workshops and factories to guarantee full employment. The right to work had to become as sacred as any other right. In the pamphlet titled What is Property?, Pierre Joseph Proudhon said that property was theft and profit stolen from the worker, who was the source of all wealth. Unlike most socialists, Proudhon feared the power of the state and was often considered an anarchist.
