About Block B's recent controversy
This is my first time using this blog-thingy, but I really needed to get this off my chest.
It seems like a lot of kpop-fans, mainly BBCs and Hottest, are going freaking insane at the moment. Over an issue that happened weeks ago, that has totally exploded all over the web(or at least all over my screen) today for some reason. Well, I guess it’s because of allkpop’s articles(they’re a bit late).
Firstly, I understand that people, especially Thai fans, are upset. What Block B said was insensitive, and it was inappropriate to make a joke in that kind of situation. But anyone who knows them, and have read the accurate translations, know that they meant no harm by it. They troll and joke around a lot, but unluckily that also makes them a bit socially awkward and they might come off as “rude” to some people. Of course it depends on what culture you’re from.
At first, I didn’t react to these “news” much at all, until I read Block B’s individual apologies. And when I did, I almost cried. They’re apologizing for things that are, according to me, completely unrelated to the real problem. The problem was that they acted insensitive about the flood in Thailand, and I totally agree that they should apologize for that, which they also did. But now people are hating on them because of their overall behaviour, the way that they’ve always been acting, and now they’re apologizing for that as well. It really hurts to read this, because their goofy attitude is what I love about them the most. I really hope that they won’t change the way they are after this, only tone it down in some situations, think a bit about what they say and try to adapt more to the countries they’re in.
Secondly, because of 2PM’s twitter-comments on this, Hottest and BBCs are at complete fanwar by now it seems(well, some of them). I find this completely unnecessary, and I think both 2PM and Block B would be disappointed to see their fans bashing other people for a stupid reason like this. It’s okay to discuss it like a civilized person and share your opinions in a calm manner, but I’ve seen people calling each other names, telling people to die and whatnot. Seriously, just cut it out. It’s immature and idiotic to hate someone only for liking a band.
People have also been bringing up Nichkhun’s slightly insensitive comment about the earthquake in Japan, using this as an argument to bash him as well. But his post was misinterpreted, he apologized, people forgave him for that, and they should forgive Block B as well. These are both examples of saying the wrong things in the wrong situations, and neither of them meant to hurt anyone. Ever done that? Yeah, I think you have. And I know I have.
So lastly, everyone who’s not chilling already, please chill. People are all human, even idols. Maybe not B.A.P, since they’re obviously aliens(except Zelo, who’s a robot). Oh, and T.O.P is God, so he’s also an exception. And does Kyung count, since he’s a cucumber?
... I’m getting off-track, aren’t I?
But yeah, most of them are in fact human, believe it or not, so let’s treat them like it and give them a second chance. Because if you’re so narrow-minded that you can’t forgive a person even after they’ve realized their mistakes and apologized, you can’t have a lot of friends. Just sayin’.
