Soohyun: Marriage proposal


“______-ah, let’s go to the beach!”

Soohyun laughed as he took your hand and ran to the beach excitedly. This was the first time you’ve gone anywhere foreign alone with him and you were nervous, mainly because you were wondering about what your boyfriend had in store for your week-long vacation in Jeju Island.

“Oppa, slow down!” You were getting dragged behind in his excitement and you laughed at his childishness.

Soohyun looked back at you and stopped running. He put his hands on your shoulders and looked at you worriedly. “Are you okay? Did I hurt you?”

You shook your head and he smiled. “I’m sorry. I won’t do that again.” Then, for the first time, he noticed that you weren’t wearing a cover-up over your bikini top and shorts. His expression turned into one of frustration. “_____, I thought I told you to not walk around in that?”

You shrugged. “It’s very hot out. Besides,” you pointed at his bare upper body. “You’re not wearing anything either.”

“I’m a man!”

You scoffed and put down the bag you brought on the sand. “Get your shirt and put it on.”

“I will if you do it too.”

You shook your head vehemently. He smirked, picked up the bag and started walking towards the ocean. He kept nagging you about your choice of clothing, often exclaiming that you were ‘for his eyes only’ and that he couldn’t risk anyone looking at you like a piece of meat.

“Come on, oppa. It’s not like there’s anyone here but us.”

True enough, the beach was deserted, but it didn’t spoil its beauty. You spent hours playing in the water and chasing each other. When you got tired, Soohyun led you to a beautiful cove to rest.

Soohyun put the bag down on a log and lay down on the sand, looking up at red sky. The sun was setting and you realized that you’ve been there for at least three hours now.

You lay down beside him and looked up at the same sky, giggling. “Oppa, the sky looks like it’s going to fall on us.”

He sat up and grinned. “I’ll bury you in the sand so you won’t get hit by it when it falls!” He then proceeded to heap handfuls of sand onto your arms and you close your eyes, basking in the warmth.

After what seems like an hour of nothing but the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, you heard Soohyun sing. You couldn’t decipher what the lyrics were, but from the melody you were sure that it was a love song.

Suddenly, you felt a sudden coldness on the ring finger on your left hand. ‘Is this what I think it is?’ you thought incredulously.

You opened your eyes and sat up. You looked to your left and saw Soohyun smiling at you. Raising your left hand slowly, you saw a gold band with a single diamond glinting on your finger.

Soohyun chuckled and took your hand, intertwining it in his. He brushed his thumb against your knuckles gently. “I’ve been thinking about things, and… it came to me that I just had to make you mine… forever.” He looked up at you with a shy smile on his face and you bit your lip.

“Will you marry me?”

The words rang out clearly, bouncing off the rocks and registering in your brain. You opened your mouth to answer, but instead you wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him deeply.

He pushed you down on the sand gently without pulling away. After a while, your lips felt rubbed raw and you turned your head to the side, your breathing uneven.

Soohyun, who was still on top of you supporting his weight with his elbows, whispered, “So, is that a yes?”
